  1. yes, it´s unfortunatley only one track with lester "lester leaps in" with charlie shavers. but it´s not a few years since their last release. there was in january one with benny goodman from 1950: http://www.tcb.ch/news.cgi?list=month|id&a...2006&sort=r keep boppin´ marcel Didn't know that... they did plenty of BG releases, but I don't have any of them. Earlier they had the blue spine series, dedicated to BG (there was also a box). But since their discs are so expensive, I haven't checked out many of them.
  2. I gotta tell ya, this conjures images of an entirely different type of anal fun...
  3. I saw the CD last week, wasn't aware of this great series ("Swiss Radio Days") being continued, since it's been a few years since their last release... didn't have a closer look, as I don't need more OP (or Ella) and Pres isn't noted on the cover... so it's just one track with him? Will have to play it at a store to decide if I really need it...
  4. Nuff said! Nice one! And definitely legit (but watch the spelling!):
  5. I've smoked with my fair share of aliens. They seem to like to listen to Black Beauty at melting volumes, full f'ing blast. Pretty cool folks. So you were getting laid by aliens? You'll have to pity poor sevenfour and invite him over next time!
  6. The Zurich concert is out on Gambit also, and I wouldn't think Storyville sued them... anyway, these radio recordings are problematic, since the radio stations don't even really own them for release... I have both the Miles discs and they do look fine (and are great), but I still consider them boots...
  7. And the older transcriptions etc. issued by JU are not copyrighted in Europe any longer, so anyone can release them - question would be are they ok to be sold in the US. This makes me sound pretty catholic now... you know I am not bothered by the morals of this too much, my friend!
  8. Maybe, Agustín, but how do you explain their Miles Zurich 1960 bootleg (a radio recording), or their Miles compilation that contains the Newport "breakthrough" gig of Miles', as well as other radio recordings from Europe and the US? These are most certainly bootlegs, don't you think? Not sure if that applies to all their releases, but these and the Dizzy look plenty like boots to me!
  9. I don't have any of those, but half of a live gig from the US (Chester, Penn., I think) that has been released on the slightly doubtful Jazz Unlimited label (they're linked to a serious one, Storyville I think, but what they release are actually boots that just look a bit nicer, are better documented and include some nice liners, but they're still boots, I think). Here's the cover - great disc!
  10. Art Hodes please!
  11. One kid was doing the hippy dance with some serious skill...and he yelled at the band, between songs... "do something in seven!!" Then he was all over the place. ... ... screaming "I wanna get laid in seven!"
  12. I should be able to catch Stanko and the guys again in about two weeks! :-)
  13. [politics below... sorry, simply couldn't resist...]
  14. Just so there's no confusion, you're talking of this compilation of the three Verve 1957 big band albums, right? Soloists include Joe Grodon, Al Grey, Ernie Henry, Phil Woods, Billy Mitchell, Benny Golson, Wynton Kelly, Charli Persip is on drums throughout, arrangements are by ERnie Wilkins, Melba Listion, Tadd Dameron, A.K. Salim, Quincy and Dizzy... as for the vocals: 3 Dizzy ones (one with the band added) on CD1 (19 tracks), on disc two one track Diz/band, two tracks with some guy caled Austin Cromer (with the band, too), and one with a female singer, possibly Melba Liston. So vocals are no reason to keep you from buying this great set!
  15. No idea how much of it has vocals, but it's excellent... wait a minute, I'll go and look for it and will report back in a minute!
  16. They aren't European, but Cadence has always been the best option I've found for Venus discs. About $22 per disc - if you get enough, maybe shipping won't up that number by too much. Thanks! I may try them some day (I know they got a good reputation and all, but I think I only used them once or twice so far...). Still pretty steep 22$ a disc! (Is that US$ or Canadian$?)
  17. Working Man Blues - yes! To me it sounds much simpler and straighter (and more acoustic) than Love and Theft. I love both that one and Time out of Mind - can't compare them really, Time is much more about a specific (production-)sound and about moods, no? Love and Theft then has the organ and keys in which make it different from Dylan's live music (and allows the band to sound so great on the terrific Charlie Patton song). The new one is more straight, sounds almost like it could have been done in a day (I mean that in a good way).
  18. The thread title brought this to mind, first... looks funnier than the anal stuff above...
  19. Is there a good websource (non-japanese, favourably european) to get Venus discs from? I have one or two I found in sales bins, but usually they are not distributed here or if, sold for astronomic prizes, which I'm not prepared to pay. :-(
  20. Big anAl?
  21. Flora is what you get when you combine Flurin with fora. Now you're going ad hominem and I only wanted a pretense to show you a pic of my dear friend Flora...
  22. I agree. I usually insist on airmail deliveries because I've found them to be quicker and have never lost an item. Surface mail takes 4-6 weeks, and items get damaged even if you've double boxed and padded the item. With Mosaic/Trueblue I had the contrary experience. Once they "forgot" that I already sent in my payment (I had to provide and mail a photocopy of my money order - that was before I got the dreadful credit card) and then all they offered was shipping by air mail instead of overseas (which I had opted for). This resulted in me getting 50 discs with maybe 3 or 4 jewel cases that were not broken to pieces... lucky enough none of the big boxes ever arrived damaged... (I was worrying a bit after they started not to offer surface any longer).
  23. If I have the unfortunate chance of having to choose between listening to Truffaz or Marsalis, I'ld rather go with Wynton Truffaz bores me to death Hm, I can't say I'm an avid fan... I could do without Nya, for sure. Heard some live recordings that I found pretty nice, and as this package consists of two live sets... of his Blue Notes I only have one that I got in a sale. Muller is nice, though. I don't know if he has any discs out, but his trio stuff (all acoustic, yet with some rhythmical stuff that at times goes into almost drum'n'bass territory) is quite good - heard him twice on swiss radio.
  24. Excuse me, Mr. I-Took-Latin-In-High-School.
