  1. Ron S's Basie set arrived at my workplace today. Sorry Ron, they shipped me the whole set. B-) It's number 449.

    Spyro Gyra

I was a young college student when Spyro Gyra was playing the Buffalo bars and hitting te big time with Shaker Song and Morning Dance. So I was around 20 and was a big fusionhead at the time. I thought SG were fabulous. The more jazz listening I did though, the more I reallized that while they're good at what they do, they are certainly not mainstream jazz. Instrumental pop? Smooth? who cares I guess. It's all part of learning what you like, don't like, tolerate. It's no longer my kind of thing, but for those to whom it is - go for it.

Chris Botti, huh? Any port in a storm.......
  4. All's well that ends well - I bagged a real copy of Paris a short while ago. Patience pays off.
  5. LOVE the set, by the way.
  6. I just picked this up about a month ago. It was actually on back order for a while but they finally shipped it. My booklet is not numbered.
  7. I'll make sure I send you a photocopy...... OF THE ONE THEY'RE SEND ME!
  8. Got the same email. Looking forward to hearing it.
  9. Order placed. There's a Joe Lovano w Hank Jones disc coming out the same day. Grabbed that too. B-)
  10. I'm pre-ordering these! I'm a big fan of Green's second Blue Note stint. Lots of fun, groovin' stuff. The versions of Maiden Voyage and Fancy Free *are* killer.
  11. I really don't know how to categorize Pullen/Adams. I usually go with one of two categories - I like it or I don't. I really don't like to get too much into categorizing styles or influences and like to take the music at face value. All I can say of what I've heard of the Pullen/Adams Select (only had it for a couple of days) is that it is terrific. I find it , in a word - joyous
  12. I'm having a particularly rough time the past few days. Those of you who remember my very personal post earlier this year probably can figure out why. Did you ever just throw on a disc for the sole purpose of distracting you from what you're thinking about or just to have something in the background so you don't have to think about what you don't want to think about? I threw on the Don Pullen Mosaic a little while ago. I was really only half listening and trying to keep myself busy when the song Sun Watchers caught my ear. Speaking of ears, the melody line just brought an ear to ear grin and a temporary distraction from a really rough time. I only wish that George Adams and Don Pullen were around to thank. Made my day.
  13. Based on Kevin's suggestion, I emailed them a request to switch to the $4.99 plan. I received notice today that I had been switched and that they would refund the difference from my first order. When I went to the site just now, I got the $5.99 homepage. When I logged in.....Voila - $4.99 Thanks for the suggestion Kevin.
  14. ?????? = drugs? I think they helped Bush "succeed"
  15. What about Three Dog Night?
  16. Exactly. Isn't that what they say about the Pat Metheny Group? Not a dig, BTW. I'm a huge Metheny fan.
  17. I guess I must add that I was a fan of the band back in the day as well. I actually went to see DCT and Bllod Sweat and Tears on one of their early reunion tours. It could have been in the late 80s or early 90s. Not bad, actually and kind of fun - you know, one of those memory lane things.
  18. BS&T has been playing the oldies circuit for years with David Clayton THomas fronting whever they can scrounge up. I guess 35 years of "Spinning Wheel", "Lucretia McEvil", and "Go Down Gamblin'" finally got to him. Judging from his version of "Don't Explain" on his website, he might be singin And When I Die again and sooner than he thinks. Actually this past August - BS&T drew over 12,000 people to a free concert at Artpark in Lewiston NY (at the mouth of the Niagara River). Artpark is one of those summery concert venues with the covered seats and lawn seating in the back that are all over the place. They had this free Tuesdays at Artpark thing going and I guess 12,000 plus people didn't have anything better to do that night.
  19. Well, I joined up New Year's Eve on the $5.99 plan. In my opinion, a good deal, but hey a buck's a buck and they all add up. At any rate, first shipment arrived yesterday 7 Steps to Heaven Live at the Blackhawk (4CD set) Complete Jack Johnson A Capitol comp entitled Torch Songs (2 CDs) all for around $115 tax incl.
  20. You're welcome B-)
