  1. Is he playing bass on the organ? I always thought they had a fender bassist in that band. He takes over the bassline during the organ solo on "Squib Cakes"... it's SUPA-BAD! You gotta check what he's doing with the pedals and left hand. There's a live version of it, too... which is just killin'. Goes on for like 25 minutes and he takes this rippin' organ solo, kickin' bass the whole time.
  2. Check out what he does on "Squib Cakes" on Tower of Power's "Back To Oakland" disc. It's bad.
  3. I know... I'm thinking of emailing them and telling them I'll use it on the next record and give them props if they give me a deal... It would be cool to play with on some funk tunes. Then again, the Chester Thompson left hand/pedal combo technique works as is!
  4. This is kind of interesting: Caribbean Controls BassMon It adds a couple different bass tones to the lower left hand manual, not unlike the old Nova.
  5. That is so messed up. Yuk. We humans can be some sick fuckers, can't we?
  6. No, but I've seen one in pictures painted light blue. I think Rhoda Scott was playing it.
  7. Wow... look at this purdy Peavey... Who'd want to bring that to the gig? Gotta keep that baby at home!
  8. Mike, the Leslie 21H is sounding better than ever! It's waiting...
  9. Finding a competent soundman is like finding someone you want to marry.
  10. Now, another issue is the quality. Remember that the stuff you downloaded are compressed mp3 files, not full .wav files. But if it doesn't bother you, don't worry about it.
  11. You coming to MI, Chris?!
  12. Hmm... the Peavey website lists the Delta Blues at $699. I'm sure Joe didn't pay that for it. I think he was thinking of selling it last year and they were going for around $300-$400 on eBay. It's a great amp.
  13. Hmm... when Joe logs in maybe he'll tell us what he paid for his Peavey Delta Blues... that's a nice amp. He also used a small Peavey combo this summer on a tour. The tour manager had it. I think it had two 10" speakers in it. Sounded really good. Tube. Peavey's solid state amps are bogus, but their tube models compete with anyone, imho.
  14. Got some donations today. Keep 'em coming, folks. This month is all for Eric Kloss. Maybe in May we can do one for someone else (need a month for Organissimo donations to go to the website, dig?) At the end of the month, I'll post the total. Or I can do it weekly. Which is better?
  15. Don't forget the Yamaha electrics. They are really nice and very inexpensive. I don't know much about Randall, but any of the Peavey tube combo amps are very nice.
  16. THE WHOLE THING! That record is a must-have!
  17. Mike, what are you using for a horn driver in your Leslie? That can make a big difference in how the Leslie cuts through in a live situation. My Leslie 122 has had a Peavey 22A driver (8ohm) in it since I got it almost 10 years ago. I just put in one of BT Productions new drivers that are real alnico like the old Jensen V21s but can handle 100watts, so you don't have to worry about blowing them. Man, what a difference!!! I haven't used it live, but that Peavey has always had a really screechy high-end. The BT Productions driver is nice and smooth in the top end and not harsh at all, but still just as bright. I put the Peavey in my 21H, which is where the BT driver was. It actually sounds really good in there, because my 21H is very dull even with the BT in there. I think the crossover needs to be rebuilt. So for the time being, I'm going to keep the Peavey in the 21H and the BT in the 122. I'll see this weekend how the BT does live.
  18. My wife explained to me that when he was Oprah, he told her it was for a movie he's making right now. So I don't think it's real.
  19. I have two old RCAs... one with white lettering and one with red (several with red). I liked the Tung Sol I found better than those two. But thanks!
  20. Well, the B3 does't have all sorts of little tone knobs and volume knobs and prescence and different channels and blah blah blah.... so if my tone sucks due to the room, I just deal with it and play. Or I move the Leslie closer! I will say that Joe and I spent a half hour swapping 12AU7 tubes in the preamp stage of the Leslie yesterday to hear which one sounded best. But that's before the gig, not during.
  21. Yeah baby!! Nice ebony B3 there. I like the blondies, too.
  22. The problem with all this is that if you obsess over it, you become like a guitarist that I play with who stops playing in the middle of every tune and/or solo and starts farting around with his amp because he's not happy with his tone. Shut up and PLAY YOUR GUITAR!!!
  23. I've seen pictures of Shirley Scott playing an ebony B3. That was beautiful! I have a dream for mine... someday it'll come to fruition.
  24. I don't know exactly, but the spinet models cost around $1300. So I assume the big consoles like the B3 were about twice that. The B3 was introduced in 1955. I personally have a thing for the late 50s B3s. So anywhere from 1955 to 1959. Mine is a 1958. I just played a minty mint mint one at the local music store that's a '59. Gorgeous. In the 60s they started to change them subtely. They still sound great, just different. From the ones I have experience with, I can say that the B3s from the 1950s just have more balls and are a little grittier, for lack of a better description.
