  1. That can actually make them sound very nice. Less music on a 12" disc can possibly make for wider-spaced, deeper grooves.
  2. I ordered this lot of about 3 dozen from Music Matters when I was under the influence...of the Hoffman Forum. I did play 6 or 7 of them, and they sounded remarkable. The rest stayed sealed in their shipping boxes and I forgot about them; we were fixing our house then...that was 9 years ago. I can't believe I've had them this long! You are right about the unpredictability factor - some are possibly buggered enough for the particularly anal buyer to raise a shit storm. Just pulled them out. On Side A I'm itching to open and play them, on Side B, I am sure the PITA level will creep up rather fast.
  3. Same here. I've been storing albums in poly sleeves for decades, record outside the jacket, in inner sleeve. Speaking of the outer poly sleeves - these are excellent value. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B003NG2WIG/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1 Inners - https://www.amazon.com/Sleeves-Vinyl-Provide-Collection-Protection/dp/B07CYKRVRW/ref=pd_bxgy_img_3/132-6046237-0480110?_encoding=UTF8&pd_rd_i=B07CYKRVRW&pd_rd_r=7a2ab0db-bd1f-454d-845e-50535476c235&pd_rd_w=sQZpu&pd_rd_wg=8Bz1E&pf_rd_p=f325d01c-4658-4593-be83-3e12ca663f0e&pf_rd_r=Z758G89CCB9DJNP31TF6&psc=1&refRID=Z758G89CCB9DJNP31TF6
  4. Well, at least in theory, the 45 RMP 12" LP will sound noticeably superior to a 33 1/3 rpm. This is a good explanation why: https://www.classic45s.com/why45s/45sound.html I'm with you on the changing sides every 7 to 10 minutes, though. I'm sitting on 30 of the unopened ones...an impulse buy, as I confessed above.
  5. Sound diet is very important to boost his immune system. Good luck!
  6. I've been out of the loop with the Music Matters. They are charging $75 +s/h for 33 1/3 rpm LPs now?! That is ...a lot. Otoh, the JRVGs used to be $27.99 20 years ago. Edit: what is their price structure based on? The 45rpm LPs are priced from $39.95 to $99.95.
  7. The building is owned by the 116 ASSOCIATES LLC 116 is the street number for the club.
  8. Yeah, it's stamped VAN GELDER on both sides. The matrix numbers are PRST 7650 A and B. ST catalog prefix is for stereo, which this is not. You'll get a kick out of the shrink wrap that's still on my copy. It's a got a JORDAN MARSH price sticker. 7.79...not cheap, in 1969.
  9. Trying not to look at your guys' replies. So far I've listened to the first 4 tracks - 1.1970s big band. A Latin-spirited, driving beat. Keyboardist could've been more interesting. Overall - I like it a lot. 2.Kenny Burrell. I am a fan, just not of this cut. 3.Late 1950s-early 1960s feel. A very talented classically-trained pianist, maybe Bill Evans. 4. A Blue Note style mid-1960s sound.
  10. I am very upset. It was one of my favorite clubs. I've been a patron for 20 years. It's a damn shame.
  11. Too lazy to check if someone had already posted this one.
  12. I've got a few of those Music Matters 45 RPM albums, still sealed. It was an impulse buy. I was thinking maybe it's time to sell. I checked eBay, and some of them sell for a lot of money, especially the ones on SRX vinyl, of which I only just found out about it yesterday. It's hard to imagine that after decades there are still developments in vinyl composition that surpass the existing formulas, but I could be just talking nonsense, and the SRX vinyl is amazing.
  13. How do these generally stack up against the Music Matters releases?
  14. How old were you when you bought it?
  15. I remember when mail was being delivered twice a day, morning and afternoon newspapers. Mail carriers also delivered monthly pension disbursements [in cash!], and telegrams. Packages, however, had to be picked up at the post office. When I was in my teens, I used to order LPs by mail directly from the Melodiya record label's catalogue, and pay for them when they came to our local post office. That was in the old country.
  16. It also appears that the tail of Fats's pooch terminates in a phone receiver. Lucky dog!
  17. Miles Davis and the Modern Jazz Giants, 1969 Prestige reissue, PRST 7560, cover labeled ELECTRONICALLY REMASTERED FOR STEREO. I bought this LP in a yard sale last year, for a buck, didn't notice the off-putting ELECTRONICALLY designation, and was really surprised to hear it, because this record is proper MONO, not a fake STEREO, and in fact the sound on this LP is remarkably good. I don't know how they managed to squeeze over 30 minutes of music on one side, and almost 30 on the other, but the result is top topnotch. Correct me if I'm wrong, but this is probably the only way to get the whole December 24th, 1954 session on one disc. Grab one, if you see it. You won't be disappointed.
