  1. Right there with you, bro.
  2. The Sermon (with the extra tracks) was one of my first Jimmy Smith CDs. I damn near wore that thing out. There is so much information packed into those sessions for the up and coming organist, for drummers who want to play with the organ, for guitarists, etc. Great pick! Long live JIMMY SMITH!
  3. Amen to that, brother!
  4. This is the best confirmation we're going to get right now: http://doodlinlounge.com/news.html I emailed Pete about this last night but he didn't email me back. He was probably very busy with his show.
  5. I've always liked the alternate of "O.G.D." better than the one that ended up on the record. I also love "I'll Close My Eyes" off of Organ Grinder Swing... how ballads are meant to be played on the organ. So many... I'm still reeling....
  6. I like them all. He did some pretty funny records with Verve (the ones where he sings are hilarious!) but his organ playing is always top notch. There is something in even the schmaltzy ones that make them worthwhile.
  7. So no reports in the media yet? Doesn't surprise me. He never got his due. He single handedly redefined the instrument and the music, not unlike Bird, but who cares? I'm glad we have a little refuge here to honor him. I was just thinking the other day when reading the Wayne Shorter biography thread that someone should get a hold of Jimmy Smith and start a biography of him. Too late now. RIP Jimmy Smith... the reason why I play the instrument and the music I play.
  8. It looks like it's true... http://www.musicplayer.com/cgi-bin/ultimat...18;t=013061;p=0 RIP Jimmy Smith. I owe you an incredible debt for your gift to the world.
  9. That's the way the world turns, folks. Get used to it.
  10. The source is a reliable voice in jazz promotion in NYC, currently working the new Joey DeFrancesco with Jimmy Smith CD. She wouldn't blow a false alarm. I must say, I'm surprised that it hasn't hit the wires. Her email arrived around 5 PM eastern. I'm not surprised, if it's true, that it has not hit the wires. Jimmy Smith doesn't get any respect for his absolutely enormous contributions not just to jazz but to organ playing, keyboard playing in general, and music as a whole. I hope it's not true.
  11. Has anyone confirmed this?
  12. $$$$
  13. Of course--an electric bass---the horror, run... run.... Electric bass is what Satan plays.
  14. Well, I recognized you but figured that would be stating the obvious.
  15. Y'all are so charming.
  16. People need to chill.
  17. Kinda looks like Horace Silver on the far right, but I know it's not.
  18. Nope. I can't set the number manually. I can only reset it to 0.
  19. I have no idea if there's truth to it, but I don't think I can do that here. Let me check... Besides, if I were to do that, I'd give us something respectable, like 4000!
  20. I saw Harold Mabern play solo in Ann Arbor. It was amazing. His hands are HUGE! He played beautifully!
  21. Karma (or is it car-ma?) will get 'em sooner or later. I never had anyone vandalize my car for no reason. I did have someone jimmy the lock on my '78 Buick Skylark and take my CDs and portable CD player that I stupidly left out in the open. I couldn't even tell they got in... no scratches on the door, no sign of any unlawful entry except my stuff was gone. Oh well... they got a bunch of "worthless" jazz CDs.
  22. Or he's outright lying.
  23. I've been using Nero since before anybody heard of it but it's become kinda mainstream now. It's still a good program but it's not free.
  24. Yes she is... better be on the lookout when she gets older. Do you have a shotgun?
