  1. I was just going to post this. Sangry, you and I must be on the same mailing-lists. Very sorry to hear about Stubblefield's condition. I first heard him here, of all places... Larry Willis - Tribute to Someone (AudioQuest, 1993). The AMG has his birth date in 1945, so he's not yet even 60. -_-
  2. I sure like this one...
  3. Got an e-mail back from Hiroshi saying that he could try to get this one for me, but that it wasn't something he usually stocked. (I'm gonna check with my friend first, to see if Hiroshi's price is in line with what he was expecting.) Meanwhile, if anyone else here happens to have an extra, or would be interested in trading theirs, or has any more leads in general - I'd be most appreciative. Thanks!!

  12. Howdy all. A friend of mine is trying to track down a new (or used) copy of Art Blakey's "Ugetsu" - and he's specifically looking for the Japanese 20-bit mastering of this title. Anyone here know where I can find one, or anyone here maybe have one to offer?? Thanks!!
  13. Same question I have.

  15. If I ever start a band, this will be the name! FWIW, I used to describe Sun Ra's more 'out there' stuff as being like a high-school marching band on a collective acid trip.
  16. This one is a good one...
  17. Well, jazzshrink... How about one disc each by Eddie Henderson, and Denny Zeitlin. /a half-serious suggestion

  20. Have no idea what she's up to these days, but I happen to own one of those Rebecca Coupe Franks CD's (cover is pictured below, but no AMG review, unfortunately). It certainly is a mighty fine date (got it for $1 at a radio-station promo CD sale), and I would welcome the chance to hear Franks in other contexts, or further albums from her. EDIT: FYI, both of Rebecca Coupe Franks' CD's are available from half.com, for pennies on the dollar. I haven't heard "All Of A Sudden", but her other disc ("Suit Of Armor") is well worth picking up, especially for less than $5. Get on it!!! EDIT2: There are audio-samples of both her albums on the AMG, HERE and HERE. (At least there appear to be. I can't get the samples to play, can anybody else???)
  21. Not me. I've got all the metal-spine versions, and I'm sticking with them. The only drawbacks are that occasionally it's pretty hard to read the text of the liner-notes (when the background color nearly matches the color of the text, for a few words here and there). But, other than that, I'm pretty happy with them. The only positives I see about the new versions is that the liner-notes look to be quite a bit easier to read. But, I'm firmly in the camp that prefers box-sets to be made up of a bunch of jewel-boxes, or some kind of packaging that lets me file the box in with the rest of my CD's*. (Meaning they're not more than one inch taller than the height of a standard jewel-box.) These new Miles boxes, like the Herbie BN box, are a real pain in the ass -- as far as how you go about filing them. * For the record, this DOESN'T mean I like the Bill Evans Complete Verve packaging. But the metal-spine Miles boxes aren't nearly that bad.
