So now I got 16 of the 25 titles in the mono series. I was lucky to buy these all from a local collector for $20 Canadian (that's about $15 usd now) and they are all in pristine condition. I skipped a few of the Miles Davis titles because I'm happy enough with how they sound in my AP "great prestige recordings" Miles box.
I must give special mention to the Tommy Flanagan trio record which was recorded in Europe; this one in particular sounds fantastic!
I also have a handful of original prestige/new jazz titles and agree that these new reissues sound better.
Sun Ra "visits planet earth" (Saturn, USA). Have not played this red label original in many years..even though the vinyl looks great there is almost constant soft crackles in the background
Still at least the music overpowers and I love the cover art!
Yup all of the above and I'd also recommend some of the albums with his wife Karin Krog such as "cloud line blue", "Nordic quartet", "open space", and "such winters of memory".
Clearly it seems you're the only on one this thread whose opinion is fact judging by how bent out of shape you are getting over other people's viewpoints that go against yours and the select internet articles you choose to present.
So I bought 3 titles on this series and will be buying about 8 more. They look and sound superb and will definitely be buying the upcoming Dolphy titles in the stereo series. Original Prestige vinyl was not the greatest..I've heard even scratch-free copies that were noisy. So for a tiny fraction of a "mint"(ie could still be noisy recycled vinyl) original you get a top notch replica with far better sound.
3 chances to get 1 yard and you have beast mode on your team. WTF. New England got lucky on that idiotic play call. And yeah that little display of poor sportsmanship was sad to see; did not expect Seattle to behave like that...it was their own fault for handing over the game to them like that.
Donald Byrd "electric Byrd" (blue note, liberty). Today's find; a pristine copy...mint vinyl and perfect cover - like new. Sounds pretty amazing..my first "late" period Byrd record and it's definitely in the early 70s Miles mode but considerably more "spacier"(apologies for this term haha).
I grew up with Van Halen and listened to them when I was in elementary school in the early 80s. I remember when "diver down" was released. Had all their records and remember liking "1984" but already thought at a young age it was starting to sound a bit commercial!!
Anyway here's sort of a cool story that happened recently - a good friend of mine recently sold a few Hagstrom guitars to Pat Smear and just last week Pat emailed my friend a link to a Foo Fighters concert at which he played my buddy's guitar. It was at recent Dave Grohl birthday concert and guess who the guest vocalist was? None other then Diamond Dave haha...they played two great tracks - "panama"(always my favorite from 1984) and "ain't talking bout love".
Have an opportunity to buy some of these at half price from a local collector and was just curious if anyone here has opinions on them? Do they sound nice? Worth buying?
Also being offered a MFSL pressing of "milestones" and would appreciate opinions on this pressing as well...
Some amazing stuff in those INA archives! There's the Garbarek/Vesala/Andersen trio as well as the Rypdal/Christensen/Hovenjso trio videos too that are totally killer as well. Imagine strolling through some park in the afternoon to hear those sounds haha..
