  1. I hope it's both
  2. Well, I made my pick for August 3-9th - I think. It was tougher than I thought it would be. My initial reaction was to pick Matthew Shipp's Equilibrium. I picked this up recently have have been really digging it. But I eliminated it from consideration because I don't think that too many posters have or are inclined to pick it up - especially since it's probably not available everywhere or as a midline price. My next choice was Gil Melle's 50's set from the BN 10" Conn series. Eliminated for similar reasons. I don't think a lot of posters have it, based on the many posts I see for people looking for it - and I know it's a bear to find. My 3rd choice was Chick Corea's Return To Forever. I listened to it several times and while I thought it might be a good choice once again availability and price point steared me in another direction. Which led me to my choice. Stan Getz - Getz/Gilberto. I guessed that this is one that most posters will have or can get their hands on quickly. I'm particularly interested in it - and bossa nova in general for a number of reasons which can be discussed during the week of the 3rd. At any rate, what do you all think? Anyone want to twist my arm to use one of my other choices? Also, I had thought of doing a co-album of the week and throwing Getz' Jazz Samba in the mix. Any takers? I'll post my "official" pick in a day or two. Also - Do I get to pick the next AOW selector?
  3. You know, I have not really participated in the AOW threads - so I'm not sure what the protocol is here. Do I just pick anything that I think is worthy and that several people will have? If you don't have it, do you head out and pick up a copy?
  4. I'm not much of a upgrader at all. If I've got a title as an earlier domestic BN or on a Mosaic, I usually don't re-buy. I think I've maybe picked up 4 or 5 duplicates over the years - Unity, because I wanted the full album on one disc, Idle Moments, Maiden Voyage and Go - which I eventually turned into a clock, by the way. Heck I've still got my old screwed up version of Cool Blues. I'm as happy as the next guy when something I don't have comes out in great sound. But the sound on the old stuff generally doesn't bother me or sound bad enough to want to replace it. I'd rather spend my money on stuff I don't have. I'm actually in a bit of a quandry as to what to do over the upcoming Conn release. I've already got Fuschia Swing Song and Mother Ship on Mosaics but I've also got every Conn released thus far. What to do............

I'm probably going to take a pass on the whole bunch. I've got them all in the "crappy older versions" that somehow sound okay to me. Sometimes I'm awfully glad to have lo-fi equipment and ears.
  6. I'll be picking up the Rollins and Blakey titles as I don't have either of them yet. I'm generally not an "upgrader" - too much other stuff to pick up.
  7. BTW - Anyone have an official count for the Hamilton?
  8. Sign me up for Nat Adderley's The Soul Zodiac. I have been diggin the Soul of the Bible a whole lot since it came out a few months ago. Since it is the followup - and considered to be weaker - than The Soul Zodiac, I just have to hear this one. Hopefully someday........
  9. I was going to go the CD Baby route but was wondering if you guys make out better if I bag it through Ebay. Let me know - I've got an itchy trigger finger tonight.
  10. I thought I'd start looking around for a copy of the Ellington Centennial Set. Anyone have an idea what a fair price on the used/ebay market is these days? I've been checking out the Ellington stuff on Ebay and I frequently see a 40 CD set that goes for something like $80 or so. What's the story on this set? Seems too good to be true. Would anyone recommend the 40 CD set over the Centennial set?
  11. Well, I pulled the trigger. Bagged the Johnny Smith Mosaic set along with the AEC and Big Band Jazz, The Jubilee Sessions sets from True Blue. Hope there's enough AEC Boxes to go around!
  12. There are a couple of copies of the Anderza available on half.com right now.
  13. Have you ever checked out the Jazzmatazz website that's run by one of our boardmembers? There's lots of good info about jazz releases - upcoming, new and recent - as well as reviews and more. Here's the link: Jazzmatazz
  14. Serge Chaloff does a great version of Body and Soul as well. I've got the Mosaic, so I'm not sure what album it's from, but it's among the best I've ever heard.
  15. The Bix/Trum/Tea set has arrived - number 1821 of 7500.
  16. I think I'm going to make deepdiscountcds my homepage
  17. Dexter's Body and Soul from the '67 Black Lion Montmarte material
  18. Congratulations Tony You're in for some of the best years of your life. My 2 sons, now 6 and 8, have enriched my life in more ways than I thought possible. They really help put things into perspective as well. All the best....
  19. Holy smokes - I just got an email that the Bix/Trum/Tea set I ordered shipped today. I'm a little shocked that I'm getting it but I'll take it. I personally think the whole thing was a mistake made by Deepdiscount CDs - especially if the above mentioned link with Collectors Choice is true. CC is one of the few places that sells a broad selection of Mosaic sets - meaning over and above those which Mosaic has made available to all retailers. My guess is they did some data base update and some of the CC Music stuff made it over to Deepdiscount. Wish I ordered a few more.
  20. I've really neglected Brubeck. This seems like a nice opportunity to jump in and check him out.
  21. I'm not holding my breath as far as a response goes. I've never gotten one in the past, but hey - you never know. I'll post if I get a response.
  22. Email sent to Blue Note: I see you have included a link to a couple of jazz boards now that the Blue Note Board is closed. There's a great jazz board at organissimo.org that is very active. There lots of discussion of Blue Note and Mosaic releases and Blue Note Artists. It is, in fact, where most of the more active participants of the now defunct Blue Note Board discuss jazz. Please consider adding a link to this board in your current board message. It's organissimo.org. Thanks Ed Swinnich
  23. Enjoy - and please post your comments. Andrew Hill is making an appearance in Buffalo this fall. I'll be going for sure and would appreciate your opinion on the show.
