  1. When I listen to Steely Dan, I often have thoughts of a seedy, underworld, existence of life. At other times a beach seen, warm weather, fun times, good booze, jazz, and good old American fucking around, day-to-day life. All the characters in the Steely tunes, to me, seem warm. Even the 'bad' characters give positive vibes and have something interesting to offer. When listening to Steely tunes I've never had the occasion to think of Hitler, Nazi Germany, Germany, or any part of Europe. Again, another individual perspective on the songs of the Dan.
  2. I'm listening to the same. This Mosaic is near the top of my list of Best Mosaics of All Time. I wasn't going to purchase this set but took a chance due to positive opinions on this Board. I didn't know what to expect, yet, received one of the best Mosaic packages of all time. This is nothing short of spectacular, crisp and cool playing from all involved. I never tire of the music on this Mosaic set.
  3. The thing I enjoy about Steely Dan lyrics is that for every scenario that person 'A' can think of, person 'B' can think of another equally explanitive scenario. The Steely lyrics have filled my mind with all sort of positive visions through the years.
  4. How 'bout six Old Milwaukee Lights? Suits me.
  5. I drink beer whenever I desire. Sometimes it's every night. Sometimes it's only once every few weeks (yeah, right, like we really believe you, wesbed!). Yeah, whatever, man, just give me another Schlitz and another tune from the Byrd/Adams Mosaic. This is all I ask. B-)
  6. Bravo. The favicon is there. Here's a screenshot from my copy of Firefox. Perfect.
  7. Tonight I'm listening to the Byrd/Adams Mosaic and drinking the beer that made Milwaukee famous. Yes, when I'm in the mood, Schlitz is a good beer. I don't care what you say, the Schlitz tastes good following a plate of Mexican food and while listening to the Byrd/Adams Mosaic. Feh.
  8. Thanks for the information. I'm, now, going to listent to Chant via the Byrd/Adams Mosaic. Starting with 'Old Cowhand' (one of my favorites). Donald Byrd, Pepper Adams, and Herbie Hancock. It hardly gets any better.
  9. I found this note via an NPR article. Even while studying science in college, Herbie played jazz professionally in Chicago, sitting in with legends like Coleman Hawkins and trumpeter Donald Byrd. Herbie's reputation as an astute pianist was starting to spread on the scene. Byrd encouraged him to travel to New York and join him in the studio for the trumpeter's 1962 album, Free Form.
  10. AfricaBrass is what I prefer. Who the feck is Jeff B? He has no history around here.
  11. I've been viewing the Organissimo site with Firefox for months. It always displays correctly for me. Yeah, my Firefox program is calling-out for a favicon on the Organissimo page. Maybe use the orange-target-symbol thing?
  12. Three Mosaic sets I recommend, done in the same style as the Byrd/Adams box are: The Byrd/Adams box, the Horace Parlan box, and the Stanley Turrentine box. All very good Blue Note music.
  13. 178 to be exact. Look here.
  14. The main reason I learned an appreciaton for 'real' jazz:
  15. Go, go, go... Woman, please don't bother me no mo'.
  16. From a Southwesterner to a Northwestener... please, Johnson, shut the fuck up. Feeling better?
  17. Stay with the jazz, let her go.
  18. Oh. The family ties thing. I understand. The part of my family I care about resides in Tucson within two miles of my residence (parents and a sister).
  19. I was in the Columbus, Ohio area in 2003 at various times... visiting a female friend. It was a pleasant reminder that I'm a westerner whether I like it or not. Just last week my Dad and I took his Jeep and drove only 30 minutes from the house, found a Jeep trail, drove the Jeep part way, and hiked the last mile to a water fall. We had lunch by the fall, found a ghost ranch house, talked to some cattle, and escaped from the trail while the Arizona sun fell in a purple haze. I don't enjoy the intense Arizona heat for as long as a summer lasts around here, but I'll take the 108° in place of the 8° any time. Sometimes the heat seems 'majestic' in an odd sort of way. I like the desert rain that comes down hard in July. I like to go 'running' during the winter evenings with only a long-sleeved T-shirt and a pair of running shorts. I like knowing I can eat good Mexican food in a different restaurant every night for more than a week. I like wearing shorts nearly all year round. I like knowing my car will be ready to go every morning, just hop in and drive to work. No scraping and sloshing and shivering. Tucson runs about 10 degrees cooler than Phoenix. Also, in Tucson, the nights are cooler. I agree that Phoenix is too hot and too big. But, really, catesta, Ohio, Pennslyvania, or New Jersey? Did you get a bad beer last night?
  20. It's a heat thing?
  21. You've gotta be kidding. Moving east? Ohio? Pennslyvania? What? Feck.

    March 1st RVG

I heard this in its first CD incarnation many years ago and thought it to be deadly dull, should I reconsider ? Herbie's wandering, clasically-played, jazz piano fills me with a sensation of relaxation, contentment, interest, hope, and wicked excitement. Herbie's piano skills are showcased well on SPEAK LIKE A CHILD. This music doesn't seem dull, to me, in the slightest.

  24. I wonder if this is worth purchasing?
