  1. http://www.binkie.net/wrdisc/Black%20Market.html Interesting what Zawinul says about the "mirror image" keyboard playing.
  2. All right, so it wasn't so bad. I am just grouchy in the morning. I am NOT a morning person at all. I was there until 11:00am and then the judge came in and said, "Go home." I still have to call tonight and see if I have to go in tomorrow. My biggest gripe is that they say your name is picked at random, but I've been picked for jury duty three out of the last four years. Once I did the same thing as today... sat around for the morning, went home. The second time was the following year and I told them I had already done this the previous year and they said, "Oh, well you're not supposed to be here then." And now this year. I guess it's not so bad. Please excuse my grouchiness.
  3. Oh yeah, that's why I'm up so frickin' early. To get my $7.50 a day doing jury duty. Whoo hoo! I tell you what, musicians should be exempt from this shit. I mean, I'm basically working a night shift as my job. Getting up at 7:30am is not cool. Or maybe I'm just grouchy because it's so early.
  4. We're living in the information age, aren't we? Doesn't surprise me one bit. I'm sure with a little searching you could find a lot more private information about someone.
  5. It's probably because I have the board clock set to recognize Daylight Savings Time. It's a crazy midwestern thing.
  6. I like the alternate takes on Wes Montgomery's organ trio records. They smoke as much as the takes that wound up on the album! It's hard to hear why they chose the ones they did.
  7. I don't remember that, but then again I wasn't even born until 1977! But that sounds like a good idea. Why doesn't the story explain why the games stopped? That seems to be an important missing piece of information.
  8. A lot of those 39 visitors at once were "guests". I remember seeing all those people and thinking, "Man, this is great!" I think it was just a lot of people from the AAJ coming over to look at this board, since there were multiple posts over there in the beginning of the exodus saying, "This place is neat, but check out Organissimo!!!" I still think this software whoops every other board software I've seen so far. Especially considering it's freeware!
  9. BIG BEN Defensive Player of the Year for two years in a row! Way to go! Pistons put the clamp on the Magic tonight, although T Mac still scored 46 points. You gotta respect his game. Imagine if he were playing for the Pistons. They'd be unstoppable!!!!!!
  10. My brother and I are studying to take the CompTIA A+ and Network Certifications. Has anyone on this board taken these tests? We've gotten a couple study guides to help us out. The hardware ascept should be easy... we've been building computers for years. But the test covers all these old DOS concepts that I haven't used since high school! And the networking stuff I only have a small experience with via my home network. Anyway, thoughts... study guide suggestions... test suggestions?
  11. If anyone doesn't have this record, GET IT! It's bad!
  12. This was talked about in this thread: Sangrey.
  13. Just stopped by the Blue Note site to get the scoop on "Got A Good Thing Goin". Check this out.... Now, I'm all for marketing and I have the utmost respect for MMW, but if they tack a sticker on the front of this release saying "NOW ON CD! The record that influenced SOULIVE and MMW!" I'm going to puke. Also, I didn't know Same Cooke wrote "The Shake". I thought it was Sam.
  14. Could the Organissimo Forums be next!?!
  15. YAY FOR US! Thanks to everyone! We're still kickin (regardless of what some might think on those "other" boards...)
  16. You guys rool. By all means, please post your impressions here, good or bad. We love feedback. Thank you!
  17. There are mods available for the PS2 that allow you to play imported games. Do a search on google for "ps2 mods" and you'll find something. The only problem is that they can be a pain to install (ie, taking apart the ps2, soldering, etc.)
  18. Why don't people play the bass clarinet anymore, speaking of Bennie Maupin. That is one of the coolest sounding instruments ever made. Has anyone taken it up recently?

Up. All y'all organ buffs should check this guy out. He's the real deal.
  20. The same thing I think about bad organ sounds in any music. I can spot a fake organ from a mile away. Since we've been together, my wife hears organ in songs all the time. She always says, "I'd never know what that was if it wasn't for you..." and I'll say, "Yeah, but it's fake." "How do you know?" she says? It's pretty obvious to me. Organ sounds have been notoriously hideous for a long time. It's only with the recent releases of clones, both hardware and software, that things are looking up. But they all still wither when compared to the real thing. I have a Roland VK-7 that I can hardly stand to play anymore. The thing sounds like shit. But every now and then I get a person at a gig that says, "Man, that organ sounds great! It must be nice to not haul around a real Hammond!" and I say, "Uh... yeah..."
  21. I'll be spinning Jimmy Smith's Bluesmith tomorrow in memory.
  22. What about a band relying on their organist to run the board? I think everything is safe until we win a Grammy (yeah right). "And the Grammy for the nuttiest organ swidys goes to..."
  23. She had a good run. RIP.
  24. Changed the title for you. And yes, it's a great book. Highly recommended read for musicians.
  25. Can I quote you on that?
