Probably less open to 'sonic explorations' than I used to be, and of course there are better and worse in this realm too. Have always thought it was a intrinsically live music experience hard to capture effectively on the recording medium of your choice...i am still planning to give the recording in Q another shot later. Don't need Wynton to show me anything.

I think the alternate of Brother Soul was on one of those various artists Rare Groove things but there's an unissued tune from that session, Red Top IIRC. Generally more interested in new tunes than alternate takes, all things being equal which of course they never are (my intro to econ prof was found of saying that in Latin). An alternate Jubilee Shout would be interseting if different enuff - say keeping the vamp all the way through the solos, or a different vamp....

Need recs on Pentangle/Fairport Convention

It was indeed "A Sailor's Life" that I was thinking of, from this more modest boxset http://www.amazon.com/A-Boxful-Treasures-Sandy-Denny/dp/B0004O5STA/ref=pd_sim_sbs_15_4?ie=UTF8&dpID=61E7S42LF9L&dpSrc=sims&preST=_AC_UL160_SR160%2C160_&refRID=0DRF2JZWCRWH5HKEDF1Z and Weather Report was more a qualitative reference than a stylistic one and I think we have different understandings of 'funk', to me anything that smells of real life is funky. But thanks to you and uncle Bob! -

That's the thing about library records, sooner or later you have to give them back - it was a few cuts past FC's version of "If You've Got to Go' (In French!) on that box, I'll have to see if I can figure out the name! -

Are there any box bargains currently available?

Has anyone here got this yet, and if so how are the rarities? -
Yeah, I have a tape of him sitting in with Stanley T. in the Twin Cities, so I do remember before the shit hit the fan, too bad we're still trying to get all that off of us now.

Yeah, maybe it's just not the right day for it for me - I'll give it another listen later.

So I went to Youtube and listen to some of the album in question. Made me thing 'Lester Bowie Plays Wynton Marsalis', only that would've been more fun. Interestingly, NO comments to any of the videos from the album that I looked at. I found the other work of Wooley's embedded in this thread even less interesting, oh well. On the other hand the Sil Austin/Red Prysock is rockin' my world as we speak. As does the Bradford/Carter, in a different way.

I really don't hear any of that, YMMV obviously.

John Patton's Blue John has 5 previously unissued bonus tracks, new tunes not alternates, decidedly less greasy than what was originally included There's at least 2 albums by the Three Sounds with a bunch of bonus tracks, again new tunes but I don't have those Lou D's Here 'Tis has one bonus untitled blues, again don't have it (yet) I'm pretty sure there's more, would love to see some of this, and other previously unissued BN out domestically at more reasonable prices.

I can't believe I actually posted that...and in further Oscar Peterson reaching out from beyond the grave news: In addition, Bösendorfer will release a limited-run Oscar Peterson Signature Edition Piano equipped with Yamaha Disklavier E3 technology. Note-for-note, the instrument faithfully reproduces 13 Peterson piano performances originally captured during the ’70s using the Pianocorder Recording System from Superscope/Marantz. With the touch of a button, the piano’s keys and pedals come alive, moving up and down to recreate Peterson’s performances of “Tenderly,” “Take The ‘A’ Train,” “Lush Life,” “Back Home Again In Indiana,” “Who Can I Turn To,” “Falling In Love With Love,” “Body And Soul,” “Blues Of The Prairies,” “Honeysuckle Rose,” “Misty,” “A Time For Love,” “Old Folks” and “Someone To Watch Over Me.” Only 12 of the reproducing pianos will be available for sale worldwide through official Bösendorfer dealers (at a list price of $189,999). The Oscar Peterson Signature Edition Piano will make its North American debut on Dec. 11 prior to the “Oscar @ 90” concert at Koerner Hall, where it will be on display in the lobby. The instrument’s U.S. release will take place during the NAMM Show in Anaheim, California, in late January.

Weather Report: The Legendary Unreleased Live 1978-1981

"OK, just pulled the plug" I think you mean 'pulled the trigger' (an unfortunate metaphor); pulled the plug means to get rid of or cancel something, pulled the trigger means to go ahead and do it. sorry to be pedantic. -

This Derek Bailey album has been in my music room player for months now so that when I'm done with whatever else I'm listening to this automatically comes up next as a braceing palette cleanser. Kinda reminds my of John Fahey's the New Possibility that way, anyone else hear it this way?

Someone should put this Henderson on an album cover, v. art deco IMHO.
