  1. The response: I still don't understand how I'm displaying the image considering we're just linking to it. The link just happens to show the picture. I'm not hosting the picture. It doesn't reside anywhere on my server. Isn't this the same situation that keeps Peer To Peer networks going? But the copyright owner had a problem with it so I removed it. End of story. As far as the band comment is concerned, I honestly don't care if our music is copied, downloaded, compressed, shared, etc. I don't expect to make a living selling CDs. I expect to make a living playing music, which is what musicians should be doing. People need to realize that the olds days of the printed press and printed media are over. It's a brave new world, baby! And as far as creating a hoopla, isn't that what this board thrives on? As long as my ass doesn't get sued. I don't have time for that...
  2. I'll ask my admin about this and see if he's aware of the problem and if they plan on fixing it. If he can't or won't or doesn't care I don't know what to say. I pay $6 a month for this site and all it's contents which is pretty darn cheap in the land of the internet. I don't think I could afford much more and I'd really rather not charge you guys an access fee! Tell you all what: If we make it big and start making some decent money I'll upgrade to a better host. Ok?
  3. Good to know. The thread could make a return.
  4. Hi everyone. I received the following email today: Here is my response: Here is my reason for deleting this thread: I do not have the time nor the patience to deal with this. All of the images posted in that thread are potential liabilities, although I doubt most of the hosts would have a problem with it unlike Brenda "Don't Link Me!" Braggs. But I'd rather not find out. Just to calm the conspiracy theories, they could've found out about the link by checking their website stats and seeing that they were getting an awful lot of hits on that one picture from some weird ass site named www.organissimo.org/forum since the picture that Sangrey put up was a link, not an attachment. This means that everytime the thread is viewed, that picture is loaded from the Historic Golf website and registers as a hit. Or some lame ass could've tattled. Personally I don't give a shit, but like I said, I don't have the time to deal with this so... let's lay off posting pictures of women and keep discussing jazz which is so underground no one would give a rats ass if we linked to pictures of Lee Morgan or Herbie Hancock, ok? Thanks...
  5. Is this ever a good idea?!? Thank God my wife knows she can't sing jazz and would never ask to be on a record of mine. This I promise!
  6. Well I went to Michigan State with the notion of getting a degree in Electrical Engineering, even though I've been playing music since I can remember and it's all I think about. I thought that I would be pratical and get a degree with a solid job market. My freshman year of college I got into the Glee Club and started singing my ass off, joining three or four more choirs after that. My long-time girlfriend broke up with me that year and sent my grades into the crapper. I started taking more music classes than anything. All this time I was working at the National Superconducting Cyclotron Laboratory as a grunt laborer. I'm actually worried about the health effects of working there for five years. I eventually got promoted from a measly student employee working for $4.15 an hour to a full-time magnet specialist getting $15.00 an hour. It was great except that I worked with some pretty gnarly chemicals that turned my hands orange even though I was wearing gloves. I had to wear a full body suit with respirator for 8 hours a day. Like I said, I've wondered about the effects of the chemicals and the radiation that was around that place (although we did wear radiation monitors and mine was always fine). My wife and I have been trying to have a baby for the last 6 or 7 months and so far no luck. Once we get health insurance (thanks to my wife in about two weeks!) I'm going to get my first full physical and see if I'm shooting blanks! Anyway, the college thing eventually turned into playing in the jazz program and singing in the choirs. I never got a degree even though I was there for 5 years. Good thing I was spending my own money. After that I moved to Ann Arbor and started working in the videography field making corporate videos and commercials and such. I did that for about two years and then moved back to Lansing, decided I was going to be a musician full-time, met my wife, and the rest is history!
  7. Boogaloo and Understanding are both 5 star records, my brothers. There is some deep shit being laid down on those tracks. AMG doesn't give Big John any props.
  8. I don't know if getting our discs to musicians does any good other than maybe getting some praise from them (a quote or two for our promotional materials would be nice, for instance). Musicians are looking out for themselves. They aren't in the business of promoting other musicians. Jazz isn't like rock in that bands have opening bands and such. We need to get our CD in the hands of someone inside the business or at a nice independent label that can take us to the next level.
  9. What's even more odd is the fact that all of Garrison's posts were made in the Musician's forum and he was asking about playing B3 and carried on like he knew everyone. He also hasn't posted since March. Something is fishy here.
  10. That's very nice! We haven't heard from anyone "established" that we've given the CD too (musician-wise) so that's good to know!
  11. Here is good ol' Lansing, Michigan we've had a pretty mild summer as far as temps are concerned. Seems to be plenty of rain. There haven't been many big t-storms, though. I love me a good thunderstorm. I'm hoping we have a nice long indian summer since this summer has flown by so quickly.
  12. For those who claim that "Brown Eyed Girl" is a great song I must assume that you're not musicians. I've played that god damn song so many times that I can't help but loathe it.... as well as Mustang Sally. One of these days I'm going to create a version of Mustang Sally in some fucked up time signature like 9/8 or 19/16 and see if people still dance to it.
  13. Ron, may I suggest that if you truly do not like smilies that you consider using our patented Roboticons instead. :rsmile: :rsly: Welcome.
  14. I like Yaya3 and Elastic, but if I had to choose I'd choose Yaya3. Sam Yahel is way groovy.
  15. Yes, Big Wheel... thank you. Mastiffs. They are frickin' huge! They got a new puppy a couple months after we moved in and I would constantly find it wandering the streets. Complete idiots. I love our new house, although I'm knee-deep in bathroom re-modeling right now. I'm so pissed at the former owners. They let a toilet leak for so long that it rotted out the entire floor including the subfloor. I'm really pissed because the entire house has the original 3/4" hardwood floors in it throughout, including the bathroom. If the stuff wasn't rotted it would've been sweet... but I had to rip it all out.
  16. The house my wife and I rented until last week (we're new homeowners!!! YAY!) was next door to a house that we affectionately called the Crack House. This place had at least three couples living in it (man/woman) and about four kids. They also had two HUGE dogs (can't recall the breed... starts with an "m"), a pitbull, and a mutt. They had a fenced in backyard that we called the Dirt Farm because that's all it was. Dirt and dog poop. Each of the adults had a car, so every night they would park two of them on the lawn. They all drove really nice cars, too, even though the house was falling apart. The roof was ancient, they had birds living in the holes in the siding, etc. Anyway, I came home from a gig up north one day and there was an orange sticker on the front door. And no cars anywhere. So I went up and read it and it said, "Not fit for human occupancy" and I thought, "Damn, they got evicted!" So I told my wife and we laughed and then worried about the small children they had (who were very sweet, but not parented at all... the littlest one would steal shit out of our yard all the time..... she was only 3, so she didn't know any better... but I would consult her father and he'd just shrug his shoulders..." Anyway, my wife was talking to our other neighbor a couple days after that and she laid the whole story out. I was out of town the night this went down and my wife was staying at a girlfriend's house. According to our neighbor, an episode of COPS happened that night. 14 police cars blocked off the street and surrounded the house. Officers in full riot gear with rifles and shotguns and dogs surrounded the house (there were some in our backyard according to the neighbor) and they broke down the door and busted all the people inside. It turns out they had a meth lab in the basement!!!! It really was a crack house!!! The police were carrying out bags of stuff most of the night she said. CRAZY!
  17. Justine, you're more than welcome here! Have fun!
  18. What a joke. So if I go get drunk and hit someone with my car, it's not fault because hey, beer is readily available at gas stations and that's just to be expected, right? Oh wait, they call that drunk driving and hit you hard with jail time, taking away your license and big fines. What's the difference here?
  19. I consulted the diocese and they agreed that four to six CDs plus two Hail Mary's would be adequate.
  20. Hey Rooster, you gonna order within this month? I'm just asking because CDBaby will put the 100 top sellers for the month of August on a compilation disc that will be sent out free with all orders until they run out of the intial pressing of 5,000! Your multi-order will be a big help!
  21. Thanks, everyone. Man, I haven't checked my email since August 1st and over half the messages are "reported posts". Can't we all just get along?
  22. Damn, Mike, that is not cool at all. Stealing another musician's shit? That's rule number one of the musician's code, man. Joe is right... this guy won't get very far with that kind of behavior. Karma is going to catch up with his ass real soon.
  23. They also have a James Brown one. You push a button and he starts singing "I Feel Good" and wiggles around. It's funny for about 10 seconds and then it gets annoying. And the damn thing goes for about 5 minutes!!!!
  24. Thanks, everyone! I think my mother-in-law has a tile cutter, although I don't know if it's the one jacman posted or a wet-saw. I've been reading books and soaking up information. I realize this isn't going to be a one day project. I think we're going to have a lot of fun and work ahead of us but I'm excited at the prospect of finally making the bathroom and kitchen that we want!!!
