  1. I love your Finnish and Norwegian jazz sections! Jealous ;)
  2. Jackie McLean "right now" (blue note, NY USA mono). Have not played this in many years.."poor Eric" is such a beautiful track..and Clifford Jarvis!
  3. I'll have to blow the dust off my copy; have not read that in almost 20 years
  4. I'm sure I read that band did gig a bit around that time?
  5. Did anyone on this board see Jackie's band with Hutcherson and Moncur in 1963? I would have loved to have witnessed that! Had I lived in New York I would have seen him as many times as possible..a true giant of the music.
  6. Various "sensational jazz '70 vol.0" (Columbia, Japan)
  7. Wow! well it gets to a point where it's taped so tight that you worry about cutting the cover with a knife or bending the cover if you are using your hands to undo the tape..that's my only beef
  8. I've had the occasional LP with beyond excessive packaging. Like layers upon layers of bubble wrap taped super tightly all around and then wrapped in plastic and then cardboard and then more taped plastic, etc. Yes safe packing is crucial but when it takes you 30 mins to get to the actual record..well..
  9. Lee Morgan "leeway" (blue note, mono 47 w 63rd). A recent score..1st pressing with deep groove on both sides. Cover a bit worn and vinyl is slightly crackly but definitely a serviceable copy at $60 Hank Mobley "a caddy for daddy" (blue note, New York USA stereo) another recent purchase..$25 and pristine condition. Really enjoying this one right now..better then I expected from this vintage.
  10. Oops. Spelling obviously not my strong point; especially with German words it seems I have a later 70s pressing of the second Gila album; it's a really nice album with a strong Popol Vuh touch.
  11. Ayako Shinozaki "music now for harp" (Columbia, Japan) works by Takemitsu, Kosugi, etc
  12. I think it was on RCA if memory serves correctly; possibly called "on tour"? Never did bother buying another copy..took the ugly experience as an omen perhaps ;) yikes! I bet that Abdul Hannan record cost more then $5 too!
  13. Well an envelope sounds slightly sturdier then regular brown paper ;)
  14. So a month ago I bought a supposed "M-" LP from a Japanese seller on discogs that claimed it had OBI and insert as well. A few days ago it arrived in a piece of cardboard that had been folded together and taped up; like a used garbage dump piece of cardboard. So hardly any corner or side protection at all. Miraculously the record survived but upon opening it the album had no insert and no OBI and the vinyl was covered in marks and scratches. This reminded me of the time around 15 years ago where an eBay seller sent me an LP wrapped in plain brown paper - no cardboard at all! The record of course was in 3 pieces..thank goodness it was only a $5 Peter Nero LP that I bought because of Barre Phillips's presence. Anyway I thought this would be a fun forum for people to share their record buying disasters or horror stories!
  15. Wife took out kids this morning so was free to crank the stereo and play some vinyl(after finishing some chores of course!) Larry Young "unity" (blue note, stereo "ear") Kenny Drew "undercurrent" (blue note, music matters 33rpm) Art Blakey "the freedom rider" (blue note, stereo "ear") Masabumi Kikuchi "hairpin circus" (Philips, Japan)
  16. Bernard Parmegiani "chronos" (Philips, France). His masterpiece
  17. Michael Ranta "Yuen Shan" (metaphon). Extraordinary!
  18. $100 shipped within North America. Virtually unplayed with all inserts (dried flower, booklets, etc)..still with outer OBI too.
  19. Prices include shipping within North America. Overseas inquire please! Kiyoshi Sugimoto Quintet "Babylonia Wind" (Dig Deep Columbia, mini LP gatefold sleeve - as new with OBI and insert) $30 Kiyoshi Sugimoto Quartet "Country Dream" (Dig Deep Columbia, jewel box edition - as new with OBI) $20 Takeshi Inomata Sound of Sound LTD "s/t" (Dig Deep Columbia - mini LP sleeve - as new with OBI) $30 Jiro Inagaki "Funky Stuff" (Dig Deep Columbia - as new with OBI) $25
  20. I have a photocopy of a flyer for a 1971 gig at the jazz record mart listing Sabu Toyozumi performing with George Lewis, Roscoe Mitchell, Malachi Favors, Douglas Ewart, Joseph Jarman, Aaron Dodd, and Steve McCall. He also released an album in the mid 70s entitled "Sabu-message to Chicago" where he does a version of "people in sorrow". The Japanese free jazz scene is great..figures like Masayuki Takayangi, Masahiko Togashi, and Masahiko Sato are the giants but lets not forget Mototeru Takagi, Masabumi Kikuchi, Motoharu Yoshizawa, Keizo Innoue, Toshinoro Kondo, and many more!
  21. Han Bennink/Sabu Toyozuni "dada" (chap chap, Japan) Evan Parker/Motoharu Yoshizawa "two chaps" (chap chap, Japan) great performances and sound quality on both of these!
  22. Is the Music Matters 33rpm "point of departure" significantly better sounding then the original? I have a NM stereo "ear" pressing that sounds fantastic so I've not bought the MM version yet. And speaking of which..I have the SHM CD of "unity" which sounds fantastic so I'm not sure if I'm going to bother buying the MM 33rpm issue. Plus I have a nice sounding "ear" stereo original LP too...
  23. That MEV/AMM LP is awesome! I also totally love the Sonic Arts Union album on the same label... tonights playlist: Ark Percussion Group "Black Hole" (Sony, Japan) late 70s modern percussion album bought solely for the sublime Michael Ranta contribution. George Otsuka "sea breeze" (union, Japan) Kiyoshi Sugimoto "country dream" (takt, Japan)
  24. Explain that to my wife :)
  25. I have all the FMR CDs of the Turtle albums; had no idea they were bootlegs!? I'll definitely pick up this box for the book and hopefully better mastering as the FMR CDs sound okay but not great. Had a chance once to buy a nice copy of the John Taylor LP on Turtle but at the time wasn't feeling the $300 price tag too well...
