Thanks all for your input. It was a great concert. Ornette´s blowing was powerful, with his particular phrasing and his incisive tone. Ballads, blues, latin rhythms, some classics ("Lonely Woman", "Turnaround"...) and some "outter" stuff. Denardo Coleman´s unsubtle drumming was the worst part of the concert (happily, the volume was quite reduced for the drums!). Not just a piece of nostalgia. A REALLY GOOD performance (imho)

Wise advice from Paul. It has also happened to me: in fact I am now trying to avoid "collecting" (except for a few musicians, Ellington and Montoliu among them) and trying to focuse on "listening". Successfully, I hope.

Actually, and I know it's hard for someone unaccustomed to early recordings to hear this at first, but the ODJB Victor recordings are very well recorded given the technology of the time. Just compare them with any Paramount recording from six or seven years later...

Can anyone shed any light on this? I too was mystified, and we can't rely on ABC/ESPN to get to the bottom of anything. I wasn't impressed with Ruud's replacement. Van Basten said he didn't like Van Nistelrooij's performances in the group games. According to Van Basten his positioning left a lot to be desired, and his finishing was quite poor; he said that there was "not enough football" in Van Nistelrooij's game. Now look at that Kuyt he put instead! (as we say here, "he wouldn´t score a goal to a rainbow")
