  1. I have enjoyed my time in the 'middle ages.' When you're in this age range you aren't too far from the young or the old. It's comfortable to relate to both sides of the age scale. When you're in the younger years, the older people can seem a long way in the distance and difficult to relate to.
  2. Jack Benny's age is a good one. Now that I'm here, I understand why Jack Benny liked 39.
  3. Happy B-Day, man.
  4. Yes, it's true. Pepe's in Tucson. I can almost taste the salsa now. I might have to make a journey over there this weekend for a Saturday morning breakfast.
  5. The temperature is supposed to be in the upper 70s, in Tucson, by the end of the week. I will be taking your suggestions to get some Mexican food and a cold Tecate (with lime) before this week runs out. Last week I found a place that sells tires and Mexican food. The place had one of the best salsas I've had. They serve all the Mexican basics plus fresh tamales. You can eat while you get new tires.
  6. I'm going to be ignored by Chuck for a VERY long time.
  7. Thanks to all. It's good to be the age I am. I'd like to stay in 40-something age range for many more years than possible. I enjoy being in the middle of all the ages. I can relate to both the young and old. I share common interests with both sides of the age scale.
  8. The Mosaics I received were the most recent Selects, the Art Pepper and the Andrew Hill. Wait... I had to purchase the Selects for myself. Oh, and they weren't purchased due to my birthday.
  9. No matter how much effort I will place on NOT watching the Oscars... my pick is Million Dollar Baby. I like Clint Eastwood and enjoyed his latest movie very much. When Clint finally grows too old, we won't get movies quite as good as this anymore. The movie reminded me of a modern day western. Clint is still playing the man with no name.
  10. I agree with you about the Oscars. I won't be watching. The answer to your question is: because they don't make millions of dollars for the folks who work in and around the city of Hollywood, California.
  11. I remember, during the 1970s & 1980s, the only thing I spent money on was music. These days, however, there are so many more things one can spend money on. Cell phones, DVDs, computers and video games are just the beginning.
  12. Money talks.
  13. Hey, Bob Wills is my man too. I credit Bob Wills with exposing me to a kind of music that caught my ear at a young age. A sound I could never forget but didn't know what it was till I was older. I don't consider Bob Wills to be 'just country.' Yes, his roots are country... or maybe swing? Bob Wills had the best damned fiddle player in the business, in his band.
  14. Jazz helps to create a positive mood for me. Unfortunately, the opposite is also true regarding non-jazz tunes. I grew-up on country music. It was all I knew till I was about 10 years old. My Dad played it all the time. I'm so far from country music, now, that I don't enjoy listening anymore. Even my Dad has progressed to classical music. The whinning/groaning songs about good ol' boys, prison, trucks, trains, women, and watermelon wine put me into an instant spiritual descent.
  15. I'd have to go for a drive in my car. Otherwise, I'd get too depressed. Kenny G is the least offensive of what you listed.
  16. It's interesting when Randy Weston songs appear, at random, on other albums than his own. I like to listen to Randy's version then compare to the other version. For example, Al Grey's Snap Your Fingers contains African Lady and Hi-Fly. Randy Weston wrote Hi-Fly and Melba Liston wrote African Lady. Another version of Hi-Fly is on Cannoball Adderley's Quintet In San Francisco. Cannonball mentions Weston's name during an introduction, if I remember correctly. Also, there is a version of Weston's Cry Me Not on Freddie Hubbards's Hub Cap. These songs are all performed by Randy on the Randy Weston Select.
  17. This set has grown to my liking more than I had expected. When in the right mood, nothing fills the space like Randy Weston. I enjoy his strong, quirky piano and the big-space sound of his compositons. More discussion here: http://www.organissimo.org/forum/index.php?showtopic=1626

    March 1st RVG

I disagree. The letter 'S' reminds me of Saddam.
  19. Pete LaRoca - Basra
  20. I have a few of the non Blue Note RVGs. I suppose they don't count?
  21. Jeeesus, Jeeeesus, Jeeeeeeeeeesus. Jesus left Chicago. He's on his way down, down, down to New Orleans. B-)
  22. No jazz? Gimme the funk. Without jazz, would there be any funk?
  23. No one on this board is that strong.
  24. You can go here and download the Hijack This program. Run it and get the log it creates. Post the log in the forums located here. I don't know how to read the log well. The people on this forum, however, are fixing many types of malware problems by giving directions based on the Hijack This log.
