Correct!
-
Correct on track 13! track 12 is not Greenwich.. track 14 is Dave Douglas; correct! interesting reactions! track 3 is not Paul Jeffries, but it is an alto player. Also track 8 had neither McLean nor Carvin. track 4 is an American saxophonist!
-
It's not an ECM recording; but you're on the right track Track 15 is from a fairly, but not dreadfully, obscure album haha...

I just ordered "juju" and "the real mccoy" a few days ago..I did get all the Joe Hendersons upon release. Did not get "night dreamer" simply because I am very pleased with the sound of my Japanese King pressing.

Nope!

Great article even though I sold my copy of "live in Seattle" many years ago...tough music!

Here is the link for download and online listening: http://thomkeith.com/BFT/bft139.html Enjoy!

I am presenting the October blindfold test and once again Thom Keith has kindly hosted the audio on his website. Will post the link in the discussion forum on October 1st! I promise it will not be as '70s centric' as my first BFT. There's even a few tracks from the 90s(!)....

Thanks for the note; I'll order a copy tonight. Always thought my FMR CDs sounded a bit so-so...
-
I got my money back but would have much preferred the record; it was a bargain basement price on an original mono with ear :(

How John Peel created our musical world
Homefromtheforest replied to A Lark Ascending's topic in Miscellaneous Music
I first became aware of him in the mid to late 80s when he recorded a lot of the indie/punk bands I liked then as a teenager..a very open musical mind for sure. -

I have the Japanese LP; it's certainly interesting but don't recall being blown away by it. Worth checking out for fans... -
What vinyl are you spinning right now??
Homefromtheforest replied to wolff's topic in The Vinyl Frontier
Joe Henderson w/Masabumi Kikuchi, Terumasa Hino "in concert" (Philips, Japan). Had a single sleeve later issue that I sold over 10 years ago. Found the original gatefold recently for dirt cheap and I really like it now..probably because my stereo system back then wasn't nearly as good as it is now! Francois Tusques "free jazz" (Columbia/Disques Moulodji, Japan) another recent score - white label promo with OBI..mint vinyl and a fraction of what an original would have cost me..let alone finding a clean original! -

oops yes London label indeed..I swear I'm losing brain cells everyday! Agreed a fantastic album that I don't play often enough..first heard it around 20 years ago via a local hippie collector that had it. A few years later I found a mint copy for myself! -

Carsten Meinert kvartet "To You" (MS, fredricksberg reissue). Finally bought this reissue after searching in vain for a reasonably priced original for many years..this reissue sounds fantastic..excellent music and quality pressing/sound. Barney Wilen "Barney" (RCA, Japan). At $25 much cheaper then an original, and sounds great. An excellent record!! Really enjoyed this one..great music. Yamashta & the Horizon "sunrise from west sea" (Liberty, Japan). Have not played this in over 10 years..a fantastic album with Masahiko Sato and Takehisa Kosugi..stunning sound quality and performance. -

Had a Japanese press of that Jym Young LP many years ago but got rid of it because it didn't really do much for me. I'll have to dig out my CDR some day and see if my ears are more receptive to it these days! Tonight's spins: Kenny Burrell "on view at the five spot" (Blue Note, 47 w 63rd mono) Takeru Muruoka "Takeru" (Philips, Japan) -
I rarely if ever had issues with the usps but just in the last 12 months two things happened. First a rather rare Duke Pearson record called "wahoo" got sent to my Washington address via insured media mail and it never turned up. 7 months later it's still not here. The last tracking update just says it left origin facility..so it disappeared somewhere along the way. This afternoon I just checked the tracking on another album I bought and I see it's been delivered to some address in Michigan. The problem is my address is in Washington! I suspect in this case, however, the seller is probably to blame...likely shipping it to wrong buyer by mistake. Oh the joys of online record buying :(

Mountain "climbing" (windfall/bell, Canada). Played loud as per sleeve suggestion..and with a few Icelandic beers thrown in for good measure -

Curtis Fuller "the opener" (blue note, King Japan) Lee Morgan "city lights" (blue note, King Japan) Recent purchases; figured it was not likely I'd be buying originals of these anytime soon ;) -

some great stuff on that record! I still have their first few singles..seems like yesterday! I had a 6 eye mono & a 6 eye stereo. I preferred the stereo by a lot. Then I picked up the Legacy 50th Anniversary Edition and I liked that even more. Lastly, I picked up the Newbury Comics limited edition blue pressing and that one has become my "go to" pressing. The funny thing is, the mono that is getting the big bucks these days is by far the worst-sounding LP version of this that I heard. yeah I was not a fan of the mono copy I had. -

Miles Davis "kind of blue" (Columbia, stereo 6-eye). I recently sold my mono 6 eye and Canadian pressing 6-eye as I decided I did not need 8 different versions of this record. I find the stereo edition to sound the best..a few clicks at the beginning of each side but quite clean afterwards. I also kept the 50th anniversary vinyl box edition, a 70s Japanese pressing, and the SACD which sounds incredible.
