I'd like more of the pre Clifton Anderson era stuff, like the Polish concert on Vol. 1. After all, that was what was initially promised.

The original session reels have been located according to the Mosaic newsletter What a rare treat!Having worked on several editions of A Love Supreme in the CD era, I am amazed to find out that a set of the original session reels has been found and that all will be revealed on November 6, 2015 in a 3-CD set of the iconic work.Over the years, we were able to find scraps of the sextet version (of only one movement), from Coltrane's reference tapes unearthed by his son Ravi. Informed opinion based on actually watching the film? So the above description of the story made sense to you? It's a fictional story populated by some historical people. As Jim said above, "jazz fiction", I'm cool with that. So instead of hunting down semi-legal recordings by the 'Lost Quintet', people new to collecting Miles Davis will in the future be asking the man behind the counter for a copy of the 'Stolen Album'.

The Blu-ray Audio is reasonably priced at the moment. Only, there is no mention of who mastered it and when on the back artwork. Like the booklet for the 2002 deluxe edition mentioned, Van Gelder worked with an excellent transfer made by French radio and it shows, but I would prefer to own a copy that is a bit less loud.

I just gave the 2002 deluxe edition a spin for the first time in a long time, and that version of the live performance is probably good enough for me.

That makes it EUR 14 extra for just the live disc. Instead of the reference mono version of just two tracks, they could have fit the excellent flat transfer of the stereo tape that was included on the Platinum SHM-CD on the first disc. That would have been value for money.

I feel the A Love Supreme outtakes that were released previously, both with and without Shepp, were lacking. I felt the same about the Crescent alternate released on the Quartet box set. Now there is nothing wrong with releasing more/all of the outtakes this time, but the pre-order prices are exorbitant last I checked. This set is in need of an immediate steep drop in price. And the mastering better be outstanding.

They should push it straight to the discount bin. Money grab.
