  1. I'm still not keen on the idea of Brown as the Piston's coach. I'd like to be all but I'm more like Like, B) you know?
  2. J Larsen, Can you copy and paste that article here? I'd love to read it but I'm not registered. Thanks...
  3. It was close in the first half... actually tied at halftime at 42. But in the second half I think the Spurs said to themselves, "Are you kidding me?" and put the hurt on the Nets. I hope they play every game that way and send the Nets home in 4.
  4. I partial to faux sienna.
  5. I love Turning Point. I don't know why this hasn't been re-issued yet. Even before he was "Dr." or wearing the turban, Lonnie Smith is funky as hell.
  6. Yeah, that's some bs for sure. Dig the sig, Big Al. :rsmile:
  7. Glad that you mentioned Johnny Taylor, JSngry. I've been listening to a lot of him the past year. What an incredible voice. Donny Hathaway: What can I say? Those two live records are masterpieces. His band was so bad. His voice is beyond comparison. I agree with Soul Stream. He was so much more than just a soul singer. That's probably why no one has mentioned Stevie Wonder. He transcends all titles. He has one of the greatest voices of all time, in any genre. Ron Isley is a bad mofo too. Otis Redding... good Lord! Marvin Gaye... I was just talking about him with my wife the other day. At the end of "Distant Lover" when he starts pleading and screaming his heart out... I get chills in my back and tears in my eyes every single time I hear that. That is true, from the heart, deep down soul singing there. So many greats. I can't find one modern singer of the "neo soul" school that even begins to compare. For one thing, none of them know how to craft a good song. They come up with four bars of music with a funky beat and that's it. No chorus, no bridge, no verses. Just the same thing over and over. BORING.
  8. If only there was no amplification off stage as well. But seriously, those in-ear monitoring systems are great. The only problem for working musicians like myself is how friggin' expensive they are. We're talking $600 and up per system. So for my five-piece band the total cost to get everyone on the system would be $3000! And then you need a mixer that has enough monitor sends (or aux sends) to support all your performers. It starts to get expensive.
  9. Just finishing up "Our Thing" by Joe Henderson. I'm on a Henderson kick tonight. I've been on a tenor excursion lately anyway. Well, it's just past 3:30am. Time to call it quits.
  10. Is this tour coming to Michigan?! I'd love to see Roy Haynes again. I'm still blown away by his appearance at the Bird that I saw with Joe and our friend Matt Guggemos.
  11. Jazz, so sorry to hear about your condition. I hope your road to recovery is a quick and (relatively speaking) painless one. My sister is a PT and she's been helping me with my back. Hauling that organ around has done wonders for it (I know, Joe... you try to help and I'm a dumbass macho fool). I hardly ever get pain unless I play a lot of nights in a row. I have a little soreness in my hands tonight after playing my fourth gig in three days, but I played a little hard tonight. I played with an extremely loud R&B band and wore my ears and my wrists out. I gotta make sure I have earplugs in my organ bench. There was a great article on Keith Emerson (the keyboardist for Emerson, Lake and Palmer) about 6 or 7 years ago in Keyboard. He had CP so bad the docs said he might not ever play again. But with the right physical therapy, he's playing great. Again, it was a matter of poor technique. I hope you get well, man.
  12. I've been listening to a lot of Stanley Turrentine lately. I still have wrapped discs in the Mosaic I got for Christmas!!!! But I've been listening to his work with Shirley Scott. Right now I'm diggin' Joe Henderson's "Mode for Joe".
  13. This is some wild stuff!!!
  14. Man, it's jumpin! 311,770!!!!
  15. Good luck, Daniel. We'll be here when you return. Of course, you realize you're gonna have to buy 3 months worth of "Album of the Week" CDs!!!!!
  16. I hearby decree that the AOTW for June 8-14th is: Walter Blanding - The Olive Tree (click here to buy) Criss Cross 1186 Featuring ------------ Walter Blanding - Tenor Sax Ryan Kisor - trumpet Farid Barron - piano Rodney Whitaker - bass Rodney Green - drums My first instinct was to pick Shirley Scott's "Queen of the Organ" on Impulse, but it's no longer in print. Then I thought to myself, "We should support some new music... some younger cats on the scene." So... go to your favorite online retailer and buy this puppy and start listening for next week. Will this selection stump the mighty Alexander?
  17. I broke the tie. I went with Silver. As much as I like Sonny Clark, I think Silver really did define the sound. I mean, Song For My Father? Room 608? Serendae For A Soul Sister? Tokyo Blues? Do I need to say more?
  18. Which would be even worse... if not Brown than who!?? Who is left?
  19. Yes, that was a very strange film. Not at all what I was expecting when I first saw it. That first scene that is one big, extended shot, is amazing.
  20. Good article, but even considering all that... LARRY BROWN!??!! All I have to say is:
  21. I have to go with Vertigo. I love Jimmy Stewart and I love the music. Masterpiece!

If that doesn't solve your problem, email me. Q: What are the rules for posting here? A: Organissimo forums fully support free speech although the definition of that speech is defined by the owners and operators of this board. We really have one simple rule concerning what you can and cannot say. Anything deemed as a direct threat towards another member of this board will be deleted. We also will not tolerate links to offensive material. The definition of offensive is to be determined by the board owners. This includes all posts and signatures and avatars. Flame wars will not be tolerated! We rarely ever delete threads, but we do have the power to close them so that no new posts can be added. If a thread degrades to the point that we deem it necessary, we will close it. Also, we do not tolerate multiple memberships or aliases: One account per member is the rule. Anyone found to have multiple accounts will have one or more of those accounts deleted and face possible IP blocking (ie, banning). Q: How do I delete a post I created? A: Simply look for the "delete" button at the upper right of your post (). Q: How do I delete an entire thread that I created? A: Towards the very bottom left of all posts within the thread itself is a pull down menu labeled "Moderation Options". Use the command "Delete thread" within that menu. NOTE: You can only delete threads that you initially created. Q: How do I create an avatar (those cool little pictures underneath my Member name)? A: Please read this thread for details: Creating an Avatar Q: The time settings of the board seem to be off. It says it's 12:00pm, but not in my part of the country. How can I fix this? A: Please read this thread for details: Setting your time zone. Q: The colors of this board are funky. Is there anyway to change them? A: As of the new software version, we lost the skins we had created. Right now, there is only one skin. More will be created soon. Q: How to I change the number of posts displayed per page? A: Click "My Controls" in the upper right corner and then go to "Board Controls" along the left side of the new screen. Down towards the bottom is a line that says "Number of posts to show for each topic page". Change this to something other than the default. Q: Someone has posted something I think the moderators should be aware of. How do I alert the moderator of the post? A: Use the "Report this post" link at the bottom right of the post, next to the up arrow () Q: What the hell are those weird robot smiley things? A: Roboticons (patent pending), a special breed of emoticons created by Organissimo! Use with discretion!!! :rsmile: Thank you and welcome aboard!
  23. It's getting better! 374,962! Woot!
  24. I should mention that before my van I had a '94 Dodge Intrepid that had 176,000 miles on it and ran great when I sold it to get the van. I only sold it because I needed something to haul the Hammond around in. 115,000 isn't that much. I'd get a rebuilt tranny.
