  1. Just checked, the DSM book by Manek Daver is listed at $300 on Amazon. I have his "Jazz Album Covers" book [also a Japanese import]. It is indeed very good. Strange [not really] that an important American graphic artist doesn't have a decent folio dedicated to his work.
  2. Too lazy to Amazon . A heads-up on a good coffee-table size book would help a lot.
  3. Thanks again, friends!!!
  4. That should be "The JamFS are Coming", I think. Thanks for the info, sidewinder!!!!!

  6. Got my answer - Théâtre National Populaire [T.N.P.] in Paris
  7. Got this terrific 2fer, but the discographical info is a bit scarce. Anybody know what was the recording location?
  8. I cought that band at the Vanguard last Spring. Tremendous show! I'll probably pick up this new cd too.
  9. This is how the tubax ZOUNDZ !
  10. The name is in the picture file properties. Wanna cheat - be my guests.
  11. By whom and why??
  12. My hat's off to WKCR. This was an awesome tribute, the only one of it's kind, I'm sure. Phil Schaap had a nice perspective on the Percy France and Jimmy Smith connection.
  13. Finally, the K2's that'll probably be priced right. 1,500 yen translates to about $15.
  14. This looks like it's the lay-up of the Jazz Memorabilia Auction that is going down on Sunday, February 20th, at the Lincoln Center. I see they're doing a live auction on eBay concurrently.
  15. On a tangent - The US-made xrcd's have the stupidest packaging I've seen [JVC must've sub-contracted the Verve design people]. The cd's are encased in the incredibly tight sand-paper-like envelopes inside the cardboard books. ALL of them, without exception, get scratched. I keep mine in separate jewel cases. Just today I bought this Bill Holman xrcd [$3 at a Housing Works thrift store, so I shouldn't really kvetch], and it's all scoffed up. Hopefully it can be buffed off. I wish I knew a joint in NY that does cd refinishing.
  16. I have a Japanese cd of this, can't make out the name of the engineer. RVG?
  17. How do you go about shipping these boxes to Europe, price-wise and mode-wise?
  18. Congrats! Did you get any Mosaics for your b-day?
  19. I think most Mosaics don't sell to their 100% capacity, i.e. 5,000 or 7,000 or whatever # of copies. In many cases their licensing agreements run out before they get to even print most of them. So the contention that someone who buys one or more Mosaics to resell them later on is depriving someone else is kind of absurd.
  20. Paul Horn
  21. Alfred Lion on the far left?
  22. I don't want to interefere with the local gurus on what components are good or not, but if you're interested, PM me. $500 can be done!
  23. Now that's kind of taking it to extreme. Nazis would've killed a gentile spouse of a Jew as well. It doesn't make the spouse a Jew, does it? Nazi definition of who was and who wasn't a Jew was just slightly different from the Orthodox [or Conservative, for that matter] model. I'll settle on Chaloff as a half-Jew. Did anybody mention Glenn Spearman?
  24. I think Chaloff was Russian [not a Jew of Russian descent].
