You'd like the sets on "The Capitol Albums" which came out a few years ago then. Those would have been perfect for a USA'er who was around back in the day (like me) if they had added appropriate bonus cuts (or at least restored the "Introducing The Beatles" cuts which were strangely excised for "The Early Beatles" -which includes "There's a Place", my all-time favorite Beatles song). I agree on the complaints about the revisionism. Beatlemania for America was "Meet The Beatles", "Introducing The Beatles", "The Beatles Second Album", the UA "A Hard Days Night" soundtrack, "Something New", "Beatles '65" and "Beatles VI", not those strange British titles!

I recommend the Corea/Burton for those who enjoy them playing together. One CD is duo, one is with orchestra, both are lovely. And wonderful price!

'A Caddy for Daddy'. Musically, it's a good, solid mid-60's Blue Note session, well worth having but not something that stands head and shoulders above the rest of their/his catalog from that period. There was a certain calculatedness that began to run into some of those Blue Note sessions after the success of "The Sidewinder", and if I remember well, it shows some here, but certainly there's nothing to dislike about the session, and it's well worth having, as is most every Blue Note from that era. But it's no replacement for 'No Room For Squares' or 'Soul Station'.

I got it in a trade with Gokhan, and like it quite a bit, which hasn't often been the case for me with Carter discs in recent years. His best since the initial flurry of DIW's, maybe his best period.

To me, it's the weakest set McLean did in his entire run at Blue Note. Shockingly conservative and not too inspired to my ears. But almost all things Blue Note seem to eventually come back around.

$114.88! No way I'm doing anything like that. Oh for the days of yourmusic carrying these boxes! Would have been $41.94 with free shipping there.

Wow, released less than two years ago and already out of print. I'm in the same boat, kept waiting for a better price, but if it's gone, I'll just have to live without it. The collector in me (I have all the other Miles boxes in the series) wants it a lot more than the listener in me does. Guess the listener (and the wallet) are going to win for a change.

Silver nuggets, no real gold. The '66 Left Bank sessions are excellent, but have so-so sound. The 70's sessions are much more conservative than what he had been doing in the 60's, fitting very much the Americans in Europe format with the usual Drew/Stief/Riel rhythm section, strings of long solos, lots of standards, etc. The session with Bartz and New York Calling are exceptions, but still relatively "safe" compared to the Blue Notes. That being said, all the SteepleChase's are certainly worth owning. 'Antiquity', a duet with Michael Carvin, is a different beast altogether, and one I haven't heard in over 30 years, so I can't really evaluate it, but I don't remember it being "gold".

The 'High Frequency' quartet date with Larry Willis, Don Moore, and Jack DeJohnette. This was out as part of the Jacknife 2LP set in the 70's, but has never made CD apart from the Mosaic to my knowledge. Not utterly essential the way the Tolliver Jacknife session is, but to my ears far superior to (though admittedly very different from) 'New and Old Gospel' and 'Bout Soul'.

Allen, for a single CD/DVD, it's actually cheaper to ship it first class.

Mine too, though five of the six sessions are now available elsewhere. But when it came out, it was like a dream come true.

I've always been surprised that more of the complete Woodstock sets weren't released. Seems like they would have been good sellers in years past, moreso than they will be at this late date. All we've really had was Hendrix's set, which was pretty awful in pure musical terms.

The Santana Woodstock performance, complete except for "Evil Ways", was on the Legacy Edition of their first album. Unless you're an utter completist (which I'm not unsympathetic to in the case of Woodstock Santana), the Legacy Edition is the better bet as it contains nine other bonus cuts in addition to the Woodstock cuts. I believe some of the Jefferson Airplane Woodstock cuts were on the Jefferson Airplane Loves You box set from many years ago, but looking at the new Woodstock Experience CD listing, their set was 14 songs, so that one is a must buy for me, as are the Joplin, Johnny Winter, and Sly. The most annoying thing about these releases is that they drop the bonus cuts which have been on previous later CD releases of the studio albums, so you can't just replace the older CD's without losing valuable music. In the case of the Johnny Winter, Janis Joplin, and Sly, that's only a few minutes of material, but in the case of the Santana and Jefferson Airplane, that's a good bit of really interesting stuff. Also, I have the Sly and Joplin albums as parts of box sets by those artists, and won't break up the box set. But the good thing here, in addition to these Woodstock performances seeing the light of day, is that the list price for the two CD sets is only $19.98 (available for $14.99 at Amazon - or you can pre-order the whole 10-CD box for $67.99), so overall, while I would have done it a little differently, I'm really glad to see this.

I'd even be willing to spring for the cost of a can of Rustoleum if they did reissue it in the rust box. Feel free to make me an offer on mine - nice music but I HATE the packaging! I'd rather just gather/wait on the individual session issues.
