  1. No need for one - I have all of the individual CDs
  2. No problem PD. Your first post and the later one were certainly of no offense to me. By the way, I never heard the Concert Jazz Band and had no Roy Eldridge in my collection before I picked up these to recent sets.
  3. Does the Patriot Act figure in here somehow? Better go back and read the finer print.
  4. Nothing specific - just the link and a thanks for the interest and recommendation.
  5. I have to say that Happy Together off the Wilson record is worth the price of the CD by itself. Very nice - groovy, swingin'
  6. Anyone who's been here or on Blue Note in the past knows I'm a big Mosaic fan. I've bought many Mosaic sets without ever having heard the artist. Ellington Capitol, Django, Bix, Mildred Bailey, Venuti/Lang, Ventura/Phillips, Jacquet, Teagarden, Johnny Smith, Maynard Ferguson, Woody Herman, Gerald Wilson, Teddy Wilson to name a few. Why? Because Mosaic established a track record of credibility with me when I first began purchasing their sets in 1998. I like their product and in one swoop, I can pick up a chunk of an artist to whom I had no prior exposure. I know that the artists they pick for sets are significant and that the music therein is of high quality, significance and/or interesting. I also know my buying habits and realize that if I like one release by an artists I'll go nuts and pick up as much as I can - if they are available. I also know that I'm likely to get a full return on my investment if it happens I don't like the set. Numbers? Who cares. The only reason I pay any attention to the numbers is to gauge how Mosaic is doing insofar as sales go. I'd like them to stay in business a long long time. I guess I've just got a box set mentality. When I decided to take the plunge into Billie Holiday, I grabbed the Columbia set. Like it so much I picked up the Decca and Verve. Lester Young? I finally got around to grabbing the Young Verve set. I recently picked up the Parker Verve and Savoy/Dial sets. Anyone have a Clifford Brown Emarcy they want to unload? ....or know where to get one cheap?
  7. I emailed them about an hour and 1/2 ago with a compliment on their Blue Note releases, my hopes that they will continue to mine the EMI vaults for material and my suggestion that they look at Nat Adderley's Soul Zodiac as a possibility. Got a response just now with a link to their updated website: Water Records by Runt Distribution
  8. I passed on the Pearson as I have the Mosaic Select, but I just received the Reuben Wilson. Very nicely done from a packaging and sound standpoint. I'm diggin' the music as well. Very much in the Rare Groove mode of the late 60s, early 70s Blue Notes that many of us are familiar with (and some, myself included, actually dig B) ) Wonder if with the two recent Water licensing agreements and the fact that there was no Rare Groove release this year, BN is throwing in the towel on their own Rare Groove series. Hope these sell well enough for Water to continue to lease from BN.
  9. I'm currently battling some infestation by a program called allaboutsearching.com. My 9 year old has been playing around with the comp lately and this bugger's arrival is coincident with that increase in activity. I've tried Ad Aware, Spybot and Hijack This. It keeps coming back - changes my homepage, adds an unwanted tool bar and a gazillion pop-ups. Totally annoying. Totally sucks. These spyware guys should be shot.
  10. Sorry, but her singing makes my ears hurt.
  11. Consider me a weirdo too (meaning that I enjoy Herman's vocals as well )
  12. I think the Mulligan numbers must include the sets that have been distrubuted at retail in Europe. I think the Wilson set has been around 3 or more years. Numbers in the 2900 range are indeed very good.
  13. Teddy Wilson now Running Low
  14. Gone Teddy Wilson hits the list.
  15. Columbia Jazz Piano Moods disc 4
  16. That's funny, because earlier when I read Leeway's question about who gets set number 1, the first name that popped into my head was Tod.
  17. Marty Fogel - Many Bobbing Heads, at Last...
  18. Thanks for the nice thoughts. Took my oldest son to his hockey game this AM. Yes, in WNY we still have hockey leagues at this time of year Spent the rest of the day at the local 6 Flags Amusement Park. Had a great time.
  19. ebabies ????
  20. It's late, hot, and muggy and I'm sitting out on the deck listening to Gerry Mulligan Quartet and Tentette with Chet Baker Disc 3 Nice stuff
  21. I'll sell you mine for $500 and throw in free shipping for Father's Day
  22. The Django Mosaic is one of my very favorite Mosaic sets. The sound is outstanding and the music even better, IMHO. I purchased this set about a year after it came out. At the time, and I hate to admit it, but I had never heard ANY Django. Of course I'd heard of him and as a jazz guitar fan, I decided to trust Mosaic's reputation and go for it. Over the years I've owned it, I've probably returned to this set more than any other Mosaic I have. It's a joy from start to finish. Like you, I was a fan of hardbop and more modern stuff. The Django set was my first plunge into pre-war jazz and it inspired me to pick up more - like the Bailey, Lang/Venuti. Bix/Trumbauer/Teagarden. Great great stuff - all of it. Go for it!
  23. Well the offer is up on the Mosaic site. For orders outside the US, they're deducting 50% of the shipping cost, BTW. I'm certainly no spokesman for Mosaic, but I'm guessing that at $39 for a Select, absorbing the $5 and change or whatever they charge for shipping eats up too much of the profit. I wonder though, if someone who wanted to buy 2 or more Selects might not be able to call Mosaic and ask if they'd extend the offer for multiple Selects. No harm in asking I suppose.
