A perfectly sensible approach! Where was the Brubeck duet released (not saying it hasn't been - just curious)?

Downbeat is spoken for. -
Hi all I'm moving back to London from Chicago at the end of the month, slightly earlier than expected as my office is closing. I have ongoing subscriptions to Jazz Times and Downbeat that have another couple of months to go and it isn't worth having them redirected abroad. So if anyone wants them (at no cost) then just PM me with your address and I will arrange to have them delivered to you instead. To spread the wealth I'd prefer to offer one publication to two people rather than both to the same person. First come first served (in your PM let me know which you'd prefer). Thanks Denis

I had my order cancelled by amazon so I'm guessing it has been cancelled.

For those in Chicago, Joe McPhee is playing a live solo concert at Corbett vs. Dempsey on Wednesday (6 June) at 7pm.

If you aren't in a great rush to get it, my brother-in-law is over from Manchester for a week at the start of June so you could have it delivered to me and I could send it over with him. PM me if you're interested. Denis

Are there any box bargains currently available?
djcavanagh replied to GA Russell's topic in Mosaic and other box sets...
Thanks. FWIW, J&R currently has free shipping on $25+ and a bunch of RVGs @ $5.99. J&R was my jazz hang back in the day. At one time (definitely not anymore), they had the best selection and prices in NYC. Who has a better selection and prices now? I can see that J&R may not be what it was but I can't think of anywhere that beats it on those two criteria. Am planning another trip soon so am hopeful that there is somewhere I'm just not aware of. -
The Times (of London) now has a paywall (and I don't believe that they allow you to access any articles).

I'm a print subscriber and got an email yesterday saying that I could provide one non-subscriber with twelve weeks free access to their site. If anyone is interested then pm me and I can provide the access code. Denis

Hi This might be a bit of a long shot but I wondered if anyone might have a copy of the Miles Davis poster from 1971 by Gunther Kieser. I think that there are a couple of versions of this and my preference is for the first one (mainly on the grounds that it is smaller) but would be happy to get either of them andmy wife isn't very keen on a large Miles Davis poster (for reasons that escape me). Jazztage poster I have a cheap knock-off of the first one but am eager to get an original. I missed out on one that sold for $390 last year (I didn't realize it was being auctioned until after the fact) and I'm happy to negotiate on price. Thanks in advance Denis

Hi I'm looking for a couple of cds and thought I'd try my luck here: Peter Brotzmann - Live Berlin 1971(FMP 034/35)- this is available as a lossless download from Destination Out for $18. I'm coming to terms with downloads but would still prefer to have the cd. I'd be willing to pay $40 for a near mint copy. Thelonious Monk - Stockholm- 2cd set - I'd be willing to pay $40 for a near mint copy. In addition, I'm also looking for a couple of soul cds: Edwin Starr - Soul Master / 25 Miles(UK Motown two-fer) James & Bobby Purify - Shake A Tail Feather (Sundazed) I'd be happy to pay $30 for each of these in near mint condition or better. Thanks Denis Sorry - should have added that shipping would be on top of that. I can have things shipped to the US or UK.

Huge avant jazz dump at Reckless Records

Thanks for the tip, also. I rushed over to the Broadway store as fast as I could and picked up loads. For the most part these were in pretty mint condition so you can probably buy online with confidence if that is holding you back. Denis -
Isn't it just a rip-off of the Mosaic set with some extras thrown in? In terms of the music I've always enjoyed the Candid sessions but these are still available from Candid.

I agree re: the downloads but am not so concerned on the liners (a pdf would work for me). I'm not on Facebook either but emailed stating my preference and received a "Thank You" from Sue within a couple of minutes!

This actually seems to be their regular price for this so it is still available at $44.99 with free worldwide shipping. I believe that the code FACEBOOK10 gets an extra 10% off.

Never mind, this seems to be it: http://philologyjazz.wordpress.com/

Can anyone point me to their homepage. I couldn't find it in a brief search. Thanks Denis

The other Savoy cd that had both the Monk and Nichols sessions is this one: I don't think that the first cd linked to here contains all of the tracks (not sure about the two that Lon linked to but suspect it might be true there too). My cds are in London (I'm in Chicago) so I can only go by what is on my ipod and I have five tracks (I seem to recall a couple of alternates and Discogs seems to back this up) and Good Story Blues doesn't seem to be on the Modern Jazz Piano cd. Also from memory there is another Savoy cd with a different cover. I'm a big Herbie Nichols fan and there obviously isn't much out there but to my mind this is the least essential of his recordings that I've heard (the vocals don't do too much for me). That said, I hope you track it down. Denis

Very sad news. I saw him in London a few years ago and his enthusiasm is infectious. He certainly seemed to have led a very fulfilling life. The Brownie picture is fantastic.

[FA] eBay "RARE" Japanese CDs

I'm in the same boat so I use auctionsniper.com. It works so well that I use it even for auctions where I would be available to make a bid as it removes the risk of an internet connection failure. It isn't too expensive either.
