  1. For anyone who has never been to one of the Grand Evenement at the Montreal Jazz Festival, they are a really something special. It's a sea of people and one of the most exciting things you can witness. This year they had two - one midstream as always and then the big Metheny show. Needless to say, Montreal loves Metheny. Yet another reason I love Montreal.

    Charlie Hunter

One of the live shows of Hunter's that I saw was in a duo setting. Different drummer - can't recall who. Adam somethingorother. Great show.

Purists, shmurists! Big Hunter fan I've got all his BN stuff plus on TJ Kirk. Still have to pick up the Ropeadopes. I've seen him live a couple of times - puts on a great show.
  4. I'm guessing that you're referring to Norah Jones........right? Are you saying that Norah Jones is NOT Shankar's daughter? Because I thought I had heard or read somewhere that she was. Or maybe just that they're somehow related....something like that anyway......I'm not sure.
  5. Timmons on the way. NExt up - Rosenwinkel's Deep Song Hope some of the recent BN/Capitol release are available soon.
  6. Chris Botti
  7. Thanks to yourmusic.com, I just picked up RARE EARTH - Millenium Collection. Have to admit, I'm hooked!
  8. Hey, there's always Water! I thought I would hate Soul of the Bible too - almost did not buy it. For whatever reason, I really dig it. VERY late 60ish.
  9. Reiner How 'bout starting to lobby MC for Adderley's Soul Zodiac. I have the French release of Soul of the Bible and dig the hell out of it.
  10. I'll consider these if they hit yourmusic.com
  11. I love the Mobley set. Grab it!
  12. I'm not sure of all the sets they've released since the selects started but I'm very satisfied with many of the recent sets - Basie, Eldridge, Mulligan, Farlow, Jazztet, Columbia Small Group to name my favorites of the recent releases. This Rich set though has me decidedly underwhelmed. I'm just not a huge fan of those drum solos - at least in the stuff by him that I've heard. I'll pick this one up for sure, but I won't preorder like I did the Basie. I think I'll wait around to see if any of the European releases of the set show up at Caiman or CD Universe mis-prices the set and I get it for $19.98 or something.
  13. Checked my email - got the shipping notice. Excellent timing. They'll get here before I leave for Montreal - which means I'll be able to give them a good listen on my drive there.
  14. At a club called the Tralf (formerly the Tralfamadore Cafe - a Buffalo institution for some time) Looking forward to it. Those of you familiar with the demise of my marriage, some good news - I'm taking a female companion.
  15. Pre ordered both. I REALLY liked the the cuts from the Richards.
  16. And who's that guy in the lower left corner of the Getz/Raney set. If it's not Raney.........
  17. I just took a peek at my Desmond/Hall set
  18. Elvin Jones - discs 1-4, random play
  19. I think that at their discretion, Mosiac has negotiated the right to continue to sell some sets after the time component of the original lease agreement expires. The Woody Shaw comes to mind. I'm thinking JJ Johnson as well. I don't know about the Hans Mobley ( ) set, but my suspicion would be that this is one set that Mosaic would negotiate to go into "ovetime"
  20. Byrd/Adams. But tm's mentioning of the Elvin set could lead to a switch soon as I'm on the second go-'round of the B/A set.
  21. I've had the Byrd-Adams set for a long time now. In fact, I am listening to it now. I love these last minute last chance buying sprees - they often guide me to sets I have not listened to in a while. Always wondered why only Byrd was on the cover myself.
  22. Erik Truffaz - Walk of the Giant Turtle
