  1. I support any combination of Yankee wins and losses that results in their 27th World Series victory. Up over and out.
  2. Up for consideration of the weekday crew. If no takers, I'll just crawl back into my Donaldson-less hole and live to fight another day. Either that or get Lou's phone number from Chewy and give him a call to see if he has any spare Mosaics laying around his crib. PLEASE NOTE THE ADDITION OF THE MILDRED BAILEY SET. Up over and out.
  3. Right here right now, I'll say it. Mistake to bring in Mo now. Up over and out.
  4. Looks like Girardi made the right call. Pettitte was clearly gassed after giving up that rope that Swisher extinguished and then the single to Rivera. Hopefully, they'll get enough out of Chamberlain to get them to Mo. Onto a totally unrelated bit of baseball news, Mark McGwire will be the Cardinals new hitting coach, replacing Hal McRae who was fired. Interesting. Up over and out.
  5. Something of an easy listening / lounge pioneer, Kaempfert also had some marginal involvement with The Beatles when they were in Hamburg. As Walt Disney says, "it's a small world after all." I think his biggest hit was Wonderland By Night. Up over and out.
  6. I would be willing to trade any of the following or a combination thereof, straight across for the Lou Donaldson Mosaic. Let me know if you are interested. All the sets listed below are in near mint condition; box, booklet and discs. #142 The Complete CBS Studio Recordings of Woody Shaw (3 CDs) #154 The Complete February 1957 Jimmy Smith Blue Note Sessions (3 CDs) #165 The Complete Illinois Jacquet Sessions 1945-50 (4 CDs) #185 Kenton Presents: Bob Cooper, Bill Holman & Frank Rosolino (4 CDs) #196 The Complete Capitol Recordings of Woody Herman (6 CDs) #213 Classic Columbia And OKeh Joe Venuti And Eddie Lang Sessions (8 CDs) #217 The Complete Brunswick & Vocalion Recordings Of Louis Prima And Wingy Manone 1924-1937 (6 CDs) #204 The Complete Columbia Recordings of Mildred Bailey (10 CDs) Up over and out.
  7. I'm wondering if the Angels go all in and start John Lackey tomorrow night on three days rest? I'm also worried about a game seven screwing up the rotation if the Yanks end up winning. If Sabbathia has to throw on Monday, and assuming there aren't any weather delays, this would limit him to two starts in the Series. C'mon Andy Pettitte. We need one of those lock down playoff gems from you on Sunday night. Up over and out.
  8. Although shuttered many years ago, when I first started buying records here in Portland, I did so at the Long Hair Music Faucet. It was the first place I ever saw English pressings of LP's. They were outrageously priced between $5.95 and $6.95. Up over and out.
  9. Hoo ranh, hoo ranh. A genuinely funny guy who was, in fact, a big jazz fan. If I recall correctly, one of the few films of Clifford Brown that exists was taken from an appearance on one of his shows. The Soupy Sales Show was kind of like a Jurassic version of Pee Wee's Playhouse. Who can ever forget the "nut at the door" segment on his birthday when he opened the door and was confronted by a naked lady. Here's a clip from YouTube. Be sure to stay with it until the 2:30 mark. All this was done live, BTW. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NdUD4giJPOk Up over and out.
  10. Boy, do I hear you. I've got lots of friends who will rejoice in the opportunity to remind me of 2004. I really wanted the Yanks to wind this up tonight and have a few days to get their house in order before next Wednesday. Not gonna happen. Let's hope A.P. has his game face on Saturday night. Another 10-1 Yankee blowout would be most welcome. Up over and out.
  11. WHY ISN'T ERIC HINSKE ON THE POST SEASON ROSTER? I LOVE SWISHER, BUT HE'S COLDER THAN A WEDGE. Up over and out.
  12. Let's hope a second comeback is in the cards. I have no idea what Girardi is thinking. I wouldn't have had Burnett in after the 6th at all. Start your countdown to Mo. Probably go with Hughes even though he's been ineffective, followed by Chamberlain, who hasn't been any better, and hopefully that gets you to Rivera. Marte. Where does he fit in? Joe must be consulting the same book he used when he gave away the game the other night. I much prefer grizzled old guys with tobacco juice running down their chins making the decisions. I'm afraid Joe is about to over manage his way to another loss. Up over and out.
  13. Horse gone...Bud says time to close the barn door. http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/playoffs/200...tory?id=4586645 Up over and out.
  14. Totally agree with you there, however I would add this one as essential if you're a "Revolution in the Head" fan, it's just as much as an eye opener. Cliff, According to Amazon's website, this book will not be available in the U.S. until June of next year but is currently available from Amazon.uk. Wonder what's up with that? At any rate, and more to the point, here's an interesting review of the Doggett book. Also mentioned therein are plans for a three volume biography by Mark Lewisohn that will begin in 2011. I must say, that sounds intriguing. http://www.independent.co.uk/arts-entertai...tt-1792698.html Up over and out.
  15. He's a regular David Letterman, that guy. Too bad. I liked him as a baseball analyst. I liked Harold Reynolds too. Why is it guys like this can't keep it in their pants? He's got a wife and three kids for cryin' out loud. I would imagine we've seen the last of Mr. Phillips. ESPN needs to hire more guys like Jon Kruk. Up over and out.
  16. You gotta love the first line in that ESPN article. "The worst umpiring job at an Angel's game since Leslie Nielson in The Naked Gun". Up over and out.
  17. Jim, If you go to the emergency room at your local hospital, it's a pro bono situation, i.e. they have to treat you. If this is serious enough, and it sounds to me like it is, I'd consider that course of action. Up over and out.
  18. Ghost, I absolutely agree. I'm reading Revolution right now. As much as I'm enjoying it, I really wish I knew more about music. All its talk of chord progressions, structure, middle eights etc. goes right over my head. One other minor nit pick. When a book is as fully annotated as this, I wish there was a better was of indicating the references other than by the use of tiny little numbers. Even if they bolded the numbers it would make it easier to keep track. Back to the subject at hand, these two books are clearly targeting the Beatles fan who has everything, plus a fair amount of disposable income. Up over and out.

  20. This is going to sound like a really stupid question, but have you seen a dermatologist? Up over and out.
  21. I remember that show. The host wasn't the Simpson lawyer, it was Mark Furman, the bloody glove LAPD dectective. Up over and out.
  22. I'll call you and raise. Why did Girardi remove David Robertson, who was pitching very effectively, and replace him with Alfredo Aceves with two outs in the bottom of the 11th? That makes no sense. Up over and out
  23. Captain Lou was quite the colorful guy back in the day. That was long before the WWF or WWE or whatever it is now became such a gigantic joke. I remember the WWF version of the Tonight Show show called Tuesday Night Titans. It was hosted by Vince McMahon and his sidekick was Lord Alfred Hayes. Albano was a regular guest. RIP big fella. Up over and out.
  24. Brad, I wholeheartedly agree. According to Tim McCarver, vicinity calls at second base reflect a rule stretching nod towards protecting the man making the pivot. OK, fine. However, if Eric Aybar is, as Mike Scioscia suggests, the best defensive "5" in either league, then perhaps his "sleight of foot" skill around the bag represents one of the arrows in his quiver. The only other aspect of rule enforcement that comes as close to this "look away" aspect of baseball, is the game in, game out redefinition of the strike zone. I say play ball, but play it by the rules. Also, did anyone else find it interesting last night when the boys in the booth illustrated the decrease in velocity that takes place between the time a pitcher releases the ball, and when it reaches the batter? The example they used showed a 7 MPH differential, 93 versus 86. I had never looked at it this way. Up over and out.
  25. Whoop de friggin' do. That was a nice win. I don't know if there's some old time Yankee mojo at work here, but the Angels are definitely not playing Angel baseball. I've got a 1996, 1997 feel about this 2009 team. I'm also smart enough to know that this series is far from over. Where's Dan? It's not nearly as much fun to gloat when he's not in the mix. Up over and out.
