Thanks for the report! Can't wait to get my copy!
-
It reminds me a bit of "the sound pool" by MEV; a sort of anything goes wtf thing. Sure it's an interesting album, but not something I would play more then once or twice. That said it's been over 15 years since I got rid of my vinyl so maybe I should cue it up again on my "scratching the seventies" box to see if my opinion is any different.

Never got into Roba; it's a tough album to dig. Had an original and got rid of it!

Are you referring to this record: ?... "The Forest & The Zoo" (1966) - Steve Lacy (ESP 1060) great counterpoint exchanges between Lacy and Rava. It has been remastered and reissued on CD some years ago fixing a technical issue (out of phase) of the original vinyl copy. Was not aware of this technical issue? Have the original Lp and it sounds fine to me. I have that BASF LP and agree it is nice. Also the Rava LP on Vista is very good (same band pretty much as "quotation marks"). Also have a rare Rava LP released only in Argentina from this vintage that is really good. Maybe I'll pull it out tonight and play it..

Nice one! Great package but I must admit I have not played my copy in over 10 years... -

Andrew Hill "Point of Departure" (Blue Note, NY USA stereo w/ "ear") After dealing with a rather dull sounding Japanese Toshiba LP for over 20 years it's a great joy to finally get this original stereo USA issue with plastylite mark in NM condition for a reasonable price (around $100). Sounds remarkable... -
Even though I bought the recent Vocalion CD issue I ordered this LP a few days ago. Will be interesting to hear if it sounds any better then the CD which sounds good but not great in my opinion.

Matthias Eick "Midwest" (ECM, Germany). This one is a "grower"...didn't knock me out the first time but after repeated listenings it's becoming a big favorite of mine. Jon Balke is fantastic on this album. -
What I have to buy it again!?!?

Thankfully most of the old Horo vinyls can still be found on eBay/discogs etc for not too much of a high cost but that said I regret selling my mint copy of Steve Lacy's "eronel" in leaner times around 15 years ago...that one seems to be a tough one to find now and when it does surface it seems to go for at least double or triple then what I sold my copy for way back

Yeah it's a generalization for sure with numerous exceptions, but over the years it seems I've encountered more noisy French pressings then from any other country... -

A good French pressing!? :0 Seems like a rare bird...although my Pathe albums sound clean... -

John Coltrane "my favorite things" (Atlantic, USA). Finally obtained a deep groove white fan stereo original...now I have to decide whether to keep my slightly later black fan mono issue! -
I'm sure it does! I have a pristine Liberty vinyl pressing that sounds amazing...

Ilpo Saastoimenen "joujetsen juju" (love, Finland) have not played this record in at least 5 years...bought it because of Edward Vesala's involvement but it still confuses me. An odd record - definitely not "jazz" but it's really all over the map. Anyways, not many albums in my collection leave me scratching my head when I listen to it like this one. Is this a good thing!? -

Any good? I like Eick's leader dates but at the same time have a sneaking doubt that a narrow furrow is being ploughed with them - danger of diminishing returns. I see there's a violinist added this time but the ECM site clip didn't really suggest there's a major departure in sound. I really like it; bit less "melodic" then "skala" but I can tell this will be a grower. I'm a big fan of Eick's albums on ECM though so you are getting a biased opinion I'm not adverse to a bit of bias. I'll call it informed opinion .......the 'little less "melodic"' probably makes it a 'yes' for me Have you seen him live at all? I've only done so with Haarla's 'Northbound' band, I keep missing Jaga Jazzist and I'm not sure he's played leader dates here yet. I'd like to hear him stretch out a bit on some of this ECM material I saw his "skala" band live two years ago; it was a great show! ECM is putting out select new releases on vinyl; only being pressed in Germany but available through them or amazon, etc... -

You must have had a duff copy I guess. Just given this one a re-spin to check and no complaints here. It looks essentially unplayed and I think came from the archive of 'Gramophone' magazine, probably a major plus factor. No doubt 90% of the copies that made it this far have sadly been hammered to death on record changers and sonically oliterated by styli like knitting needles ! My copy was super clean; I'm not saying it didn't sound good...just that it was not an improvement on my later USA prestige issue. Yeah I hear you...it's getting tough to find clean old jazz albums that do not have groove distortion, etc. Any good? I like Eick's leader dates but at the same time have a sneaking doubt that a narrow furrow is being ploughed with them - danger of diminishing returns. I see there's a violinist added this time but the ECM site clip didn't really suggest there's a major departure in sound. "Eastern Sounds" is a lovely record. I had that same Fontana mono issue but sold it because it was no better then my late 60s prestige issue. One day I'd love to hear the original USA Moodsville issue to see if it sounds any better. -
