  1. Hadn't heard this before I stumbled on it today... Various obits... http://www.guardian.co.uk/arts/news/obitua...,980434,00.html http://www.vervemusicgroup.com/buzz_d.asp?bid=184 http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/main.jhtml...6/17/db1702.xml http://www.jazztimes.com/JazzNews/XcNewsPl...&articleid=1005 http://www.fortwayne.com/mld/inquirer/news...ies/6107848.htm R.I.P.
  2. Thanks for the update, Bertrand. In another thread, I had proposed the name "Tomorrow is Now!!", but had more recently heard from Kevin that Andrew favored "Passing Ships". Call it anything, for all I care - I'm practically counting the days until this comes out. Can't wait to hear it!!!!
  3. Will file a full report upon my return. Also, I plan to ask Hill a few questions after the show, if I'm lucky enough to get access to him. Among the things I'll ask is his thoughts on the upcoming "Passing Ships"/"Tomorrow is Now!!" sessions from 1969. I can't wait for October to get here!!!
  4. Just got on the horn, and called some friends - and found a friend of a friend who's all excited about going. If anybody else wants to go too, I'm glad to drive --- but now the plan is to drive up on Sunday morning, stay in a hotel on Sunday night, and drive back to Kansas City on Monday morning. If fact, he's going to ask a buddy of his, who he thinks might want to go to. Should be fun!!
  5. I've used Paypal for probably 50+ transactions over the past two years, with no problems. I've never been able to accept credit card payments from them, because I refuse to give them my bank account numbers. Little trick that might be good to know. When you first sign-up with their basic "free" account, they give you only a $1,000 spending limit on your credit card. Then, when you get down around $200 or so, they start bombarding you with e-mail saying that you gotta upgrade your account in order to raise your spending limit. Well, I kept spending and got all the way down to a spending limit of less than $100. Shortly after that, my spending limit suddenly was reset back to $1,000 - through no effort on my part. To this day, I still haven't upgraded my account, but I haven't burned through the 2nd "$1,000" credit limit yet, so I don't know if it will happen again. But my guess is that when you get down to less than $100, they bump it back up again - so they don't loose you as a customer. Anybody have a similar experience, by any chance???
  6. I think "the drill" that Dan mentions will take care of that... I was out of town the last time, so maybe Dan or someone could go over the drill again???
  7. Every once in a while, Google's "image search" function is the highlight of my day!!!
  8. How about targeting the more middle-age set???
  9. Could save even more by hiring just two angels...
  10. Angels in training, with their own Bosley...
  11. Or this trio (although they might have cost a bit more than the other examples given so far. )
  12. Just think how much they could have saved if they had only hired this trio instead...
  13. Afraid I didn't, but sounds interesting!
  14. I've seen straight alto saxes before, but never a straight tenor, until today!! (straight tenor on top, alto on bottom)
  15. Here's a somewhat rare straight (meaning not all folded up like a bassoon) contrabass clarinet. (The one on the right)...
  16. OK, this isn't that weird, but I sure wish it was used more in jazz. I love bass clarinet, but often think it's pitched a little lower than I'd like it to be. The standard Bb clarinet is often too high for my tastes. So, then, I give you the beloved (but often forgotten) Alto Clarinet...
  17. And here is a clip (http://www.contrabass.com/sounds/Stardust.mp3) of Randy Emerick on Tubax, playing Stardust (with the Jerry Fischer Orchestra, Hollywood FL, Mike Lewis, Arranger). Enjoy! God damn, that's low!!!!!!
  18. There are some great samples of the Tubax (basically a contrabass saxophone) at this site: http://eppelsheim.com/eppelsheim-blasinstrumente.html Click on "English" from the opening page, then click on "Recordings" on the lower left-hand corner of the main page, and select "Tubax". Three tune samples to pick from, the first one is the best (IMHO), but all three are cool as hell. B) B) B)
  19. The Tubax, which has the same pitch-range as a contrabass sax, but is physically smaller. And here's a real, honest-to-god, Contrabass Sax. God damn, how heavy is it?????? "This saxophone is about 6'9" tall and it weighs about 45 pounds." (source) Probably easier to play the world's smallest saxophone, the Bb 'Soprillo', which I think is one octave higher than a standard Soprano sax.
