  1. The hmv website has the Bill Evans Turn out the stars box as a 6cd rather than 10cd set.
  2. It is available on ebay here (3 copies left - 12 have already gone).
  3. Older than 50 years ??????????????? More than 50 years old then - I think that it was clear enough what I meant. Unless I have misunderstood your ???????????????
  4. That gets back to my question then - is it more ethical to link to a bootleg cd where the artists are not being paid royalties but someone is profiting (and these cds are often not budget priced) than to link to somewhere where you can download same recording for free. Note that I don't think that either is ethical particularly but I have some trouble with the logic.
  5. I can fully understand the Board's position and I think that it is the right one from the point of view of protecting the Board from any legal ramifications but am I the only one that thinks it is perverse that it is ok for people to know where to buy bootlegs from people who are profiting from them (presumably with no recompense to the musicians (do the composers get royalties?)) but it isnt ok to know where you can download them without people in Andorra profiting from essentially ripping cds? Again I'm not questioning the position but I'm a bit uncomfortable. It is a bit like the UK jazz magazines that review the Gambit, Lone Hill cds etc (without mentioning that there may be legitimate versions available - one review I read recently even highlighted that the bootleg was the better bet as it was cheaper than the legit version!) but wouldn't dream of providing details of where you could download the same recordings for free. Another thought, which I'm sure has been covered elsewhere but is it illegal to download albums older than 50 years in Europe?
  6. I was in the Oxford Circus branch on Friday and they do have quite a lot of the Blue Note RVGs for £4.
  7. Don't even think of blaming Cuscuna or Blue Note for this. They went back to "LP order" after a few people complained about the shuffled order of the CDs. I think it was stupid and so does Michael, but Blue Note capitulated to a few vocal complainers. It was a small number of complaints, but it was enough that they listened. There's a thread around here somewhere where we debated it. A few of the more vocal complainers contributed their thoughts to that thread. I think that the issue here wasn't so much the order of the tracks so much as the fact that they excluded tracks that had been released when there was plenty of room on the RVGs to include them. I think that there is some logic to retaining the original LP orderings (after all a concious decision was made at the time to release them in this form) but not to exclude related tracks where they have been released before. Not that I think any of us are really in a position to "blame" Cuscuna for anything.
  8. P.S. I think that they include free shipping even outside of the UK and the cds that I've ordered from them have all been copy-control free.
  9. Play.com also have a sale on, which I think is larger. Their "Monster sale" ends tonight I think but I don't know if this is considered a "monster" sale, although it certainly made a big enough hole in my wallet, boom, boom.
  10. Thanks for the responses guys - would be interested to hear the experiences of others too.
  11. Has anyone actually got a disc 6 that isn't defective? I recently ordered one of the boxes released in the UK and it seems to have the distortion described at the revenant website. It's possible that I'm hearing something different to the fault described but that seems unlikely. I've tried emailing both Revenant and ESP but to no avail. Thanks Denis Anyone? How about those who have bought it recently? Thanks Denis

  13. Unless I'm missing something HMV isn't gone yet - we seem to be taking a rumour as gospel. Although I don't know how they can continue as a music retailer with the prices that they charge, even in the post-Christmas "sales". I was in on Saturday to spend some vouchers that I'd been given for Christmas and their jazz sales seems to consist of Kind of Blue.
  14. Updated to remove Boogaloo - managed to get it reasonably on amazon. Still looking for the others though...
  15. Thought people might be interested in: Patterns Total Eclipse I have no connection with the seller but have just received another cd from them and am very happy with the service and the cd. Denis
  16. I didn't mean to suggest that you were suggesting that (I felt that you were just giving me a heads-up as it were. I was trying to highlight the issues with trying to guess how much things are worth based on amazon marketplace prices.
  17. I was under the impression that it had also been released in the US but perhaps not. It is difficult to judge prices based on the amazon market place prices as it isn't always clear that anyone has actually paid those prices. I don't think that there is the equivalent of the completed items search on ebay. For example I was recently looking for this Steve Lacy cd and you can get it new from Silkheart for 10 pounds!! Of course the cds I've listed above are OOP so I'd expect to pay a bit of a premium. I just don't think that anyone will pay $150 for a copy of Natural Essence that has scratches on the disc! Denis
  18. Not perfect, but a darn good price for a date that's kinda hard to find these days... half.com Edit: Not what you were looking for, but FWIW, I just found an extra copy of Patton's "Accent on the Blues" in my pile of duplicates. (The other half of the 'bonus' date from "Memphis to New York Spirit" is on "Accent on the Blues".) Thanks for the link but half.com won't ship outside of the US (I'm bsed in London). I recently acquired Accent on the Blues (on this board in fact) and enjoyed it a lot so am very keen to hear Memphis to New York Spirit too.
  19. I'm looking for the following cds in excellent condition or better. If anyone has any they'd like to sell (or knows where I might be able to get them) then please let me know. John Patton - Boogaloo John Patton - Memphis to New York Spirit Tyrone Washington - Natural Essence Hank Mobley - Slice of the Top Soul: Otis Clay - Complete Hi recordings Dan Penn - Nobody's Fool Temptations - Solid Rock Temptations - Live at the Copa (not the twofer) Edwin Starr - Soul Master/25 Miles Joe Tex - Hold on to What You've Got/The New Boss Joe Tex - The Love You Save/I've Got to Do a Little Bit Better Thanks for looking. Denis Updated to remove Boogaloo
  20. Jazzmatazz was listing a complete issue of the 69 Antibes Miles shows by Sony back in 2006 but it sadly hasn't materialised. Miles Davis - Juan Le Pins Sessions (Columbia) - 2 CDs – 2005 — July 1969 concerts with Shorter, Corea, Holland, and DeJohnette. The second concert is unissued.
  21. The 'Undisputed Truth' version of that one is damn good. The version that he produced for David Ruffin on Me 'n Rock 'n Roll Are Here To Stay is also fantastic, although very different to the other two versions. RIP.
  22. I've been meaning to do something about some of the duplicate cds that I have for some time and have finally been prompted into action by a thread in the Miscellaneous Music forum. All cds will be in excellent or near-mint condition unless otherwise stated. JJ Johnson - The Eminent, Vol 2 (Blue Note RVG) Bobby Hutcherson - Dialogue (Blue Note RVG) - sealed Blue Mitchell - Blue Soul (OJC Riverside) - sealed Thelonious Monk - Monk's Music (Riverside K2) - sealed (ON HOLD) Thelonious Monk - Brilliant Corners (Riverside K2) - sealed (ON HOLD) Max Roach - Quartet featuring Hank Mobley (OJC Debut) - sealed Max Roach - Deeds, Not Words (OJC - European digipack) (ON HOLD) Clifford Brown - Big Band in Paris (OJC Prestige) Bill Evans - Paris Concert, Edition Two (Warner digipack) Miles Davis - Milestones (Jazz Door) - Two cd set containing live concerts from New York (Coleman at Philharmonic), Berlin (Shorter) & Tokyo (Rivers), all 1964. Nothing that isn't on the official Columbia releases. Link Miles Davis - It's About That Time (Jazz Door) - Concert from 1969 (Shorter, Corea, Holland, DeJohnette) in Juans-les-Pins (although the cd says that it is from Montreux). This is the same concert as the Japanese release from CBS. Link to Jazz Door. Link to CBS Duke Ellington - Complete Prestige Carnegie Hall 1943-44 concerts (Definitive) - 3cd set Duke Ellington - Complete Prestige Carnegie Hall 1946-47 concerts (Definitive) - 3cd set Duke Ellington - Complete Original American Decca Recordings (Definitive) - 3 cd set Al Green - Listen - The Rarities (Hi) - Lots of surface scratches Archie Shepp - I Know About The Life (Hatology) - sealed Sun Ra Arkestra - Sunrise in Different Dimensions (Hatology) - sealed (ON HOLD) Franz Koglmann/Lee Konitz - We Though About Duke (Hatology) -sealed Steve Lacy - Clinkers (Hatology) - sealed Cecil Taylor - The Great Paris Concert (Black Lion) (ON HOLD) Miles Davis - Complete Prestige Recordings (Prestige 8cd box set). This is the smaller "cube" box rather than the 12x12 set. Slipcover is very slightly worn. (SOLD) Dvd box sets - all Region 1 Deadwood - Series 1 (slipcase) - sealed Seinfeld - Seasons 1&2 Seinfeld - Season 3 Seinfeld - Season 3 (sealed but carboard box is damaged) Curb Your Enthusiasm - Season 5 (scratches on one of the discs) Am happy to answer any questions that you might have on any of the above. There are various cds that I'm interested in and I'd be interested in many Blue Note cds (too many to list, although there are a lot of Jimmy Smith and Horace Silver RVGs that I'd be interested). The cds would need to be in excellent condition or better. Cds that I am actively looking for include: Temptationts - Solid Rock Hank Mobley - Slice of the Top Tyrone Washington - Natural Essence Bobby Hutcherson - Four Seasons Bobby Hutcherson - Mirage Cecil Taylor - Live at the Black Forest Cecil Taylor - Algonquin Cecil Taylor - Winged Serpent Cecil Taylor - Taylor/Dixon/Oxley Cecil Taylor - The Owner of the River Bank Cecil Taylor / Mary Lou Williams - Embraced Wynton Kelly - It's All Right Blue Note Various - Deep Blue, United States of Mind Blue Note Various - Blue Juice Vol 2 Otis Clay - Complete Hi Recordings Dann Penn - Nobody's Fool Any of the Herbie Nichols covers albums (other than the two Roswell Rudd unreleased) Eddie Henderson - Sunburst I'd also be interested in taking a flier on some obscure soutern soul if anyone has any to get rid of. I'll also mention on the off chance that I'm interested in the two Rhino Soul boxes (Beg, Scream & Shout and 70s Soul Experience). Am also happy to discuss straight sales if there is anything people would like in particular. I live in London which presumably would increase shipping costs for most people. Thanks for looking. Denis
