    Sam Most : RIP

Don't know much of his work, but I've always liked the Mann/Most one on Bethlehem. r.i.p.
  3. That one had actually been in my mind when I had the initial idea for this thread ... but when I opened it a few hours later, I'd forgotten about it again ... good one! Actually I'm quite astonished about the number of covers that you all found, I didn't expect more than five or ten replies here.
  4. well, make that the cold-induced collective compulsory coughing disortder, then
  5. Yeah, one reason they don't need reproaching is that they seem to be polite enough to not fall for that silly collective compulsory coughing disorder (ha, one more c added, it's CCCD by now!)
  6. "Salome" was the first opera I ever bought on CD (the Karajan EMI GROC).
  7. It's what you get when you suffer from compulsory coughing disorder and Keef stops playing and leaves the stage ... but then I guess the beautiful micro-tonal-audience-participation-music would again be drowned out by the booing of the audience ... too bad really. Seems we'll never get to actually hear it!
  8. so you're all for micro-tonal-audience-participation-music?
  9. compost? I love the "Vier letzte Lieder" as sung by Lucia Popp.
  10. But he never a lesson with Ronnie Ross
  11. Nothing beats "Band of Gypsys" - but that's not what you're asking for "In the West" is indeed pretty darn good! I got the great vinyl release last year and haven't regretted it at all, even though most (or all) of the tracks are available elsewhere. And I guess the Winterland recordings are pretty darn good, too, though I've not really digested all that's in the box ... had the single disc before that.
  12. Faust I definitely want, and from what little I've heard, I'm interested in Amandine Beyer and Hélène Schmitt ... the others I all don't know yet.
  13. Okay, I thought with all the thumbs up here, there would be a complete recording ... What's the take on Monica Huggett? I just popped in the first disc as I'm typing this.
  14. Loved it, just ordered the CD. Thanks! Link please? I'm too dumb to find it ... all I see is this one: Or is that l there is? The other result amazon's super-smart tags give me is Midori Seiler's disc of the three partitas (did she do the sonatas, too?)
  15. .. and glad to report that for those who don't want to pay the bootleggers any, the internets is your friend (again) .
  16. And the new owners made it go belly-up even though it officially don't. Different cause, same effect
  17. Pretty good one, I think! There's a few others I'd sell before this, but it's been a while, and the entire run of albums from back then is fine in my ears! Took me a while to find all of them when Fantasy went belly-up ... and I'm still pissed about the missing track on that twofer!
  18. Speaking of suckers no one really asked for .... what the hell is this? at 400+ euro it's not quite a bargain (88 discs) - Karajan 70: the Complete DG Recordings Hm, wait, there's another one that's cheaper: Karajan 1970s Dg Recording - but that one says 82 disc - but then, who cares anyway ... I might go for some cheapo opera box (since most of the ones I've heard were a bit too sporty and a bit of a let-down, no matter what praise they seem to get ... so a cheapo set would make more sense than to keep trying with single releases). But in a box such as this, I've not the slightest interest. Give me K when he's conducting for a soloist such as Christian Ferras or when he's at the helm of the Vienna Mozart opera crew (but then again, I'd take Furtwängler each time, but Legge didn't, alas), but I guess that's about it for me.
  19. evil coffee from Nestlé and tap water
  20. same here (latest version of Opera) if I use the embed icon, it screws things up (or it did when I last attempted), but plain link always seems to work!
  21. Yes, got that one as well - very nice! Also got the ICON (great! My favorite Heifetz, for sure!) and two of the Sony cheapo sets, namely the Great Violin Concertos annd the Beethoven (parts of it are in the Heifetz/Piatgorsky and most - nearly all, I think - of the rest is in the recent sonatas box, which I've not bought ... but it makes more sense to get that one and maybe pass on the Beethoven, I think ...)
  22. Belated best wishes!
  23. Many of them ten inchers ... and most pretty good, some great. There's a long thread about the previous "original Vogue masters" series somewhere on the forums, but posting from the phone I'm not even thinking of looking for it right now. The box is very nicely done ... got it despite having most of what's been reissued "domestically" in the past dozen or so years.
