  1. In his last post he describes narcissistic behavior. I'm referring to this - More likely worship himself about his amazing superhuman power (including monetary power) of being able to round up such "desirable" items. And of course, the 1st press of Indeed and 1st edition of Darwin ARE superior to the others. For example, wouldn't You gladly pay $100 for either, knowing that they are worth more? That doesn't make you a fetishist, just someone who knows an amazing bargain. If it's only some, as you describe, who think these are superior to millions of other copies, then to all others these objects would have minimal, if any value. But this is not the case.
  2. If the sound quality is good, this is definitely on my 'to buy' list. I see that they didn't do the Girl from Ipanema...not a bad thing. I'll probably go for the cd vs. the vinyl.
  3. I understand what you're saying, however there is a clear definition of the term "fetishism", and it doesn't comply with your application of it to the collecting of record albums. What you've described is narcissism, not fetishism. Now, if we bring the $7,000 Lee Morgan's Indeed album back as an example, I think it just proves that someone who has deep pockets and collects records, will obviously spend more than someone who can't afford the price, and nothing else. And the more wealthy people will get into this area of collecting, the more the prices will rise. For instance, someone who collects rare books will spend $170,000 on a mint-conditioned first edition of Charles Darwin's Origin of the Species. In relative terms, collecting of record albums will seem like a bargain. Both the 1st pressing of Lee Morgan's Indeed, and the 1st edition of Darwin are just that - first of many, and thus unique. We can listen and read the consequent copies, which, like you said, sound pretty good. That's what I do. I do admire the collectors, though. They help preserve the world's heritage.
  4. http://www.trustmeimascientist.com/2013/02/04/the-science-of-sample-rates-when-higher-is-better-and-when-it-isnt/ Interesting and non-partisan article that focuses on hi-rez, namely 192kHz. Apparently the scientists are not impressed. I've been toying with the idea of digitizing some of my records, and won't futz around with the 192kHz/24bit. It doesn't seem to make an iota of difference over 96, or 88kHz.
  5. How much was that all-together, the tt + all the alterations?
  6. The underbelly of this Project looks remarkably like Rega RP5(?) that my friend had. It had a plastic sub-platter, just like yours. A cost-cutting measure, no doubt. The belt would slip on it. He also bought the acrylic platter, then ended up ditching the Rega all-together. Imho Rega charges much money for so little in terms of what they offer to their consumer...I was somewhat taken aback when I first looked under the platter of that tt.
  7. No worries. You can say whatever you want, the moderator is after me.
  8. I'm curious why such an enthusiastic response to the news of this release? It can't be Castro himself, can it? I bought a Castro LP, Lush Life...played it once, it was quite underwhelming.
  9. Close...but no cigar.

    Johnny Lytle

I only have one of his records, the NICE AND EASY, an excellent session on JAZZLAND JLP67. Rec.Jan.29 1962. The rest of the band were Johnny Griffin, Bobby Timmons, Sam Jones and Louis Hayes. Consequently, this is a nice, cooking and sophisticated record. Next I'm going to buy Bobby Timmons feat.Johhny Lytle's - Workin' Out. I just played some cuts from it on youtube, and is it ever good!! Timmons is definitely in great shape on it, and imho in a significantly more modal state of mind than on the other albums of his that I've heard.
  11. I don't know about the greatest, but Curtis Amy's Mustang definitely merits a digital release. Just scored two!! copies of this fine record, both yellow label radio dj mono promos, both in the same record store. The odds of that happening were pretty slim, but there they were.
  12. Me? Desist...?! Am I the one posting about Trump's dad?.. No Politics forum...not even the super-secret Democratic underground forum, like there used to be? I'm sorry..
  13. Yep, white man is the devil who speaketh with forked tongue. Wrote a song 'bout it.
  14. I couldn't express it better than this - A strong theme of sarcasm and self-deprecation, often with deadpan delivery, runs throughout British humour. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/British_humour
  15. Well, I'd say that The Discreet Charm Of The Bourgeoisie is a satire more than a comedy, although I suppose it can be both. I have seen dozens of French comedies in my lifetime, from the early years on..De Funes movies, Pierre Richard, some of them are funny for sure., others are poor. Richard, in particular, seems to have been playing the same role for decades. Tati never made me crack a smile. Is he considered the French prototype to the English Mr.Bean? One can define the British humor, but what is the gist of what the French humor represents? Back to Jerry Lewis? http://www.vanityfair.com/culture/2013/07/french-love-jerry-lewis-paris
  16. BBS, I don't follow this forum like you do. So I quoted your text from 10 months ago...is that verbotten? Fetishism ...are you saying that whoever buys that $7,000 Lee Morgan first pressing will - a. Worship it for its amazing superhuman powers? or b. Have sex with it?
  17. Paging the Clinton family... So you got a womanizer and possibly a rapist ex-President, the enabler wife, and a bunch of people on this forum who are going to vote for her. Talk about weirdness...
  18. So French people are considered to have a peculiar sense of humor, which some might call primitive. I'm trying to recall even a handful of really good French comedies...nothing contemporary jumps to mind. Maybe some Moliere...but that ain't movies. Granted, I don't speak French, so maybe I am missing on some really clever French jokes.
  19. Define "a lot".
  20. And your point is..?
  21. 200 records + 3 Commodores take all of about 4 linear feet. Not that difficult to find room for...if you have friends or family who will store them.
  22. Didn't you express that sentiment several times in this thread already? Not that there's a limit... Yes, I did just read this thread as my lunch-time entertainment. Guilty. Nothing new here, same monotonous s..t as there was 15 years ago. Bottom-line from yours truly - spend the money on good speakers, leave the wires to those that "hear wire".
  23. I'm sure you have, I just didn't have the heart to read through another 6 pages-worth of the speaker cable voodoo.
  24. Yep. As long as it's properly insulated. The audiophile cables and power cords are nothing but snake oil. My recommendation is the home improvement store 12g underground low voltage wire. Make sure it's "outside-rated', meaning it's well-insulated. Should cost you about $.25 per foot, or thereabout.
