  1. If I was a St. Louis fan right now, I'd be having a fit. First the Alphonse and Gaston act in left field and now the throwing error on the pitcher. These are little league plays these guys aren't executing, especially the botched fly ball in left. Furcal has no business being close enough to get in the way. The ball always-always-always belongs to the outfielder. C'mon man.
  2. While this comes as no surprise, it makes her epitaph even sadder. I agree that here parents were in denial. Maybe she was so far gone, no one could have helped her, but if they could have squared up with the facts, who knows, it might have made a difference. As is the case with so many musicians who left sooner than they should, all of us are deprived of what could have been. In the case of Amy Winehouse, there's hardly anything left. What? 20-30 songs? A couple of hours of music? Wow.
  3. In the case of questionable weather, I tend not to trust any local news outlets, regardless of location. On the other hand, I do trust Weather Underground. Here's what they have to say about the weather today in St. Louis: Weather at a Glance Weather Station Shaw/Tower Grove, St. Louis Current Conditions: Overcast Temperature 57.8 °F Today 63 °F T-storms 80% chance of precipitation Tonight 43 °F Rain 80% chance of precipitation
  4. Jim, I think any time thunderstorms are a possibility, things get dicey. Weren't you at a Texas game earlier this year when the weather went nuts?
  5. MLB will make a decision at 1:00 CDT this morning as to whether game six will be played tonight in St. Louis. According to current forecasts, the weather is expected to be "atrocious". If the Series get pushed back a day, which team benefits the most? Should the Cardinals win game six, that could put Chris Carpenter on the mound for game seven with three days rest.
  6. Living in Portland, Oregon deprives one of very many opportunities to celebrate a world championship. The one exception being the Trailblazers run to the 1977 NBA title. I had the good fortune to be able to attend the last game of the finals with Philadelphia and I can tell you this, it was a sporting experience like none other. And it pales in comparison with the celebrations that ensued. I'd say if Texas wins, you're in for a mighty fun ride.
  7. When LaRussa lifted Lynn after the intentional walk, I was thinking WTF??? When it comes to LaRussa, I'd have to say the gilt has fallen from the lilly in the last couple of games.
  8. i gotta say I'm lovin' it when they put the camera on Ron Washington and he goes through all of his seizure-style gyrations. That whole scene in the Texas dugout after Napoli hit the go-ahead double was great.
  9. Most likely in the case of Buble and with 100% certainty in the case of Bieber, it's a question of striking while the iron is hot. Someone has to accommodate the suckers who are born every minute.
  10. Or closed? This one's going nowhere.
  11. Indeed, it is Wilmer, the cheap gunsel from The Maltese Falcon. This picture was taken in 1934.
  12. Jim, I can see that you need to unburden yourself. I just want you to know that I'm here for you. I have no dog in this fight, so I'm acting in the role of the impartial observer. Being a Yankee fan, I cannot possibly fathom what it's like to knock on the door when no one is home. I am a baseball empath. I feel your pain.
  13. As so-called "must win" games go, tomorrow's is one for the Rangers. St. Louis has all the mojo right now and LaRussa is showing why he's HOF material and Ron Washington is just a dancer. With the prospect of facing Chris Carpenter maybe two more times if the series goes severn games, the mood has got to be a little dismal and depressing in Big D.
  14. All I'll say is that if you're a fan of college football and you didn't see the ending of the Wisconsin Michigan State game tonight, you're going to be kicking yourself. You just don't see this sort of thing very often.
  15. Qu'est-ce qui?
  16. That's not a very good picture of Carol Wayne. She was a cutie when she did the Tea Time Movies with Carson. I believe she had a sister by the name of Nina who was even more attractive, but in a classical sort of way. One or the other of them was in a short lived TV series I found amusing at the time called "Camp Run-A-Muck".
  17. Leo G. Carroll played banker Cosmo Topper on the TV show "Topper". I'm going with him.

  19. Most Organnissimo board members are old enough to recall the Police Academy movies. One of the highlights of these films was the appearance of Michael Winslow, the guy who did all the weird sound effects. Turns out he's still around and still turning heads. Here he is on Norwegian television doing Zep's Whole Lotta Love.
  20. Precisely why MLB should wise up and cut back the regular season by two weeks. This is the World fucking Series for cryin' out loud, your showcase event. It should be played in conditions conducive to good baseball.
  21. Here are the names I've come up with. Not very many of them are what I'd call well known. Dick Groat Steve Hamilton Ron Reed Dick Ricketts Danny Ainge Cotton Nash Mark Hendrickson Frank Baumholtz Also, here's an unrelated but interesting piece of trivia I came across while I was researching this. St. Louis pitcher extraordinaire, Bob Gibson, played with the Harlem Globetrotters in 1957 and 1958.
  22. Connors played just one game with the Dodgers, but 66 with the Chicago Cubs in 1951. He was also on the roster for the original Boston Celtics in 1946 when they were part of the Basketball Association of America. That makes him just one of 12 athletes to have played in both the NBA and MLB. Oh yeah, he was also drafted by the NFL's Chicago Bears.
  23. If hundreds previous Organissimo releases are gathering dust in your attic, and you decide to go with a the physical format for your newest release, why not make it a 2 for 1 deal and throw in one of the older CD's with each purchase of a new one?
  24. Peter Breck?
  25. Barney Wilen Lars Gullin Robert Fripp Moondog Anthony Ortega Jimmy Lyons Nick Drake
