Picked it up last week, and listened to is a couple of times. Overall I think this is the best of the Blue Note releases -- there are some stunning tracks that fit well with his classic 70's material. There are a couple of tracks, however, that suffer from too much over polished sound and annoying neo soul vocals (not Al's) and some bad lyrics. They don't detract from a very fine album.

Will WKRP have the original music as aired? That's the real question.

Yeah, if you're paying $18 - $30 for a repressing or an 180g "audiophile" pressing, and it's warped or crackling I'd be angry. As for the quality of sound for vinyl, it is still hit or miss. Even back in the day there were major labels spitting out quality music but the sound was mediocre. For instance, I was just listening to a Pharoah Sanders Impulse! lp from the 70's - 1st pressing - and it sounded hollow. The japanese cd import was a marked improvement.

Dischord Records is apparently now doing the vinyl only route for new releases. If you buy the vinyl, you get a free download of the album on mp3. While the vinyl resurgence is nice, what about the quality of the pressings? Wasn't there a recent thread that discussed how bad audiophile pressings were getting? Are the non audiophile indy record people doing a better job?

Mine always was getting the damn cds out of the slipcase. That box is tight!!!! So is the music.

The Odean Pope, Byard Lancaster, Kahil El Zabar, Frank Lowe and Billy Bang CIMPS are very nice sessions.

I have a few CIMPS. Overall I think they sound fine, but yes, I agree, they are not the high quality audiophile sound that they toot on about.
