  1. Yet amazon.co.uk has insanely cheap overseas shipping prices. The Gould Bach box and the Boulez boxes were only a couple of pounds for shipping.
  2. True. But I had purchased the Oistrakh for under 10 pounds at amazon Uk and have no need to buy blue rays, what with streaming being a good alternative. I've had not happy experiences with amazon it ever since they jacked their rates up for US customers.
  3. After years of using Grados, I decided to change. Going too cheap wasn't going to make my ears happy, but I was not willing to spend over $100 for a pair either. I have a long commute to and from work, so comfort was equally important. Settled on the Creative Aurvana Live! headphones for about $52. They are great; I can play them at a low volume and still get all the clarity and spatial depth that I hear on my regular stereo system.
  4. Thank you! My best birthday gift came six months ago, when my son Leo was born.
  5. vienna box comes to $90 with shipping, which is exorbitant for mailing. $20 more in the U.S., which will drop. I can wait.
  6. Hop on this, Shostakovich fans: http://www.amazon.fr/gp/product/B001GZ011Q/ref=as_li_tl?ie=UTF8&camp=1642&creative=19458&creativeASIN=B001GZ011Q&linkCode=as2&tag=bpclass-21&linkId=YTLESOSYRAL6EJHE
  7. Some EMI box sets on sale. http://www.amazon.co.uk/David-Oistrakh-Complete-EMI-Recordings/dp/B001ASVXSE/ref=sr_1_1?s=music&ie=UTF8&qid=1434715727&sr=1-1&keywords=emi+box+set http://www.amazon.co.uk/Messiaen-100th-Anniversary-Box-Set/dp/B001DCQJUO/ref=sr_1_2?s=music&ie=UTF8&qid=1434715727&sr=1-2&keywords=emi+box+set
  8. It's a loving tribute to Stanley Turrentine but I found it to be a bit bland. But I have been listening to a lot of hard and heavy stuff lately.
  9. Boulez box now $98 shipped from Amazon UK.
  10. Happy Birthday bertrand!
  11. Happy Birthday Scott!!
  12. He has had an excellent career, especially leading the Seattle Orchestra. I enjoy his Schuman symphonies on Naxos (previously on Delos?), and works by many other American composers.
  13. Amirov's Arabian Nights. Colorful, wild late Romantic orchestrations. Should fulfill everything on your needs list.
  14. Your comments were cryptic to say the least. Who's Dookie? Denardo? For the record, I placed an order with DMG for the CD but never got it, so I guess I'm on the moral high ground by default. Never like Antibalas anyway, thought it was borderline-minstrelsy for (mostly) honkies to play Fela-inspired Afrobeat, not matter their "right-on" politics. It is, but they are fun to listen to. Liked the fusion of latin and afrobeat.
  15. I've been more than happy with this set:
  16. It's either this or these guys build weapons. I'd rather have them waste their energies on expensive turntables.
  17. Upton Sinclair's The Jungle.
  18. Aren't the Stoki recordings in another box?
  19. May 21!!! Smithsonian!!!!!! I'm there!!!!!!!!!
  20. Wizards. Paul Pierce with a great game winning shot. They are proving themselves, especially when their star is hurt.
  21. Wow. I'll have to look for this.
