  1. I endorse that statement absolutely. MG
  2. And a welcome from me, too. I'd agree with your assessment of the vocals. But I was running down the other night when I finished playing through the whole set, so another listen next month (going to concentrate on disc 1 for a while) might change my view of them. MG
  3. If you yelled for 8 years, 7 months and 6 days you would have produced enough sound energy to heat one cup of coffee. (Hardly seems worth it.) If you farted consistently for 6 years and 9 months, enough gas is produced to create the energy of an atomic bomb. (Now that's more like it!) The human heart creates enough pressure when it pumps out to the body to squirt blood 30 feet. (O.M.G.!) A pig's orgasm lasts 30 minutes. (In my next life, I want to be a pig.) A cockroach will live nine days without its head before it starves to death! (Creepy) (I'm still not over the pig.) Banging your head against a wall uses 150 calories a hour (Don't try this at home, maybe at work) The male praying mantis cannot copulate while its head is attached to its body. The female initiates sex by ripping the male's head off. ("Honey, I'm home. What the....?!") The flea can jump 350 times its body length. It's like a human jumping the length of a football field. (30 minutes..lucky pig! Can you imagine?) The catfish has over 27,000 taste buds. (What could be so tasty on the bottom of a pond? ) Some lions mate over 50 times a day. (I still want to be a pig in my next life...quality over quantity) Butterflies taste with their feet. (Something I always wanted to know.) The strongest muscle in the body is the tongue. (Hmmmmmm......! Worth thinking about, that one!!) Right-handed people live, on average, nine years longer than left-handed people. (If you're ambidextrous, do you split the difference?) Elephants are the only animals that cannot jump. (okay, so that would be a good thing) A cat's urine glows under a black light. (I wonder who was paid to figure that out?) An ostrich's eye is bigger than its brain. (I know some people like that.) Starfish have no brains. (I know some people like that too.) Polar bears are left-handed. (If they switch, they'll live a lot longer) Humans and dolphins are the only species that have sex for pleasure. (What about that pig??) MG
  4. Not true. I bow to greater expertise and I'm glad to hear it. MG
  5. Now that's a GREAT album title, cover, etc...I want it! So do I - I haven't got ANY of Sonny's later Cadets. MG
  6. Moderation, which I know can be done remotely, is only part of the time burden falling on Jim. And apparently only a small element, since I seldom detect much going on except for threads being merged sometimes (apart from this week). I suspect, but don't know, that pure admin stuff like registering new members and whatever (and I don't know what's in "whatever") might be more time-consuming. And in addition, there are operational matters, like backup and system integrity that seem to me to be necessarily carried out where the computers physically are. We're working towards a solution here, but the money's only part of it. He's actually got two full time jobs - being a musician, practicing and so on, and being a parent. MG
  7. Don't you think the "Donate"-function (link on the top right of the page) is enough? I suppose most of us have a Paypal account. Actually, no; I hardly ever look there. One of the problems is that we don't contribute regularly but either when there's an appeal or when we feel like it. To judge by the number of people into this thread and the sincerity of all our reactions to the possible (I hope only possible) closure of the board, there seem to be around 50/60 regulars, most of whom could well afford to make small regular payments. If there were a way of setting up an automatic payment every month, I think we 50/60 people could ensure that the very sensible objective Clem set out earlier - that we try to raise enough money that we can completely cover the costs and treat the publicity etc facility as a bonus or reward for Organissimo - is met. Even if we assume that a third of us are truly strapped for cash and, with the best will in the world, won't be able to contribute regularly, forty people coughing up $10 a month looks enough to cover the costs (including some extra that will be needed for new software or upgrades from time to time). But, without the security of regular payment pledges if you like, I can see financial difficulties for Jim in carrying on (to add to the other problems). We do need to get the money on some sort of firm footing, or there'll be little point in trying to help with easing Jim's time burden. While I think something satisfactory can be done on both fronts, we really do need to get our act together and sort out what those things are. MG
  8. That's right! Now, where did I hear that Rudy didn't allow smoking? Or was it just spliffs? MG
  9. Listening to disc one of set #00038 right now. Cor - mine's set 300! Looks like Mosaic had a big initial demand for this set. I assumed a LOT had gone out as freebies but you having no 38 means that there were a lot of real sales. Unless they're stacked in random order in the warehouse, of course MG
  10. I don't want Christmas snow in Texas either. But I wouldn't do nuthin'. I also don't want Christmas snow in Tonyrefail. 1413 now Or, if I make the second sentence into a separate post, 1412. Nah, can't be asked. MG
  11. And with another due in the spring, this is perfectly understandable. But it's probably also perfectly soluble. MG
  12. I don't know those people and can't say I like that kind of stuff but they seemed a) to be playing it very competently, b) enjoying themselves, c) pleasing the audience and d) a bit too old (but perhaps they've been playing this kind of stuff since the eighties). For my taste, give me Rick James' version - oh, I've already got it. So one of us is happy. MG
  13. Charles Brown - Sunny road - Route 66 MG
  14. That sounds the sensible voice of experience, Ghost. What we need is a word from Jim to say what it would take to keep things running - particularly in terms of what admin jobs and personnel would be needed so he can take a leak from time to time. MG
  15. No probs about making contributions - even regularly. And, as I'm retired, I've got time to do something administratively, though if it needs special equipment/software/living in America, there would be difficulties. But, if it helps, I volunteer. MG
  16. I need 1422 to get to 10K and choose my own status. MG Or maybe 1421.
  17. Oh. This is a good place. A learning place. And I haven't yet made enough posts to be able to define my own status Only 1423 to go; let's see, there are 27 days to the end of the year, that's an average of 52.7 a day. Hmmm. I DO want to stay in touch. I'm not computer literate enough to suggest solutions, however. I'll go with whatever. themagnificentgoldberg@yahoo.co.uk Allan
  18. Esther Phillips - Live at Freddie Jett's Pied Piper - Atlantic orig Della Reese - Live - ABC Paramount, HMV UK release Lou Rawls - Shades of blue - Philadelphia International, UK issue MG
