  1. OK, FrankC, you must report back to the class about this one... I want a 500-word review, double-spaced, with no whiteout, on clean, unfolded paper --- on my desk within the next two weeks, or you're on detention for a month. undergroundagent, appreciate you sending this CD to FrankC expeditiously, so he has no excuses to delay in reporting back to us on his fortunate musical acquisition.
  2. Hey, I'm a devout agnostic!!
  3. Haven't seen it, as we're too cheap to get anything other than just basic cable. But I loved Sports Night (I understand the same actor, Peter Krause, who is the lead(?) in Six Feet Under was one of the leads in Sports Night), and hope to see it someday, perhaps as a rental on DVD??? Don't know anything about it, though. Do tell!!!
  4. This is a quote from another thread... Dan, I think I might be regarded as somewhat of a music insider, but I have no idea who "Musicboy" is. I know there was some kind of controversy involving him here, recently, but I missed it. I gather that he is obnoxious, but that does not narrow the field much when it comes to the music industry--who is he? This came up in another thread, and rather than derail that thread with an explaination about who Musicboy was, I decided to start another thread. The name "Musicboy" gets thrown around the board quite a bit, and some people are asking who he is - people who either are new, or people who never saw the only one or two threads that he ever posted in. That's why. Hope that's OK...
  5. Here are some links (below) to some of Musicboy's best posts..... 1. organissimo.org is a Haven for anti-Christian biggots 2. I'll be looking for anything here that violates the Child internet protection act 3. I'm running out of patience with this site. It is now bordering on violating my civil rights as a Christian. I'm thinking about having it shut down completely on that basis alone, because the moderators refuse to respect anyone's beliefs. This is No longer a norahjones.info issue now. I'm thinking this is getting personal, so maybe the dept of Justice would like to see some of the hate speech that's going on here? Keep it up boys. I got all day for the next month to deal with it. If the band don't care about us, why would we be worried about their fate? I wasn't making threats. I don't do threats, I always follow through when people attack me or my beliefs. I just do it under the law. So, if you want to keep playing big shot with me.. That's your choice. My religion is Christian. & you are now personally offending me, & others. I'm recording all of this, because If I need to go to the DOJ with it, I will. 4. I have no quarrel with the band, other than the fact they seem to think anything is permissible on their message boards, even when it breaks laws. Now people are getting hateful towards Christians here. I have plenty of proof logged, & I've matched up a few IP's & e-mails.
  6. Phil Grenadier: "Playful Intentions" - Featuring: Phil Grenadier (tp), Kurt Rosenwinkel (g), Bill Carrothers (p), Larry Grenadier (ba), Jeff Ballard (d) OH MY GOD - "Playful Intentions" was already on my "buy it soon" list, but I didn't realize until just this very moment that none other than my favorite "currently active pianist that nobody's ever heard of", Bill Carrothers, is on this one too!!!! Hey Phil, how'd you hook up with Carrothers???? He's on several albums I simply love, and I think he is a way-underrated player. Kudos for what looks like a great line-up, and I can't wait to hear this one!!! FYI, Carrothers is a sideman on albums by Scott Colley, Dave Douglas, and both of Bill Stewart's releases on good ol' BN, plus Bill has a number of fine (but unfortunately obscure) albums under his own leadership. I don't have all of them (yet), but they're all listed at his homepage: Bill Carrothers' homepage (link)
  7. I love the carousel sequence at the end of "Strangers on a Train". Simply some of the best suspenseful movie-making in the whole history of cinema. I'm pretty sure that "Strangers on a Train" is my favorite 'black and white' Hitchcock movie. Haven't seen it in 10 years, but I remember it pretty well even today. Maybe not the specific plot, but much of the visual imagery is still pretty clear in my mind, even a decade later.
  8. Well, I did think of one other Joe release, and it's the only one that's ever left me cold. -_- AMG: Porgy and Bess It's not that Joe's playing is bad, but I just never could get into this disc, no matter how hard I tried. I think I traded it back a couple years after I got it - I'd have to look. In any case, this is the one Joe Henderson disc I haven't cared all that much for.
  9. For your own safety, I beg of you, please do NOT click Yatta!!
  10. Make absolutely sure you fasten your seatbelt before you click HERE!!!!
  11. Sure thing, Dmitry, sounds great!! Hey, can you swing by and get me?? - my car's in the shop this week. I live in midtown Kansas City, but if you want - I can meet you at someplace easier to find then my house. Do you know where "The Corner" restaurant is, at Broadway and Westport Road?? (Across from the bank.) Or how about near 39th & State Line Rd. (at that great Vietnamese restaurant next to the used book store - you know, the one across from the coffee house)?? Or, I can PM you with the address where I live, if you don't mind picking me up at home. Thanks!!!! - Looking forward to the show!!! Oh, what time did you want to meet to pick me up??? -- Rooster T.
  12. Plus, and most importantly, 11 isn't 16...
  13. Good thing that 18 is leading in this poll, and not 16 - cuz I think you know from my post in the '1-10' thread my thoughts on 6. And my thoughts on 16 aren't much different. But just in case anybody doubts me, I'll take on every one of you people that voted for 16 if I have to. Not with fists, but with words. Words have power, and don't think I don't have the power of words. People will know about your 6 and 16 ways, and then they can make up their own minds about what they want to think. And if the band Organissimo wants to have that hanging over their careers from this board, then that's their choice. The power I have with words will be to use your own words against you - your words about the numbers 6 and 16 that show how you hate the other numbers that are loved the world over. Any more voting for 16 and I will be forced to get a court order to find out who voted for which numbers, in all the polls, so that the 6 people and the 16 people can't hide any more. You think I can't do it, but I can. Once you vote, the board software knows you voted - cuz it won't let you vote again. And if it knows you voted, it knows how you voted - and if I have to - I will bring you 6 people, and you 16 people out where the world can see you for who you are. See how you like that, before you go voting for numbers that have implications to them outside of your precious little board. I'm thinking about what I can do to the people who set up these polls, so that innocent children can vote for any number they like, without any kind of warning. Who included 6 and 16 in these polls?? And who set up the board softward to even allow 6 and 16 as choices in polls like this. I want answers, and I'll do what I have to, to get them. You have been warned, but not threatened, because this is just a promise.
  14. Oh, so then, you're saying you are one of those “6”sympathizers, huh??? The words that come to mind aren't fit to be typed. But if I so much as catch any of you '6' sickos over on the Norah board - I will not hesitate to take appropriate action. You may think of this as some sort of threat, but it’s only a threat if I say it’s a threat – and I’m not saying that it is a threat, or that it isn’t a threat. I’m just saying what I’m saying, you dig? And at this point, it’s just a promise that I’ll make good on if I’m forced to. So that doesn’t necessarily make it a threat, unless it is, but in this case it isn’t. And don’t think I’m not watching what goes on here, and not just in this thread either. I see that there’s ‘6’-lovers all over this board, and don’t think I don’t know there are, cuz there are, and I know there are. And you ‘16’-lovers in the “pick a number between 11 and 20” thread better watch out too, cuz you’re all the same as those that think ‘6’ is somehow an OK number - which, how could it be???? Now then, if you want to go back to being in favor of some decent numbers, like 4, or 7, or 1, or even 8 (just going to show that I can be a reasonable sort of guy), then maybe I won’t do the things that I might have to do if you keep forcing me to do them, which I might have to do. So there. I’ve said what I had to say, it’s all up to you now. But remember, I'll be watching, and I won't be the only ones either.
  15. I can't believe anyone voted for 6. I didn't vote for 4 (and nobody else has either), but I'll tell ya what - 4 is a hell of a lot better number than 6, any day of the week. Hell, 6 is ever worst than 10, and that's really saying something. Is there anyway to find out who voted for what?? - cuz I'd like to find those "6"-voters and given a good stern talking to. Geez - what the hell were they thinking!!!!!
  16. FYI, from one of the FAQ's, at one of the sites listed above... Can an IEM system feedback like conventional systems? The system cannot generate feedback because there is no open speaker which the microphone can feedback into. Is there a limiter? Yes - all Garwood systems incorporate a variable slope compressor / limiter system. So what happens if the engineer makes a mistake and overloads the input? The compressor / limiter system prevents sound levels exceeding the pre-set safety limit. This helps protect the wearer against sudden volume surges. With speakers in my ears, won't the level be louder? No. In fact the level will be lower. For a start, a lower listening level is possible because the audio signal is more precise. Secondly, for every user of in-ear monitoring, there is a reduction in the overall sound level generated on stage. This means that your monitor mix doesn't have to compete with the mixes of your fellow performers. Ironically, the result is a downward spiral of reducing volumes until you reach the absolute (as in the case of Rod Stewart) of no amplification whatsoever on stage. How can I control the volume? The discreet belt pack gives you complete control of the volume at all times.
  17. Well, 7 is 1.9129311827723891011991168395475 cubed, so what's your point???
  18. I would generally take Hub's comments about anything with a grain of salt. Seems like every interview I've read with him there have been a number of things he's said that made me go: . Can't cite anything specifically, but it seems he does have a creative memory - not that he's got a corner on that market, to be sure!!
  19. From Ike's own web-site (http://www.ikewillis.com)
  20. I don't play, but that would scare me too. Surely there must be some sort of protection against really loud amplification directly into the ear-piece, wouldn't you think??? Anybody ever use one of these before??
  21. Wow, another vote for Ike Willis!!!
  22. This is a 5-star title in my book, and a real bear to find (at least on CD). Includes some of the best "progressive-leaning" Woody Shaw on record, IMHO. I think it was either Chuck or Jim who described Natural Esssnse as being "Avant-Boogaloo", a description I think really fits. Well worth having for those who love the more progressive titles on BN in the mid-to-late 60's, and who also love the more butt-shakin' "soul-jazz" BN's of the 60's. If you love early 60's John Coltrane, and also love John Patton's late 60's work (especially Patton's "Boogaloo"), IMHO you need this title. No organ on this date, but any and all fans of Larry Young's more progressive work ("Mother Ship" for example) really need this title. Get it!!! - dig??? (No, undergroundagent didn't pay me to say any of that, although I have done business with him before, and he's an 'on the level' guy - at least in all the deals I've ever done with him.)
  23. Only good thing about Wal*Mart are their large CD cover images.....
  24. Thought of another one. My wife really likes Fiona Apple, and although I found her first album a little less meaty than I would have liked (although my wife really likes it) - I do really like her second album quite a bit, and I look forward to her future releases.
