New Organ Jazz Channel on AccuJazz.com
Jim Alfredson replied to AccuJazz's topic in Jazz Radio & Podcasts
I hope they be playing some organissimo on that channel (hint hint). -
Enough. I am still saddened that couw is no longer posting here (along with others). I don't want to see Chris go. However, I cannot make someone stay who doesn't want to, but a lot of the things said in this thread do not help matters at all. It's a beautiful, sunny day outside. I'm going to go take a walk and enjoy the spring. I suggest y'all do the same. There's a big world out there.

Check out this thread: http://www.organissimo.org/forum/index.php...c=52077&hl= I knew this would happen. Sorry to "punish" everyone for the action of one. I came up with a better solution, outlined in that thread.

What a dickhead thing to do, Chris. Seriously. Nobody has been deleting your posts except you. I just checked the admin/moderator logs (which I can link to if anyone doesn't believe me) and nobody has been deleting your posts or topics. Except you... because you're pissed off at me and think it's funny or something. It's really very hurtful and shows a complete lack of respect for the board and our fellow members. If you want to leave, then just leave. But don't act like an asshole and delete a bunch of your posts and fuck up the entire flow of the board. That's just a total dickhead move, man. Yes, that's why we decided to put a time limit on how long after a post is made one can edit/delete it... because we had an inkling that Chris would do this (ie, start deleting his own posts). But instead, I've restored everyone's ability to edit/delete their own posts and assigned Chris his own category of membership that doesn't allow him to edit or delete any posts at all. I'm really disappointed and hurt.

It is until we can work out a way to only let certain forums have editable posts.

Baby Face Willette's Sound and Registrations
Jim Alfredson replied to Marsalone's topic in Artists & Recordings
Every good Hammond player should know his/her registrations! -
Al, Remind your daughter that she does not have to tell the police anything, especially if she doesn't currently have a lawyer with her. An arrest warrant doesn't mean she'll spend a night in jail. Tell her to stand strong and not to bow to coercion. She has rights.

Baby Face Willette's Sound and Registrations

Single-speed Leslie is part of it. No chorale speed. But the key is the V3 vibrato setting on the B3. -
How Apple will kill satellite radio this summer
Jim Alfredson replied to rostasi's topic in Miscellaneous - Non-Political
Concerning FM broadcasting to your car; unless you live in an extremely rural setting where there is still "free" space on the dial (ie, no radio stations in certain sections), then it won't work. Terrestrial stations emit too much power for the lowly FM transmitter to overcome. Two friends of mine tried to use their iPods this way in cars that didn't have a cassette deck nor an aux input. They bought those Belkin FM transmitters for the iPod and they would never work because there were just too many stations clogging up every available position on the dial. And that's just here in podunk Lansing. As for satellite radio, they basically killed the good programming when the two companies merged anyway. Pandora is the bomb (search for organissimo on there!)! -
Sorry to hear about his and my condolences to you and your family.

Baby Face Willette's Sound and Registrations
Jim Alfredson replied to Marsalone's topic in Artists & Recordings
The key to Babyface's sound is using the V3 vibrato. Every other jazz organist (with the exception of Don Pullen) steers clear of the vibrato settings of the Hammond, preferring to use the chorus instead. The basic Babyface sound is 888000000, V3 vibrato on the top manual, 2nd harmonic percussion, on normal. You can also add some fourth drawbar in there, though that just doubles up the 2nd harmonic percussion (same note). He also used a more traditionally gospel influenced lower manual registration for bass and chords. Something like 848400000 should get you there. As for the grittiness, that's all in the Leslie. Cranked. -
Seems to me it all stems from the psychedelic era as a whole. The jazzers took it one way, the rockers another.

I don't know why it is. Probably need to re-boot the server. -
All this pales in comparison to when Sega released the Dreamcast on 9/9/99.

Yeah yeah yeah, but when are they gonna release Kind Of Blue again?

Ha! The post above is classic. Anyway... I found this thread because I just picked up the remaster of Romantic Warrior in the cut-out bin tonight. I think RTF of this period might be the ELP of fusion. Obviously loads of talent, some catchy licks here and there, lots of technical bravado, but not a whole lot of substance. Still fun to listen to, if only to hear the Polymoog and Yamaha YC-45D combo organ.

Poverty sucks----and I'm sooo tired of it....

If I hadn't met my wife, I'd probably be living with Joe right now. Or my grandparents. It's as simple as that. -
Shed No Tears for the Spartans
Jim Alfredson replied to Lazaro Vega's topic in Miscellaneous - Non-Political
I was not expecting them to win. I was hoping it would be competitive, but they just hit a buzzsaw. Still, great season and many players returning next year. They will be better than ever next year and should go all the way. It was unfair of the press to put the weight of the entire state on their shoulders. It's just basketball. -
Whoa, a lot of stuff happening in this thread that I missed. Michel, the 3300 does lack in bass compared to the mid-sized cabinets like the 122 or 147. That's why I run a powered subwoofer with mine. However, depending on the stage and acoustics, it can be adequate on its own. This past Saturday I played with Root Doctor in Grand Rapids and had the 3300 shoved into a corner, without the subwoofer, and the bass sounded really good. So just like an older tube Leslie, it prefers corners (always had the same effect with my 122). For recording purposes, I have found that mic'ing it like a traditional Leslie but also taking a direct off the subwoofer output sounds really, really good. William, I'm sorry to hear your 3300 arrived broken. How was it shipped? Mine had to be delivered via freight by Keyboard Carriers out of Lexington, KY. I would be surprised if UPS or FedEx actually handles something that big and I would never want them to deliver one to me. I've had way too many bad experiences with those shipping services and big items, the latest of which was a pair of Alesis monitor speakers that arrived at the buyer's house with two pushed in woofers and no sound coming out. Pissed me off to no end considering they left my house, in the box, functioning flawlessly. Hammond Suzuki is good about repairs, so you should be up and running in no time.
