  2. You're right - contemporary/precursor of the Group of Seven. Seeing his work - and the Group of Seven - in real life is amazing. Beautiful work. I've spent a lot of time in the areas from which these guys drew their inspiration so their work really hits home. I'll be visiting Ottawa in about 3 weeks and am looking forward to checking out the National Gallery of Canada's Thomson and Group of Seven stuff
  3. So was this guy member number 600?
  4. Ever hear of the Ramen Noodle Soup diet? B) You can get 6 packages for a buck round these parts. That's lunch and dinner for a week for a little over 2 bucks. Drink lots of water. What do you pay for lunch every day - about 5 bucks? Dinner - another 5 bucks? That's 10 bucks a day x7 days a week = $70. Subtract the 2 bucks for the Ramen Noodle Soup and that leaves $68 - and your Mitchell set. The more you eat, the more you save You can definitely have your cake (or Ramen Noodle Soup) and eat it too! No pain, no gain There is no try, only do.
  5. I think it's closer to Chief Cook and Bottle Washer.
  6. I have discovered that there is an evil cartoon character named "MoJo JoJo" on a cartoon show called the Powerpuff Girls. Perhaps this is the MoJo to whom you refer.

  12. The list posted by Big Wheel on the linked thread is the official list of WCCs. Jazz Guitar, New Wine, A Gasser and a few others in the other list in htat thread were not part of the WCC series. Here's the Quote
  13. I guess I should have read the posts just before mine as they are about the same auction. Oops. At any rate, Marie did in fact respond to my email: In a message dated 1/24/2004 7:49:35 AM Pacific Standard Time, **************.com writes: Is this auction for disc 7 only or for the whole set? I believe by reading your description it is for disc 7 only. But the fact that you have displayed the cover of the Mosaic box and quoted a review of the entire set makes me think that the bidders on this auction might think it is the entire box. I can't believe that anyone would pay $43 (the current high bid) for disc 7 alone, especially since the set is still in print and available complete from Mosaic. If this is a misinterpretation of the bidders, I urge you to clear up this issue or cancel the auction as the bidders, in my opinion, will be getting ripped off. If I have misinterpreted your description and the auction id for the entire set with box and booklet, you have my apologies. Thanks Ed Swinnich yes, we cancelled the auction. It is only one disc. Marie
  14. Well, maybe I did my good deed for the day. I know that intervening in ebay auctions can be a sensitive issue among some who do sell on ebay, but I contacted the seller and let him/her know that I thought their description was misleading and that I thought that it should either be clarified or the auction should be ended. Looks like they chose to end the auction early.
  15. With 7 hours to go, this auction for what appears to be disc 7 only from the Bunny Berigan set is at $43. Click Here If you ask me, the description is not clear enough, especially with a photo of the Mosaic Box and a review of the entire set. Somebody's going to be very disappointed.
  16. Who the frig is Takashi???? Thank you
  17. Michael McDonald I saw that MCI commercial and got hooked. I know - what a sucker. Anyways, I picked up his Motown album based on that and really dig it. Fabulous version of Too High. I found a few of his other more recent releases very cheap on half.com - some pretty decent tunes on those too.
  18. With a 1957 birthdate, I was a Captain Kangaroo devotee have lots of fond memories of the show. Reading the article brought a smile to my face. Thanks for posting that.
  19. Look carefully. It's not MoJo, it NoJo. It's a cutesy, happening, hip nickname for Norah Jones fashioned from the first two letters from NOrah and the first two letters from JOnes. If you missed the MoJo vs Nojo thing you might have missed that there is some sort of rumor floating around that Norah Jones is really Ravi Shankar's daughter. Really!!!!
  20. It says somewhere in the article that "NoJo" is the daughter of Ravi Shankar. Is this true? Can someone confirm this?
  21. NoJo ???? B)

    Charlie Hunter

Check out this thread Charlie Hunter Thread Seems like the parting was a mutual thing.
  23. I've got all three as well and enjoy them all to varying degrees. I have no problem at all with them being Blue Note artists because I buy into the fact that they help the label retain jazz artists. I like seeing that Lundvall is aware of the need to draw lines in the acts he signs. So far, for me, the lines he has drawn are satisfactory. I'd like to actually see some jazz albums aside from reissues be released by Blue Note. It seems that the Green, Morrison and now Jones - along with Madlib - have been getting most of the press at the BN site these days. I know they were quite busy in the summer and fall of 2003 with jazz releases, but it seems to be a little slow right now. I'd also like to see them add to their roster of jazz artists if that's possible. I know they picked up Blanchard - whom I really like - and Marsalis. But it seems that with the likes of Shim, Javon Jackson, Brian Blade, Charlie Hunter etc now gone - they could use some fresh young talent to add to the mix. No more jam bands please.
  24. I think our dear friend music boy has some comments that might be applicable to your post in this thread, Jim. Comments from the music boy Is that guy for real?
  25. Okay. I confess. It was me. I saw those reviews over there - all 5 stars without ever having heard the disc - and thought how utterly ridiculous it was. So I decided to write a review that was so over the top ridiculous that anyone from Blue Note who read it would understand how silly it is to allow reviews before the music is released and either delet it or all of them - provided of course that they had at least one ounce of integrity Interestingly, or maybe not, I signed it Ravi from Myanmar. After a couple of days, they deleted the name Ravi. Maybe it was a bad joke, maybe not. At any rate, judging from all your responses I think I succeeded in writing the most utterley ridiculous review ever. I'm not sure if I should be proud or embarrassed by that.
