  1. At this point, I have no objection to unlimited disclosure of performance enhanced (Shazam) information. Still hoping Tim Webb avoids spoilers and gives it a go.
  2. on 4, it's your BFT from a previous decade!

  3. On to the clues. For 3 and 4, Thom's phrase "familiar adjacent" is definitely in play. Horns from 3 and 4 have appeared on BFTs in this decade. A participant in this BFT has praised the album containing 3 on this forum. A horn from 4 has been described as a favorite by one of the participants in this BFT, but on a different horn. And a participant in this BFT included a track from the same album as 4 in a BFT from an earlier decade. 6 is more of a challenge. Recorded in 2007. The sax has recorded several albums as leader, but a different member of the band may be more familiar to the participants.
  4. Which matches mine. And this is where it started for me.
  5. No Blythe, No Higgins.
  6. 1, 2, 5, 7, 9, 10, 11 and 12 are identified so far by artist and title. Two musicians known on 8 No musicians IDed on 3, 4 or 6
  7. Yes, #12 is Prayer. No Buddy Rich or Le Rex. Thom was correct about the decade of #4. I don't agree with the "Horrific" part. #6 does not appear to be a recent reissue.
  8. And Thom nails the bass on 8, it is Jamaladeen Tacuma. And the piano on 12 is Keith Jarrett. Elvin, Mingus, Gonsalves and Dickerson right on target, and Bang and Garzone despite yourself. I will drop clues on 3 and 4 in about a week if Tim hasn't gobbled them up by then. 6 is likely to evade identification. I first became aware of Jamaladeen Tacuma under his previous name Rudy McDaniel when Walt Dickerson brought a test pressing of his second Steeplechase album, Serendipity to WRTI, the Temple U radio station, all jazz at the time. He spoke highly of the teenage electric bassist.
  9. Thought you might find another name on further listening. The sax on 8 is George Garzone.
  10. DubModal, you are right on Billy Bang, Mingus and Charlie Haden, none of the other names match up. 1, 2, 5, 7, 9, 10 and 11 are identified so far by artist and title.
  11. Yes, Max on 7. TD provided a link that confirms, and JSngry IDed bass, drums and label. I don't think the board members consider the tenor on 8 here particularly obscure, but all would probably agree to talent deserving wider recognition. Charlie Haden is the bassist on 12. Thanks all for listening and appreciating.
  12. With both John Dennis and Walt Dickerson identified, it's a good time to share Walt's observations on John's too short life and career: Dark Forces Swing Blind Punches: Walt Dickerson interview, part 1
  13. Felser provided the song titles for 10 and 11 matching up to the artists identified by JSngry, so those two can be considered solved.
  14. I got these JLabs for my wife, paid a little more for a different model that I've been happy with. Amazon.com: JLab Go Air Pop+ True Wireless Earbuds, in Ear Headphones, Bluetooth Earphones, 35H Playtime Ear Buds, Bluetooth Earbuds with Microphone, USB-C Charging Case, Dual Connect, EQ3 Sound, Black : Electronics
  15. His is the name that attracted me to this album. I've been binging on the streamable NoBusiness catalog on Bandcamp. Really catches the Loft Jazz moment. There's an excellent duo album with the alto (Marion Brown) and Dave Burrell.
  16. No Chico Freeman or Jay Hoggard on this, but I like them both, particularly Hoggard. And no John Klemmer.
  17. JSngry nails 5 and 9 and ID's artist on 10 and 11. Everything you said about 7 is correct, as TD's ID attests. Yes to Elvin and McCoy in 1 as Felser has uncovered. And Billy Bang is a member of The Group. No Henry Threadgill was incorporated in this BFT.
  18. T. D. Two for two, and I think you picked the hardest two to start with. Felser correct on #1
  19. And we are live! Thanks Thom!
  20. As of posting, this link isn't live yet, but hopefully very soon. As usual some whitespace so you can get to the link without seeing subsequent posts to avoid spoilage: 2025 Blindfold Tests – Thom Keith Dot Net Enjoy!!
  21. I drive, so I'm willing to stay further out. The Baymont on I-75 is a good value.
  22. Non-jazz acts of interest to me include Jimmie Dale Gilmore and Butch Hancock, and Orcutt Shelley Miller. I note that violinist Charles Burnham is in the WIlliam Hooker quartet. Dave Douglas' quintet has James Brandon Lewis, Rafiq Bhatia and Tomeka Reid. Caroline Shaw and Georgia Anne Muldrow (with Harriet Tubman), maybe even Karen Mantler are there to tempt JSngry. Slightly lacking in star power on the jazz side, but solid. Marilyn Crispell looks like the highlight at this early stage.
  23. Very cheerful set. 1. Really familiar, pretty sure it's Abdullah Ibrahim. Is it The Wedding? 2. Woody Shaw instantly entered my mind and I think that's who this is. If I'm right, it might be Carter Jefferson on alto. 3. Vibes color the groove of this largish group. Maybe a recent Blue Note with Joel Ross 4. Piano and trumpet or flugelhorn. Piano florid and virtuosic, but later than Art Tatum. Roy Hargrove and Mulgrew Miller? 5. Tablas. First thought was Dave Liebman, but the recording sounds newer than the Liebman ECMs and not particularly ECM at that. Lets go with Charles Lloyd 6. Clarinet. Eddie Daniels? 7. Another familiar tune over a percolating rhythm section with the bass out front, suspect 90s or later recording. Guitar instead of piano, but hard bop nevertheless. I don't know of any Joshua Redman with a trumpet, but cant find a better guess. 8. Charles Tolliver? 9. The question is "Who does that?" and I don't know. As if Kip Hanrahan swore off smouldering sensuality in favor of absurdist humor. Was (Not Was)? 10. Better than Anything. With no real clue, I'll say Roberta Gambarini 11. This harkens back to Basie and/or the Black and Blue label. Eddie Lockjaw Davis? 12. Joe Lovano?
  24. Hopefully NOT! What could be better than an artist keeping us up on their latest recordings. Based on the tracks available for streaming it seems like the new one, on a few tracks, takes some steps in a direction Vijay Iyer and Mike Ladd explored with their three collaborations.
  25. Phil Woods and Richie Cole?
