Allen, I have a friend who can quote Sandy Koufax statistics and trivia ad infinitum. All you have to do is mention 1963 and it's like you've thrown water on the Wicked Witch of the West.

There's an even weirder Reece album than that called The Hidden Words of Bahá'u'lláh. It is definitely NOT worth seeking out. On the definitely worth seeking out side of the fence, check out an album called This Is Jazz Music of the 40's and 50's on iTunes. In addition to Dizzy Reece, this one features Tony Crombie, Don Rendell, Howard Roberts, Ronnie Ross and Eddie Thompson playing both separately and together.

In its storied history, baseball has seen more than its share of miraculous and memorable moments, but none rise to the level of the "shot heard round the world." The setting, the long standing rivalry between the two teams and the almost insane passion of each team's fans; a field filled with future Hall of Famers the likes of Mays, Snider, Irvin, Campanella and Reese along with Russ Hodges' call for the ages...how could you ask for anything more?

An astonishing find. I wonder how long it will be before there's a complete listing of the recordings in the collection. With regard to the copyright, there was a reader comment at the conclusion of the Times article that made reference to some sort of Disney influenced amendment to the original copyright law that operated to extend the duration of the original protections.

Steven Strasburg and the Nationals agreed to a contract last year 77 seconds before the deadline.

Another memorable Javier Vazquez outing is in the making. Two innings pitched tonight against the Tigers; four hits, two runs, two earned runs, three walks and a home run. This guy just gets worse and worse and with Pettitte's setback over the weekend, who knows what happens from here on in. I don't see how you can justify not shutting Vazquez down completely. I know there's zip down on the farm, but it couldn't be any worse than he's been over the last month. Give someone else a chance. One thing I do know. No hitting and lousy pitching is a lethal combination.

The ABC Sunday World News ran a story about Leonard's passing at the end of tonight's broadcast. They showed a few of of his photographs and played some real jazz in the background.

Charles Barkley's Twitter take is right on the money. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hUYCccbTkc4&feature=related James is so insulated from reality that reality is irrelevant.

Good luck with this, Dan. I worked in group insurance administration (claims, underwriting and medical underwriting management) for 35 1/2 years. Individual insurance is a tough business. Are you selling just mortgage cancellation and mortgage D.I. or other lines a well? Are the owners independent agents or captive? If they're captive, what companies are they representing? If you're going to wind up supervising CSR's, make sure they're equipped to provide one stop shopping. That means knowing their stuff, so they can deal with 95% of the questions that come their way. Also, that they understand the provisions of your policies and, for comparative purposes, those of your competition. Trust me, that makes all the difference in the world. It will make your life as a supervisor whole lot easier and, more importantly, it will make your customers a whole lot happier.

But his images will live forever. Easily the most iconic of all jazz photography. Thanks for the memories, Mr. Leonard..

I'm starting to worry about Ellsbury. All that talent in a body that doesn't seem able to keep up. He's a local kid who grew up in Madras and played his college ball for Pat Casey at Oregon State. Hope he gets things squared away. It would be a shame if he never was able to realize his potential. Not to mention a letdown for every, single, under age 25 woman in the Boston metropolitan area.

Was this a lot or little for a ticket in 1974?
Dave James replied to Hardbopjazz's topic in Miscellaneous Music
I think that would have been around $11.00. That's a fair amount in 1974. -
In September, the Yankees have three games at Texas, seven against Tampa Bay (four at home, three there) and three with Boston at home. Yikes.

That's what I'd call an effort worthy of a $25 million dollar man. A full plate...three taters and five ribs. Nice. Keep up the good work. I know it's only Kansas City, but everyone in the Yankees' starting lineup tonight got at least one hit. A solid start from Hughes and good work out of the pen. Who can ask for anything more?

Sad news indeed. No matter what she did, she approached it with total commitment and great passion.

Cliff, As you know, threads tend to unravel in these parts. Free range posting. Personally, I think this results in more wide ranging (and interesting) discussions. One other on point comment. For anyone who has heard Amy's Mosaic Select, he's a long ways from forgotten.

I saw the Doors once at an outdoor concert in Eugene. I remember two things. First, that Van Morrison was there with Them. Second, Morrison spent most of the time the band performed berating John Densmore's drumming. That proves he wasn't far enough out of it to recognize bad playing when he heard it. Densmore is right behind Dennis Wilson as my all-time least favorite drummer in rock. A genuine hack.

Just about jinxed him, didn't I? But he did manage to nail the final out and NY beat KC 4-3 tonight. Dave James and MartyJazz, here's Mo's save from last night. I saw some incredible stat afterwards--with a runner on 3rd and nobody out, hitters are 0-14 with 0 RBI against Mo lifetime. Or something crazy like that. Here's something else interesting about Mo. Even at his age, he's till the best athlete on the team. Derek Jeter said that ten years ago, he could have been one of the best defensive center fielders in baseball.

The Doors with strings? Some things work. Some things don't. This doesn't.

Thanks Dan for pointing me to some details. Durium As nearly as I can tell, Curtis Amy played on one Doors album (Soft Parade) and only on a single track, Touch Me.

Unfortunately, I have to agree.
