  1. Maybe they should consider moving into Politics.
  2. Weren't the edits very tiny (less than 2 minutes total), or something like that?? Couple early fade-outs, and maybe a couple vamps that were trimmed a bit. I never got the impression that this album was cut up badly by the editting to get it all on one CD. (But then again, I've never heard the LP's.)
  3. Most of the Elvin mosaic is highly interesting and entertaining. Can't remember exactly how many original albums it contains (I'm guessing about 9 studio albums, and the two live albums). If I remember right, about 7 of those 9 studio albums are incredible (and only the last two studio dates are somewhat less interesting, and occasionally even cheesy). And the live material is fantastic. Haven't listened to the Elvin box in quite a while, I should give it a spin this week. The one date with Lee Morgan (in a piano-less context!!) is pretty darn cool.
  4. Would be interesting to see the complete list of names. I can't imagine the actual dollar amounts (broken down by artist) would be posted on their web-site(s), though that'd be very interesting to see too. If anybody stumbled across the complete list(s), please post the link(s) here. I'll keep my eyes out too.
  5. Can't comment on the sound quality issues, but I would also say that getting the IASW box would be well worth your while. The "previously unreleased" material is quite good (IMHO) -- and more interesting (for instance) than many of the previously unreleased tracks from the Complete Bitches Brew box. The two tracks I'm thinking of, in particular, are "The Ghetto Walk" and "Early Minor", which are both very cool. B) (And collectively, these two tracks alone are as long (time-wise) as the entire original IASW album. And how it is that they've never been released before now, is kind of surprising - if you ask me.) Also, the original material related to the IASW album specifically (full takes, and alternates) is quite interesting to hear in its full context. You might want to check out the AMG review of this set, which is pretty detailed: CLICK HERE. -- Rooster T.
  6. It shouldn't (if I remember right). I don't have the TOCJ or JRVG (never heard the date before, actually), but I remember looking this one up in my complete BN discography once - and there were no alternates nor extra tunes recorded at this date.
  7. I mean the cover of the King (of the Hill). Not the session itself (which I like), but the King version of the cover (which I only just saw for the first time today, and which I don't think is all that hot).
  8. Anybody remember Softsong?? Or was it Strongsoft?? Anyway, she had a major bone to pick with everyone, about their 'tude. Yeah, I kinda miss the random weirdness that happened on the BNBB, but we have some of it here too, thankfully.
  9. I've always really liked these three covers, and wish they had been issued on CD somewhere (TOCJ or US), with their original King covers...
  10. By the way, I sure the heck hope they DON'T use this cover for the Conn. And I'm sure they probably won't. There are a few of those Japanese King covers that I really do like, but the King of the Hill is pretty much a looser in my book.
  11. Just got this in the e-mail a few moments ago. (I had actually placed a bid, but only for $1.89. Last I checked, the bidding was only up to $6 or so.) FYI...
  12. Yeah, I've never liked that pic of Hill either. And why the hell that's the AMG bio-pic for Hill, I'll never know!!!
  13. If you can't find one otherwise, there's a record store here in KC that never sends back their unsold copies. I think they've got 75% of the issues from the last 6 months or so, and probably the one you're looking for. (They have a smattering of issues going back about a year. I think maybe the much older issues (from last year) just 'walk' out the door, over time, if you know what I mean.) Hollar if you need me to pick it up for you, and send it your way. EDIT: Looks like you got it covered from 7/4.
  14. I've only got Volume 1, but I do have the smaller-footprint BN cover book that came out recently. (So perhaps I have seen a few of these before, but not more than maybe just once -- and I sure don't remember any of these that I've posted in this thread.)
  15. Somebody in Seatle help Jim out. My wife and I were there last June, and found "$5 off" coupons for the EMP. Took the sting off the $20 ticket price ($15 was easier to swallow), and it really was worth it. We were seriously NOT gonna go, since $20 seemed pretty steep to me -- but I'm really glad we went. You get these interactive museum "electronic docent" things, with headphones -- and you can get expanded explainations about literally probably 1,000 things in the museum. Jim, make sure you budget at least 3 or 4 hours for the EMP. We were there about 3 hours, and I could have probably spent the whole day there (though my wife was 'done' at three hours). Their Hendrix exhibit was very cool. I used to be a Hendrix nut (when I was in high-school), and there was a whole bunch of Hendrix stuff/info/artifacts at the EMP, that I was only vaguely aware of. I probably spent at least an hour in the Hendrix area alone. Again: Can somebody get Jim a few of those "$5 off" coupons??? We found them in the back of some local free guidebook, that I think we might have picked up from among the hundreds of brochures that were in a rack at the Seattle Aquarium. It was a kind of thick book, about the size of a Cadence mag (4 inches by 6 inches, maybe). Jim, it's expensive, but it's worth it. Oh, the food in the EMP restaurant was very expensive, so you might plan to try to eat somewhere else. It was good, but pretty darn pricey. (I'm sure you can get your hand stamped, and come back - or something like that.)
  16. Anybody got their complete BN discography handy?? (Mine's buried in boxes, as we're redoing our library.) Who's on the bonus material from the "LA Philharmonic" date?? Any vocalists?? When was it recorded, relative to the "Now!" sessions. Off to see if I can find any of this info on the AMG, thought their info is often spotty for Various Artists kinds of releases, especially vinyl-only stuff from the 70's. (Or thanks in advance, if any body can provide the session info for me.) EDIT: Not much in the AMG. Just the tracks, really, and the fact it was released in 1978. 2. Slow Change performed by Bobby Hutcherson 3. Now performed by Bobby Hutcherson 4. Hello to the Wind performed by Bobby Hutcherson 5. Now (Reprise) performed by Bobby Hutcherson
  17. I've said it before re: Blue Note: WM vs. Norah --- WM vs. Van Morrison --- WM vs. Prince, etc... And although I'm definitely half kidding, I'm also half serious.
  18. No shit!!!
  19. Keep those covers commin', guys. Wish there were more source pics of Andrew from the 60's, to use in proposed covers.
  20. Yeah, the Rivers is really the best of the whole bunch -- much as I personally like the Hill and Young dates. For all of you who want the Ervin/Shaw date, which one of the six Conn titles announced in this thread, would you be willing to do without in October, in order to get it???????? (Meaning, to get "Back from the Gig" in Oct., we gotta give up one of the other six.) For me, it'd probably be "Now!". Or maybe the Silver, but that seems like a lock, since it's been in the pipeline for something like 6 months now (and I'm sure they won't back off on it now).
  21. EDIT: Love how you lined up all the "H" letters, Jeff, in the title. Nice touch!! B)
  22. Pretty much what Jim just said. Some Prince is great, some less that great. But I've heard fair bit of bootleg material, and some of it is DAMN fine. I'd sample it first, and there's an 'OK' chance I'd buy it, sure. (There's just as much chance I wouldn't buy it either.) BUT, it wouldn't bother me being on Blue Note, and would probably bother me less than WM being on BN.
  23. Were there any other TOCJ CD covers that were unique to Japan?? Like this one??
  24. Haven't heard but the three full-length tracks available from the BN website. They pretty much make my skin crawl, to put it kindly. OK, maybe they're not as bad as that. BUT, compared to how good they try to be, vs. how good they actually are..... .....they really do go nowhere fast. I think Spontoonious has a promo of this one, if I remember right. Hafta borrow his copy, so I can rag on the whole album with more authority.
