Greatest Alec Baldwin Performance
Dave James replied to Dan Gould's topic in Miscellaneous - Non-Political
I think the best thing about Alec Baldwin is that he's learned not to take himself too seriously, much in the manner of William Shatner. Up over and out. -
If this thread goes on much longer, we'll all have spent more time reading about the Bixieland launch than we will have reading his posts. Up over and out.

I live in the craft beer capital of the world. Be happy with your lot. I was but a thrall to the Siren song of specialty swill for years until I realized what was happening to me. Hefeweizens, Bocks, Porters, Pale Ales, IPA's and the like can cause you to lose track of what's really important. Make mine a Pabst Blue Ribbon any day of the week. Up over and out.

Yanks are 7-0 against the Twins this year. Up over and out.

If this is a song of celebration, the only thing I can think of to celebrate is that I have a pause button on my computer. Who knew Harry Dean Stanton was so talented? Up over and out.

I'm not sure it's possible to get much cheesier than this. The fact Gibson would be a party to this charade does not speak well of them. Hendrix must be spinning in his grave. Up over and out.

I thought several of Bixieland's political posts were highly inappropriate. Some fairly accusatory Nazi related stuff as I recall. I'm not much in favor of censorship, but as others have said, this is Jim's world, we just live in it. Up over and out.

I wonder what's up with the unissued Johnny Hodges dates? We're they on any of those Verve twofers that came out about ten years back? I'd sure like to hear 'em. Up over and out.

I've always liked the idea of a skinny Jim Carrey playing Chet Baker. Up over and out.

Beltre has been such a disappointment that resigning him would represent a commitment to mediocrity. If the M's are going to move ahead, it's time to cut ties with guys like this Up over and out.

I guess performing a kind of aural psychoanalysis with respect to why one is attracted to the music of one's youth may have some benefit, but for me, I like listening to the Beatles or others from that era is simply because I like to listen to it. For me, it's no more complicated than that. It was good music then; it's good music now. There's no reason to drill any deeper. Then again, I was the one in my college lit course who insisted that Moby Dick was a story about a whale and that anyone who thought differently was unnecessarlly complicating their life. I was moving my music from one room to another today and came across a copy of the Dead playing with Ornette Coleman at the L.A. Sports Arena in December of 1993. Pretty interesting stuff. Has anyone else heard this? My copy is a CDR and the music is, apparently, unreleased. Up over and out.

The other evening, I came across a couple of cuts from The Hollies' mid-70's release, Russian Roulette. They sounded pretty good to me so I did a little research and found that this is considered to be one of their better recordings. Anyone familiar with it? Up over and out.

Cool. Up over and out. -
Oops. Got my Dukes screwed up. It's Jordan, not Pearson. I've been spending too much time reading the Bad News From Mosaic thread. Thanks Lon. Up over and out.

I downloaded Pearson's Les Liaisons Dangereuses from eMusic awhile back. Not sure what that means, but I thought I'd throw it out there. Up over and out.

The box set includes a fairly detailed band "family tree", but I am unable to find a bassist by the name of Frankie Allen. Calvert was with the group until 1981 and was replaced by Steve Stroud and then by Ray Stiles who, at least up until the point the box was issued in 2003, remained with the band. Up over and out.

An interesting band to say the least. I bought the group's box set, The Long Road Home thinking that with all the great singles they did, there would have to be a fair number of hidden gems just awaiting discovery. Well, as it turns out, not so much. This truly was a singles band in the mold of the Dave Clark Five, The Searchers and probably a number of others that escape recollection right now. Still, they did what they did do very well. I'm with Dan, Long Cool Woman In A Black Dress gets me every time. Bus Stop and Carrie Ann run it a close second. On the other hand, if I never hear He Ain't Heavy again, that'll be fine with me. Up over and out.

The Mosaic website has been updated to provide projected arrival dates for the boxes that have been on back order. The Johnny Smith, Jazz Crusaders and Lester Young sets are now expected back in stock by mid to late October. The Benedetti Parker not until 2010. Everything else in November. Unless you've had your eye on just the Parker set, this is good news. Up over and out.

I've been "in the Vault" for several years and I've downloaded a few concerts along the way, but I've often wondered how they decide which shows would be made available. The fact that they've lifted the lid entirely is really good news, not wallet-wise, but musically. Anyone who hasn't had a look at what they have available, a list to which they are adding all the time, needs to go in and poke around. It's quite remarkable. Up over and out.

My understanding with regard to Farrell's contract is that it allows some wiggle room if he's presented with an opportunity to manage. Another interesting factoid is that he make his off-season home in Cleveland. If the Sux staff continues to give up runs in bundles like they have lately (they're down 9-0 to Toronto as we speak) maybe they'd be better off getting rid of him. Obviously, he can't coach. Up over and out.

I never worked with Cindy personally, but it sounds like she was first chair all the way. Someone who has had dealings with her should send her a link to this thread. I'm sure she'd appreciate all the good thoughts that have been expressed here. Up over and out.
