  1. I keep throwing around the idea of buying this for my wife because she'll probably like it. But then I ask myself, "Why would I want to torture myself?" Like Late said, you hear "Come Away With Me" everywhere. That's enough for me. Maybe some day if I see it in the used bin somewhere for $5 I might seriously think about the possibility of maybe reaching for it.
  2. Just a question... is it my duty to nominate the person to choose the AOTW? Dan's choice is next week, but he nominated me, and then switched weeks with me. So do I choose the next person?
  3. Except that the day they call a foul on Jason Kidd is the day Shaq learns to speak French.
  4. Haven't listened to this in a while, but I remember it as being quite good. I believe George Benson is just a guest that popped in that night. I have no idea why they haven't re-released it. Same thing goes for "It's Necessary", a great live date that has Teddy Edwards on it!!! I have Livin' It Up on a Japanese CD reissue. It has some cheesy moments, like the first track... The Theme to Mission Impossible. But hey, with Oliver Nelson arranging, how cheesy can it be, right? And yes, they do keep the tune in 5/4 even in Jimmy's solo. Overall it's a nice addition to his big band output.
  5. Any documentary on the history of jazz that doesn't even mention Jimmy Smith is, in my opinion, not worth the cellophane it was filmed on.
  6. Nobody's going to answer my question?
  7. Yeah, where's Bill been? I've missed him!
  8. Yeah, Joe's dad is way cool. Nicest guy in the world and you get the feeling from talking to him that he could do anything.
  9. My dad is very cool. He and my mom did a tremendous job supporting and raising the seven of us. I have a special bond with my dad because we're both musicians. I think I was a little spoiled because he would bring home cool synths and recording gear and let me play with them! He had a B3 when I was very young and that sound must've been imprinted in my brain even though he sold it when I was 4. My mom passed away in 1997 and it was really rough on the whole family, but especially my dad. I'm happy to say he's found someone new and they seem very happy together! I think it's wonderful. He's always been there for me and my siblings and taught me everything I know about how to be a man.
  10. We don't need no stinkin' BNBB!!!! We got Organissimo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  11. Saw this last night for the first time. I never read the comics. What's the deal with Rogue? She's kind of pointless right now, isn't she? I remember reading something about her character gaining better powers or something. What's the deal? I liked the movie. Very entertaining.
  12. The question remains, however. Have I managed to stump the mighty Alexander?
  13. 288,218!!!! It's getting better all the time.
  14. In middle/high school I was the biggest Genesis fan on the planet I reckon. The Gabriel-era of course, although the early records with Phil Collins in front (before Abacab) are good records. Actually, I don't mind the later stuff either up until the last one without Phil. We Can't Dance was not a prog record, nor was Invisible Touch, so it doesn't matter. Anyway, I tried getting into Yes, but never found them as interesting as the Gabriel-era Genesis. I did like Gentle Giant though. It just seemed to me at the time that every other prog band I listened to were "doing it just to do it" if you know what I mean. Genesis always seemed to be doing it because that's the music they HAD to create together. The records just sound natural, like they were meant to be that way instead of forced. It's weird, I know.
  15. We aim to please here at Organissimo.
  16. I take it this isn't a very popular selection? Was I supposed to pick what I consider an earth-shattering recording? In re-reading the old AOTW threads I found that nobody has picked anything under 30 years old. I just thought I would jump start some conversation on some younger cats. I picked this record up on recommendation from a friend who saw Blanding perform at Michigan State University. He has a full and free tone on the tenor and of course Rodney Whittaker has one of the greatest bass tones. I prefer the original compositions over the standards, although the version of "Jitterbug Waltz" is very hip. The opening number is swingin'! And you can definately hear Shorter in the ballad "My Little Sunflower". Ryan Kisor is a fantastic player. I have a couple of his Criss Cross releases and he writes some very intersting tunes.
  17. Need any help, Soulstation?
  18. Welcome!
  19. You ever hear Pink talk? She's either dumb as a box of hammers or a very good actor.
  20. SACD is still fairly expensive. I'd stick with regular CD if I were you. The format has not been maxed out yet. Having heard the Musical Fideilty Nu-Vista CD player, I can attest to that.
  21. What I would like to know is why oh why won't they re-issue Lonnie Smith's first record? They've put a couple of tracks from it on the recent George Benson "It's Uptown" and "The Cookbook" CDs. Why not re-release the whole thing? I'm super curious whether the all the tracks with fade-outs on the original record actually have endings!!!!
  22. Well after losing Game 2 the Spurs came back in Game 3 and stole one at the Net's homeground. Is anyone else tired of Kenyon Martin's showboating? Win the game first, then start gloating, you dumbass.
  23. That sounds very hip! Let me know when it comes out!
