Remembering that Mingus' Candid LP set is missing one or two alt. takes [and Diane?] vs. the Sony cds, how does the sound of the Mosaic LP set stand up to the Sony cds? Mosaic is chronological, whereas the cds are of individual albums with the alternates at the end. I already have these cds - Mingus Ah Um Mingus Dynasty Also, does the Columbia/Legacy 3-cd box contain any extra material vs. the 2 cds?

I'm going to a smoking cessation session in Brookline this Saturday afternoon [yes, I hope it'll work ] and will have a couple of hours to kill. What's THE vinyl joint not to be missed? I was thinking the Looney Tunes near Berkelee College; any other opinions? God help me.

Mosaic's Scott Wenzel told me that the sonics of this recording are pretty amazing. I'm definitely ordering this one. Probably two copies, just in case... About a month ago, when I spoke to him, he said they weren't sure who'd be doing the liner notes. I suggested myself, but haven't heard from Mosaic yet.

I haven't heard any of these, but Simon should be good. I've got a couple of Criss Cross titles and I'm pretty careful about buying more. Some reviews I've read in the past heralded Criss Cross as the BN of today, I think it's not even close. The one CC disc I'd recommend in particular is Johnny Coles' sole outing for this label. Is it in print still? Anyway, it's a good one.
