  1. Sounds intriguing, look forward to hearing it. Thanks for the heads up.
  2. I took the $ my mum sent me and a coupon down to Music Millennium and bought myself the 5 Royales Soul & Swagger (5CD box 'n book), only to find out there's the more completer Definitive on 3 dbl CD sets, but I think I'm good.
  3. Word. (did I do that right?)
  4. The PBB's "Work Song" was on my Blindfold Test #?, but I guess there's no reason not to bring it back...
  5. That looks like as much fun as Joe's records sound like!
  6. I've got the first two discs on a previous issue, interested in how good/different the last disc is...
  7. Reminds me that I bought another one with that personnel and haven't listened to it yet...
  8. Glad to see JD at the top of your list, I've been generally surprised and disappointed by how little love it's gotten in the year end lists. Albums I enjoyed but haven't gotten around to buying yet - Willie & the Wheel and Derek Bailey's Ballads.
  9. If they'd been up and running, say, a year ago then maybe this could work, as it is the're chasing the trend...
  10. JD Allen, Graffiti, sax record of the century thus far, IMHO, YMMV, etc.
  11. Afro Blue was recorded (magnificantly) by Coltrane and Tyner and, I think, several others.
  12. The whole first side (on LP) of Dearly Beloved has a lovely flow to it, just Stan and Shirley and a drummer.
  13. In '96 the Willamette was so high the falls in Oregon City nearly disappeared!
  14. Grant Green Albert Ayler any old school clarinet player and Ike Q
  15. Understatement of the year right there, where you here in '96?
  16. I haven't seen any discussion of this year's season here. I took advantage of my trip to Buffalo this fall to see the Habs crush the Sabres. As I think you know, I'm a big fan of the Canadiens who had a great start and are still doing well despite Price's injuries - it might actually be good for them to have to get used to not leaning so heavily on their goalie to save games for them. What say you, eh? Also, no play by play in the arena at the Sabres game, is that standard now? All they announced was goals and penalties.
  17. Probably less open to 'sonic explorations' than I used to be, and of course there are better and worse in this realm too. Have always thought it was a intrinsically live music experience hard to capture effectively on the recording medium of your choice...i am still planning to give the recording in Q another shot later. Don't need Wynton to show me anything.
  18. I think the alternate of Brother Soul was on one of those various artists Rare Groove things but there's an unissued tune from that session, Red Top IIRC. Generally more interested in new tunes than alternate takes, all things being equal which of course they never are (my intro to econ prof was found of saying that in Latin). An alternate Jubilee Shout would be interseting if different enuff - say keeping the vamp all the way through the solos, or a different vamp....
  19. It was indeed "A Sailor's Life" that I was thinking of, from this more modest boxset http://www.amazon.com/A-Boxful-Treasures-Sandy-Denny/dp/B0004O5STA/ref=pd_sim_sbs_15_4?ie=UTF8&dpID=61E7S42LF9L&dpSrc=sims&preST=_AC_UL160_SR160%2C160_&refRID=0DRF2JZWCRWH5HKEDF1Z and Weather Report was more a qualitative reference than a stylistic one and I think we have different understandings of 'funk', to me anything that smells of real life is funky. But thanks to you and uncle Bob!
  20. Chrome on a Dell.
  21. I'm on a laptop, and I'm NOT Back Home Again in Indiana.
  22. Literally, at first I thought it was just me...
  23. That's the thing about library records, sooner or later you have to give them back - it was a few cuts past FC's version of "If You've Got to Go' (In French!) on that box, I'll have to see if I can figure out the name!
