  1. Bought a lot from the Concord sale last year. Went ape shit over the stuff from Amazon resellers this summer.
  2. Happy birthday Lon!
  3. OK then, I'll cross those out!
  4. I'm looking for the following Milestone lps: I don't believe these have been reissued on cd. PM me for possible trade? Martial Solal - Solal; On Home Ground Tommy Vig Sounds of the 70s Nat Adderley - Natural Soul; The Scavenger Ran Blake - The Blue Potato Michael Howell - Looking Glass; In the Silence
  5. Here, go to this site and buy them all. This is the definitive series of Crumb's compositions. This link is to vol 10, all the other cds are listed below and are all excellent. Collected George Crumb on Bridge
  6. Yes, this Tour has become a farce.
  7. Bought this lp for 5 bucks yesterday. I listened to the music, and it is very Weather Report influenced (think Sweetwater), leaning toward the Wayne Shorter influence, when he was more prominent in the band. First three tracks are aggressive, then falls into a more contemplative mood, then going back again. Personnel are: Clive Stevens, Michael Carvin, David Johnson, Stu Woods, John Abercrombie and Robin Towner. I've looked online for more details, but found none. Was this a one shot effort? Because it's a pretty darn good lp, very much of its period.
  8. I'm down in Williamsburg, VA -- been here for the past week and a half, and have made some good scores. Listening to: The Great Jazz Trio - Milestones (Inner City) Klaus Doldinger - Blues Happening (World Pacific) Klaus Doldinger - Doldinger Jubilee (Atlantic Germany, 3 lps) Erroll Garner - Soliloquy (Columbia 6 eye mono) Willis Jackson - Gatorade (Prestige) Robin Kenyatta - Nomusa (Muse) Pete Yellin - It's the Right Ting (Mainstream) Roger Kellaway Trio on Prestige Ben Webster - Did You Call? on Nessa Buddy Tate & Al Grey - Just Jazz (Uptown) Blue Mitchell Quintet - Last Dance on JAM Nat Adderley - On the Move (Theresa) Red Mitchell meets Guido Manusardi (PAUSA) Gerry Mulligan's New Sextet (Chiaroscuro) Mickey Tucker - the Crawl (Muse) Alvin Queen - Glidin' and Stridin' (Silveto) Pepper Adams - Live at Fat Tuesday's (Uptown) Charles Earland on Trip
  9. OK, I'll admit it. I finished reading the latest and final Harry Potter book. At 800 pages, it isn't light reading, and I will admit the first 200 pages could have been tighter, because it is a pain to read through. However, I think Rowling has concluded the series with a terrific book, one that recasts the other books in a different light. It has little to do with magic or fantasy and everything to do with the relationship between people, children and adults alike, and how complicated motives, relationships and actions can be. Other than Roald Dahl (that I can think of), Rowling has expressed how complicated and contradictory people can be, the power struggles in all relationships, and the importance of developed creative thinking to deal with life situations. Thumbs up.
  10. Well, they have more sophisticated grammar checks now......
  11. Don Friedman - Hot Knepper & Pepper (Progressive) Tommy Flanagan - Thelonica (enja) Art Blakey - Soul Finger (Trip)
  12. Louis Hayes & Junior Cook - Ichi-Ban (Timeless/Muse) w/ Woody Shaw Mack Goldsbury - Anthropo-Logic (Muse) Kenny Burrell - A Generation Ago Today (Verve) Al Cohn & Jimmy Rowles - Heavy Love (Xanadu)
  13. I'm upgrading from my Goldring to this Pickering, inheriting the cartridge from my dad. Searching the web, there appears to be some aftermarket stuff for sale, but I have heard mixed reviews regarding those. Does anyone know of any places that might still sell the stylus?
  14. All my discs have been shipped as of today.
  15. I believe the red vinyl was used for mono and the blue for stereo. So, you may have an original stereo pressing. That's correct.
  16. Hell just froze over. Both albums are great, but Dewey Redman's The Struggle Continues is phenomenal! One of my all time favorites.
  17. Or the opposite: an insecure world embraces comforting and/or reassuring music.
  18. I think it is a great idea for a Select!
  19. Sonny Red - Sonny Red (Mainstream)
  20. I would only throw them away if they are torn, stained or moldy. I think for the Lex and some 47 st parchment-like paper was used, the white for NY, until they hit their 25th anniversary, where they had printed inner sleeves featuring selections from their catalogue. Same for the 26th and 27th anniversaries.....
  21. Weizen, I have seen your neighbors, and I think you are doing a public service!
  22. I don't know if donating is the way to go. I still think about Felix Grant's huge jazz collection that is rotting away in the basement of the Martin Luther King Jr library here in DC. I bet most of it is stolen.
