You've got some type-written text bleeding through from the other side, Chuck. I hope it's nothing important.

COVID-19 2.0: No Politics edition
Dmitry replied to ghost of miles's topic in Miscellaneous - Non-Political
Don't forget the millions of people who are here illegally, or undocumented, whatever your semantic preference. They are not going to be getting a government check, and most of them are employed in the service and food sectors, which are hit the hardest. We are going to either see a massive effusion across the southern border, and/or a spike in theft of food stuffs, at first, and then violence. ...Provided this "social separation" or "stay at home" doctrine goes into the summer months. Soup kitchens in the areas where they live may need to be part of the mitigation strategy. And the sooner it's planned for, the better. -
Mosaic LP Box Sets On Acoustic Sounds

Sorry for going off on a tangent, am I the only one to have an issue with the PREOWNED tag on anything? There's no such thing as"preowned", there's used. -

How long are the Americans willing to play along with the distancing? One month, two...6? This could turn into a bit of a sticky wicket. The author describes it well. https://spectator.us/longer-lockdown-continues-imperiled/ -
Good question, Bertrand!

That’s very bad, as I’m not a “ripper” either, and would most probably stop buying new releases, period, if they don’t come out on cds. I have never bought an album that was offered only as a download. More and more musicians are not selling cds at the gigs now, and I don’t mean younger generation, but the well-established and older ones also, even though their target audience is also older listeners. The last concert I was at, literally just days before the virus stopped everything, Brian Lynch joked about offering his cds for sale after the gig, referring to them as old-timey things that some may not know of. As to your question,...I have no idea. Amazon has been a primary source for me, but I have bought cds from cdbaby also.

Telarc, what jazz sessions from this label do you enjoy?
Dmitry replied to Hardbopjazz's topic in Discography
Telarc is well-known for their pioneering audiophile digital classical recordings, but I'm not sure they are active as a label any more. About a decade ago they were bought by Concord, and the corporates pretty much gutted their operation. Their Grammy-winning engineering and mastering team had been either let go, or left, and has since reopened for business as an independent. As to your inquiry, I have a couple of Jacques Loussier discs, a Kevin Mahogany, Oscar Peterson / RAy Brown / Milt Jackson - The Very Tall Band. Oh, and the the Harry Sweets Edison Live at the Iridium disc features a very-very good Junior Mance solo rendition of Emily. Their live recordings, in general, were some of the best. -
Explain, please. Meanwhile... Otis Redding - I'm Sick Y'all

Thank you. I stand corrected. The detergent not just binds the dirt on your skin, but dismantles the structure of the virus. Apologies to Brad. -

Brad, washing your hands with soap does not kill the virus, it facilitates removal of it from your skin, and sending it down the drain. -

COVID-19 2.0: No Politics edition
Dmitry replied to ghost of miles's topic in Miscellaneous - Non-Political
All I know is that in situations like this and other calamities, it's the small business owners, myself including, who ALWAYS get shafted. Corporations receive money and buy their own stock back at a serious discount, and there is no law that would prohibit that. Soft banks get bailed out and carry on as before. But the local diner, transmission shop, landscape company, yoga studio, what you call "an independent contractor", they get...low interest loans. I hope I'm wrong this time around. -
I just looked him up. You're right. I didn't know who he was. Did he have a musical number in The Animal House?

If this were a matter for a vote, as you appear to suggest, Dan, then I would vote against your proposal. He's not being threatening, just wrong, possibly existing in the universe of his own, if you know what I mean. There are billions of highly-functioning adults who have beliefs of some sort of another, like being sure that that one guy parted the Mediterranean to make way for him and his friends to walk on the bottom; others are sure that their guy could glide on water and feed everyone with a baguette. Others believe in forced vaccinations and government conspiracies. At least we have precedents for those. On the positive side - FDA just cleared a 2-minute COVID-19 antibody test. It's serological, which means you have to have your blood drawn for testing. Testing positive means one has had the virus and has developed immunity. https://www.axios.com/fda-coronavirus-two-minute-testing-kit-bodysphere-a665429d-488d-4edf-bd36-9180e2a06e4c.html -

The virtual song-along is getting viral. This is the Berklee edition. I can’t say I enjoyed it, but here it goes. -
My god.... i saw him at the revived Cafe Bohemia in NYC on January 11. It was a fantastic gig! He was a very heavy-set man and could do not get up and about without difficulty, but he played superbly. Immediately after the concert I bought his new album that just came out last year. Blue Dawn- Blue Nights is really good, refreshing, inventive post-bop, infinitely better than the cookie-cutter, uninspiring music the conservatory graduates are churning out on industrial scale these days. AND I was slated to hear him at Briwn University on March 14. That concert was canceled due to quarantine at the last moment. Oh man..
