  1. Dallas-Providence is an easy flight. Newport is only a short ride from there. I can help with the logistics for next year. I'm really looking forward to tomorrow, and will keep you posted on everything that goes on. There are twenty acts appearing on 4 stages, but I'm planing on catching just 4 or 5. Too bad the Arkestra is playing the early show, because my wife doesn't want to go that early. So I'm going to miss that. Otherwise, I'm planning on starting with Tia Fulle, the Spanish Harlem Orchestra, then Gary Bartz Another Earth 50th anniversary band [that's the one I really want to see], Thundercat, Billy Hart, and top it off with Herbie Hancock. Never seen him live.
  2. Friday is the day when I’ll be there. Will take some photos. It was pretty slim, actually, ...just the albums he produced, or wrote the liner notes for.

    Kenny Burrell

Almost a 40 year difference between them...could be love, could be anything. Could be that's she's milking him [and everyone who sent the money] dry before he goes to that jazz club up above.

  6. I really enjoy this cd, which combines the Amoroso / Brasil albums.
  7. I'm surprised not to see Jim R's comments here. He's a bossa nova connoisseur. Haven't seen him post in the forum for a while, actually.
  8. I don't know what's not slow about it. It takes me 1 hr. to get to Boston and 2 hrs. to get back sometimes. There were 10 automobile-related deaths in Boston last year. As bad as it sounds, it's not a lot So you are safe!
  9. Watched the Broken Flowers again, first time after I saw it in the theater on its first run. Love Mulatu Astatke's music, but the film is pretentious, empty dreck, imho..
  10. I can tell you one thing - straw skimmer hats were very popular in 1915!
  11. I hate to give my impressions after hearing the album in its entirety just once. One thing for certain, it's not just for lovers. I wonder what John has against lovers. That's how he happened, after all...
  12. We do have at least one true world class player - Pulisic. And, if he does well going forward, McKennie. When was the last time US had one of those?! Yes...never.
  13. 8/10 I did take the test officially in 1995.
  14. Anyone else is going? I'll be there all day Friday August 2.
  15. How do you figure? Boston consistently has the worst traffic* I've experienced over the years. And I lived and drove in NYC for over a decade. *Traffic here indicates very slow. Unless you mean having a heart attack and the paramedics not being able to get to you , how are you u risking your life?
  16. There is no doubt for me that Brazil was favored by the Conmebol or whoever else was running this show. Messi is 100% right to call it bullshit. Two clear penalties not awarded to Argentina.
  17. I wonder how the sumo wrestler from the Disney video would fare against the drunks from the baseball game. Cue in The Haitian Fight Song, and open the gates!
  18. Yes, it was fine, and it could've been very good. First Alexis was injured and subbed 15 minutes into it, then Messi got shafted shortly before the half-time. The expediency with which the ref showed hm the red card was odd, almost like he was set up. I thought Argentina played their best team-game of the tournament. Messi had some choice words for the Comnebol brass afterwards. Next year Argentina, along with Colombia, will be hosting a new Copa. After that, they are switching to the "every four years" format. Manana is the football fans paradise - three finals : Women's World Cup Gold Cup USA-Mexico Copa America Brazil-Peru
  19. I buy my reading glasses at the Ocean State Job Lot. Sometimes with coupons they are $1. Otherwise like $3 or $4.
  20. In other news - Dutch women go through into the WC final, beating Germans on the way...something that the Dutch men could never do...so they put their women on the front lines instead.
  21. Chile-Peru AMAZING MATCH Remarkable skill and luck of the Peruvian keeper pushes them through into the final with Brazil. Chile had 70% of ball possession. Bizarre second goal didn’t help.
  22. I'm guilty of favoring Argentina, so the calls may have seemed one-sided to me.
  23. Did you watch the match, or the highlights? I didn't think Brazil were any better, they allowed so many shots on goal, 4 vs 14 for Arg..it's quite telling. IMHO the ref should've used the VAR when they took Aguero down in the box, right before Brazil's second goal; a few lesser calls went in Brazil's favor. Dani Alves should've gotten another yellow, etc. But that's no excuse for their loss. Aguero was disappointing. He didn't create anything, just hoped for Messi to feed him balls...but couldn't finish. Otamendi was very poor, his lack of speed was exploited by Brazil in both goals. Coach probably wanted an experienced center back, but got a dud. Just my $.02
