I'm guessing what you submitted must have been all in caps and that at some point, it made reference to either a sammich or Lou Donaldson.

Another David Foster Wallace clone here. Not sure what this means. It seems a bit odd that so many Organissimo poster's styles would match up with just one writer. Makes you wonder how big the data base is they're using to perform the analysis.
-
David, Cool. Thanks for sharing. Is that an outtake? I sure don't remember seeing this on any of the episodes.

Dan is my new hero.

At this specific point in time, it's possible that Julio Iglesius was the most uncomfortable man in the world.

I still don't understand why you think Steinbrenner ruined the game when he was operating within the rules established by baseball itself. Are you suggesting that even though he had the resources, he shouldn't have used them?
-
How you can blame Steinbrenner for taking advantage of the rules baseball imposed upon itself. The only thing you could possibly cite him for was being better positioned to take advantage of those rules than anyone else. Would you have had him not do so in the interests of fairness? Since when has that entered into the equation in any professional sport? LIke it or not, It is, always has been and always will be about winning. He did what he thought he needed to do, and could do, to affect that outcome. End of story.

I hope they have enough time before the game tonight to put together some sort of meaningful tribute. Love him or hate him, he was one of a kind. Also, before anyone is too quick to pass judgement, make sure you understand that there was a side to Steinbrenner that people rarely saw. That's his generosity. In any business and especially at the level he operated, there's a fine line between being abusive and being demanding. More than a few people who worked for the Yankees and who were subject to his wrath found themselves put back on the Yankee payroll for life after leaving the organization. The team merely listed them as scouts. He's also been known provide full ride college scholarships to kids he barely knew.

I stopped watching when I realized I was going to be bookended by Chris Berman and Will Farrell. The worst nightmare I ever had doesn't approach the reality of this pairing. Looks like I may have missed something.
-
Amen to that. Both the teams had myriad chances but not one guy who could finish. Alexi Lalas said this game was like putting lipstick on a pig. That's a pretty accurate description. Nonetheless, congrats to the Spanish side. Ugly or not, a World Cup is still a World Cup.

A moment of silence please for the passing of Bob Sheppard, a legendary and iconic figure in the world of Yankee baseball. He was 99. A silkier more melliflouous voice you are unlikely to encounter.

Chamberlain can go fuck himself. He's nothing but wasted space. If the Yanks could have landed Lee or if they can get Oswalt, you move Hughes to the set up role and, presto, problem solved. If I was Joe Girardi, I'd spend the next few days forgetting the Chamberlain's number. Then there's no way he can call it.

Agree 110%. Lydia Pense and Cold Blood. Great singer, great band. No contest, they relegate Janis to an afterthought. I bought my first LP of theirs back in 1970. It was called Cold Blood and includes my all time favorite C.B. tune, I'm A Good Woman. The first 30 seconds or so of that song is so kick ass, you about fall out of your chair. That was followed by Thriller and then Sisyfus with the tremendously jazzy tune Funky On My Back. I'll never figure out why this gal and that band never got any bigger. It sure wasn't for lack of talent.

I wonder if LeBron has any idea how badly he damaged his so-called "brand" last night?
-
My understanding is that the Yankees have told the Mariners that they need to make a decision before tonight's game.

Excuse me while I puke. Everyone looks better in pinstripes. They're so slimming. Given the problems Youkilis is having with his ankle, the fans did him a favor. He needs to time off. I'm guessing he wouldn't have gone/played anyway.
-
Yes, because it wouldn't have been so manipulative. Also, I think you're right about signing guys for the league minimum in that is doesn't count against the cap.
-
If this was really about rings, and winning and legacy, LeBron goes to the Bulls. This Miami thing is just three attention junkies following through on some cockamamie plan they cooked up years ago by manipulating the length of their recently expired contracts. I would love to see this whole thing fall flat on its face when the Heat can't find enough role players to fill out their roster and make it work. This would serve to substantiate the fact that it's not about individuals, it's about the team. That's a lesson these three guys as well as the entire NBA could stand to learn.

Congrats to the fans, of all people, for voting Joey Votto and Nick Swisher on to the all-star game rosters. The fans often miss the boat by a country mile when it comes to this sort of thing, so it's nice to see they got it right, at least this time.

Yes. He's a lot underrated.

Sports: 2009/10 NBA & NCAA Basketball Season
Dave James replied to Soulstation1's topic in Miscellaneous - Non-Political
The whole thing has become a circus. Thank God there are so many clowns. David Stern must be eating his liver. This sort of ego driven, "it's all about me" self-absorbtion is why I have so much trouble liking the NBA. -
Well, at least A-Rod. He dialed nine twice tonight against the A's. The first, a grand slam. Total RBI's: 5. Nice.

Friday the 13th meets Benny Hill.

I'm sure the Yankees would love to land Lee, but they really don't have what the M's are after. I'm guessing he'll wind up in Minnesota. They've got a really good young catcher by the name of Wilson Ramos who, let's face it, isn't going to get much face time backing up Joe Mauer.

Milt Jackson - where next?
Dave James replied to The Magnificent Goldberg's topic in Recommendations
The pair of Original Jazz Classics Jackson did with the Count Basie are nice. They're called Milt Jackson + Count Basie + The Big Band Volume 1 & Volume 2.
