  1. Ed, I don’t doubt that you’re disturbed by today’s events. It’s raised a few questions in my mind as well. But digging up the past cuts both ways, even if it’s in an effort to clarify... I’d rather leave the past just there; in the past. Seems to me that B3-er has a mighty reasonable attitude toward this whole mess. P.S. Mr. Sngry is there some deeper machinations that I’m not aware of? It seems that xricci and his partner are funding AAJ out of their own pocket. xricci is trying to sign sponsors to help fund the expansion of AAJ’s features, but selling posters and what not seems innocuous at best. Am I missing something? I know what you mean shawn. I'd rather leave the past alone as well. But the "AAJ is run by an Asshole" threads dredge it up fully out of context. If that "twerp" comment of Ricci was going to be taken up as some sort of battle cry by some, then I believe it is appropriate to also go into the past to supply some context to be placed around it. To not dredge up the past in this case would leave it to it appear as if Ricci was taking shots at Organissimo boardmembers for no good reason. I'm not sticking up for Ricci here but as I said before, bad will between boards does no one good. Actually, even though Dan was pretty brutal with Ricci in the since deleted thread, as Board operator and chief moderator, it was inappropriate for him to call anyone a twerp. But he's a human being with emotions and reacted. Is he a piece of shit? I don't think so.
  2. That strikes me as a questionable policy, to say the least, but in fairness it doesn't equal Technically, you are correct that the phrasing is not the same. However, in essence and in practicality, Ricci has banned references to other boards. He closed today's thread, edited and/or deleted posts therein. How is a poster to know if/when his reference to another board will be subjected to editing or deletion by Ricci? The result is a chilling effect that has posters avoiding references to other boards be they notices about technical problems or "I saw a post at Organissimo or JC" type posts. Personally, I don't like to having my thoughts and posts manipulated in that way.
  3. This might cause more problems than its worth, but there is more...... A while back, Dan posted a thread at AAJ asking for suggestions for questions for an interview he was doing. I think Ricci mentioned that he'd ask a few people to post some ideas. A couple of those people did. After a few days to a week passed, Ricci posted something questioning why Dan did not come back and do any follow up or thank the posters or something like that. After some back and forth, I think, Dan posted what can best be described as "the mother of all F-YOU posts" using what seemed to me to be an endless litany of insults and obscenities ending with an I'll never post at your site again pronouncement. I thought it was more than a bit over the top but as you said Dan is Dan. That thread has since been deleted, fortunately or unfortunately. Sometime afterwards, Ricci made his twerp comment and the rest is history. I'm pretty sure this is a reasonable synopsis, or at least I hope it is. If it were me, I'd let it drop and delete the posts. This who's gonna get the last word in thing really serves no purpose except to exacerbate this latest sore point between the two boards. But it's not me, it's Dan so ultimately the decision is his. Of course Ricci will delete them when he sees them anyway/
  4. I'm with Chuck in my disagreement with Dan's posts. I know there are some hard feelings between the two of them (Ricci and Dan) based on some posts made in some sort of interview suggestion thread. Actually Dan, if all Ricci called you was a twerp after your obscenity laden insulting response to him in the interview thread then I'd just leave it at that. I hope you reconsider and delete those threads as they really serve no purpose other than to throw gasoline on the fire.
  5. I'm not familiar with Farmer's UA stuff aside from Modern Art and don't know how much there is. But when Mosaic introduced the Select series, they did state that these sets would be 2 or 3 disc sets. So far, they've obviously stuck with the 3 disc releases - but you never know.
  6. If you were looking for the "Slapped by Beavertails" thread, I don't think one's been started yet. Feel free.
  7. See, now that's where you'd be wrong..... B)
  8. To jest aw stit (Phonetically spelled Polish. My parents used to say it to me - then head for the piddah. Pronounced taw yest ov stit )
  9. I'm posting from the US, so I got the point now, but I'll take a pint when I get home from work tonight B)
  10. pepe - you forgot one of these:
  11. I don't know if/why Mike has not posted here in a while, but I miss reading his posts as well. He was a valuable contributor here and before here, at Blue Note. I hope it was not Deep who drove him away. I remember when Deep first came over here after being kicked out of AAJ, and he started off in somewhat typical fashion. He had multiple threads going - one in particular about some gay pride parade that was particularly offensive. I'd also seen him in action at JC and prior to that at JCS. The guy has a potential to be a boardwrecker. At about the same time you were able to confine hime to his padded room, I know I jumped to the conclusion that he 'd do the same here. After all, in his Wingy persona he did post in all forums albeit in a somewhat toned down fashion. That he has kept to his one thread to this point is somewhat of a miracle given his history. Having his drunken, raving mad, homophobic, racist, obscenity laden mental meanderings in one thread has worked to convince me to continue posting. I was used to ignoring Greg and politics on the BNBB and can do the same here with Deep. But I can tell you that as far as Bev Stapleton is concerned, I don't think his departure is silly at all. We all bring different sensitivities and sensibilities to the table here. Some have been able to co-exist with Deep on the boards for a long time. Some, like me, find it convenient to ignore him so long as he his confined to his private little zoo. I know Bev posted over on JOL before it went down and Deep had his dog and pony show running there, so Bev had previous exposure to his persona. Kevin B, who is somewhat embattled here right now and in the midst of one of the biggest misunderstandings I've ever witnessed on a jazz board often expressed about politics on these boards that seeing how guys stand politically and sometimes religiously is more than he really wanted to know when it came to reason we are here - to discuss jazz. I know exactly what he means and I fully understand how seeing so many long standing posters provided a hero's welcome and give tacit approval to Deep's posts, posting style, and content by the way they engage him would upset Bev more than actually having him here. Bev is a very thoughtful poster who added a lot of inciteful conversation to the board. I particularly enjoyed his posts on European jazz. Gave me lots of exposure to styles I enjoy and artists with whom I am unfamiliar. I know Deep has a load of knowledge of jazz that most of us could only hope to have. I personally would not care less if he was uttering the secret of eternal life if he was spewing it out of his festering gob. (I know, eternal life is a bit of a stretch - I suppose I'd put on my hip boots and poncho ) You had a decision to make and knew it had consequences. Losing some posters was one of them. You made the decision, you lost a(some) posters. Personally, I'd rather have one Bev Stapleton than 100 Deeps on my board, but it is not my board, nor my call. It would be nice if these things never had to occur. We go through life enjoying the good and dealing with the bad. But I guess you have to factor in that places like this are seen as oases for many - myself included. You know, a place to escape, talk about your favorite subject(s). The consequences of having a bigotted, loud mouthed, semi psychotic jackass excreting his waste in some corner of the board are unfortunate, disappointing and disheartening but, at least in my opinion, not something to be dismissed as silly But then again, I love hockey in spite of the fights. My advice - stand upwind.
  12. I'll say. It had been listed only a couple of hours. I read the description, jumped on it and half way through the process started thinking that it was to good to be true. But I did not dare stop because I figured that if someone else saw it it would be gone. After I bought it I went back to re-read what I had bought and still could not believe my good luck. I don't know if you check ebay much, but the same guy listed a whole bunch of boxes and/or booklets without discs and vice versa stating that someone had stolen either the discs or in the case of the item I bought, the box and booklet. Bummer.
  13. Didn't have time to read the whole thread but I'll go with harpsichord. I think I like most other instruments that I've heard in a jazz context.
  14. I'm going for the Roach soon too. Even thought they say it was a one time thing, I'm leery after what happened to the Stuff set - and I know the Roach has been around for a while. I want to avoid another "Oops, didn't we tell you your license is up" when they try to re-press.
  15. Except for the Stuff Smith
  16. She doesn't suspect a thing. I'm thinking some sort of car repair for next week. Something simple like an alternator belt.........
  17. Oh, and by the way, I don't make housecalls
  18. That dryer was nuthin' You would not believe what went wrong yesterday. My wife pages me at work and describes the scene something like this - " A pipe above the hot water tank busted . There's water everywhere. I don't know how to stop it." Of course I talked her through how to turn off the main water supply. When I headed home, I discovered that the plastic tube that taps into one of my water lines and feeds the humidifier had cracked. I guess it was old age. I got a new water line and it took about 5 minutes to repair. The way she described it, I thought I'd be at it all night. A significant portion of my recently remodeled basement was flooded as a result. Spent most of the evening with a rented wet vac. Boy did that suck. Anyways, I figure a plumber would have charged - what - about $50-75 just to walk in the door. and another $20 buck for the part that cost me about $5 and another hour labor (that's the minimum don't you know) at another $75 and hour and I saved myself in the neighborhood of $150. Maybe I'll grab the Bunny Berigan set this time around.
  19. Something is clearly wrong here. I have not yet received my free Mosaic. You did remember to over-night it right?
  20. So Greg had a melt-down because SACD did not blow away the competition. Now that's funny. I wonder if Achtung Dr Feud Calling make rounds at the Asylum.
  21. What , no Kruschev? Where is Kruschev? Happy Birthday Tod
  22. Perhaps you might know her by her new hip, happening nickname - "NoJo"
  23. Fanboyism?? Listen dude - many of us who hung at the BNBB have and had musical interests beyond Blue Note records. It was the Blue Note board, so yes the majority of discussion was about Blue Note artists. But there was plenty of talk about other stuff as well. Many have used the Blue Note based discussions and the knowledge base of the various posters to expand their listening beyong Blue Note - but you have to start somewhere, and Blue Note is not a bad place to start. Many also hung there for the internet socialization - because there were a lot of decent folks who posted there and now here. What I personally don't need is some condescending, arrogant, pompous a-hole judging discussions of people's personal tastes, musical leanings, like and dislikes, attempts at gaining knowledge and the subject of their conversation and labelling them "fanboyism" You're obviously experienced enough to know a lot about and enjoy various types of jazz. To bad you're not smart enough to know that you have no business judging people because of what they like or dislike. Many have or already had expanded their listening beyond BN. Some will stick with the 50's/60's BN recordings as the focus their listening. What the hell business is it of yours?
