  1. Just arrived with the post. I've had half of this on a double LP reissue for years and never got around to getting the whole thing. MG
  2. Bobby "Blue" Bland Wynonie "Mr Blues" Harris Billy Wright Prince of the Blues
  3. David's discography covers hardly any of the R&B records he's appeared on. That's the real problem - lack of info. MG
  4. Hank Jones would be almost as difficult a task as David Newman... MG
  5. I didn't know "Centerpiece" had been reissued. Must get the CD. I've had the LP since it came out in 1980. Not just for Hank - Calvin Newborn is one of my favourite guitarists. I've been playing it a lot lately. I note with great interest that the sleeve of the CD corrected the spelling mistake in Calvin's name; it was spelled "Newborne" on the LP. Thanks for letting us know about this. MG
  6. I know how you feel - I completed my Grant green collection a few weeks ago with the Mary Lou Williams. Now I'm just waiting for the unissued material. I think it's kind of a good feeling; but at the same time, there's nothing to look forward to, from a practical point of view. Lou Donaldson, I suppose, but I don't quite feel the same about Lou. MG
  7. Marshall Fields Soldiers Field And it's on a nice lake
  8. Randy Johnston Randy Newman Don Randi
  9. Only temporarily Jazzmoose. You can take it up again when you reach retirement. (Well, one of my former staff never did give it up. We could always find him in the office library, pretending to read something, if we really needed him.) MG

  11. Real men use 45s. yes, that's true; I've broken many a 78 in my time - At last! Some proper appreciation of the music! OK - it's been interesting, even if you've all taken it a bit seriously. It's a living for some. MG
  12. Zsa Zsa Gabor Donald Gabor Continental Records
  13. Stone me! (Died of a surfeit of Mosaics) MG
  14. Prestige's Bob Weinstock might have been that one. Mobley recorded quite a number of session for Prestige in the late '5Os. Besides his two leaders dates, there were the following albums he took part in: - Elmo Hope 'Informal Jazz' - Jackie McLean '4, 5 and 6' - Tenor Conclave - Art Farmer 'Farmer's Market' - All Night Long Yeah, but how many Prestige sessions was Weinstock producing in the 60s? Quite - he pretty well gave up producing once he hired Esmond Edwards and Ozzie Cadena. And Esmond was very into the big horn sounds of Hawk, Arnett, Jug, Forrest, Gator, Jaws and Tate. Prestige was doing well with these musicians. Not much room in there for a man with a VERY different sound. MG

  17. Sounds like she's got a career as an Evil Easter Bunny ahead of her. A couple of years ago, my younger grandson, who's now four, got extremely pissed off with my daughter, because she wouldn't let him sleep in their bed. Yelled, played up, the lot, but eventually accepted that he'd have to sleep in his own bed, as usual. Some time later that evening, water started coming through the lounge ceiling. The little bugger had only got up, put the plug in the bathroom basin, turned on the tap, then gone back to bed! He's never done it again! A lot of this behaviour derives from soft drinks. MG
  18. Yeah, Vonnegut's a real writer! MG
  19. Mine arrived this morning too - thanks Tom. MG
  20. What's a Scorpio reissue? MG I think it's one of those current US BN vinyl reissues that you see a lot of in the shops over here for £10.99 or thereabouts. Never heard one though. scorpio is a record distribution where most of all ebay dealers getting there reissue lps from - he is specialised in jazz (lots of blue note titles) and soul funk. 1 blue note lp costs 6 $! pressing quality is sometimes bad (warped), some are pretty good but never to compare with reissues from the 80s or the originals ! and be aware: the labels of those blue note reissues are very often counterfeits of the orig labels (new york address or 47 west address etc). huge offers of 60s latin soul funk titles - you can not buy there as a private person! Goodness! Thanks. MG
  21. Austin Powers Steve Austin Austin 7
  22. I can't believe no one recalled "New York, New York" It was in my list @ #14 or thereabouts this morning. MG
