  1. Just found Macy Gray's first album in a cut-out bin for $2. Not half bad (especially at that price).
  2. OK, I'm finally pulling the trigger on this one. Should be in my mailbox early next week. My wife and I have some roadtrips planned for May and June, and I thought it'd be good to get some new tunes for the car. R&B ain't something we have a whole bunch of, let alone much neo-soul (try "none", come to think of it). But if Sangry says it's that good, how can you argue with that!!
  3. How much for domestic shipping (to a US address)??
  4. She's right. Everything is in how you name an issue, and/or how you frame it (in conjuction with a good name). That's the whole ball of wax, right there.
  5. So, is/was "the tenticales" one's only hope of ever getting this thing?? Dusty still says "Spring 2006".
  6. If I ever won the lottery BIG, I'd try to keep it a secret. Might buy a new car, but it'd be something like a Prius. Sure wouldn't move into a bigger house. (But I sure would buy a shitload of OOP music off eBay. ) I'd imagine that among those that are REALLY rich, the ones who hide it best are the happiest.
  7. Excepting bonus material and such, have most of the original albums from this set each come out as individual CD releases (domestic, a.k.a. in the US) over the years? I'm so NOT on top of this material, it's not even funny. I really don't have very much Kirk ( two or three discs at most ), but have mostly liked what I've heard over the years. Like I said, tempting...
  8. http://www.repriserecords.com/ - then click on "wbjazz" from the bottom of the page. Or here it is directly... http://www.wbjazz.com/ (Don't click on any of the links you find there while you're at work (unless you're self employed ), although if you do - you'll see they're all really accessable through the "wbjazz" URL.) Edit: Looks like it hadn't been updated since about 2003...
  9. Kevin Spacey looked like the biggest draw for me. Coin toss as to whether I'd see it or not.
  10. Maybe kind of a boring question (among the other great discussion), but... I'm always interested in what non-jazz music that musicians have been inspired by over the years, particularly classical composers/music. Not necessarily influences (though that would certainly be interesting), but simply what floats their boat. Specific works and/or specific composers.
  11. I've heard there's another album (studio) but largly the same group, though the feedback I've heard about it has not been very good. (I'm told there's vocals on the other album.)
  12. Anybody know where 'Peacock Alley' was in St. Louis?? Would love to look up the address on Google Maps. (I'm originally from near St. Louis.) Thanks!!
  13. Funky Donkey was the first thing I thought of to post about, and I see you beat me to it. Worth another mention, though. Absolutely funky groove + avant-garde. PLUS, having been recorded (and live, no less - and in a CHURCH!! ), in or about 1973 -- this is proto avant-funk, if ever there was!! (At least in terms of having a James Brown-type groove goin' on.) Dorky cover, but the music is sublime.
  14. On the fence. Hadn't planned on going, but reading most of the press coverage, I'm somewhat tempted. Probably not for a month or two, though.
  15. Not exactly what you're looking for, but this is one of the worst sounding modern studio recordings I've ever heard.
  16. Hey, Paul, I can buy you lunch for your birthday sometime. Let me know if your birthday happens to fall on any of these days (Mondays are best for me)... May 8th, May 15th, May 22nd, or any of the first three Mondays in June. Some Tuesdays might work as well, but it'd be helpful if I knew at least a few days in advance if a Tuesday was gonna be on your birthday. How much advance notice do you even have about these things?? (Or, alternately, if you already happen to have a list of your upcoming birthdays -- say, all of them through the end of June -- I could try and match them to my calendar, and see what'll work out.)
